unfortunately vista and xp have got different sound management in LFS.
vista handles all cars as they are... xp handles all cars as players car is, such as edited sound in "shift+a" section.
so the problem is, if you're gonna racing and don't hear the other, in xp you have to keep the standard sounds in the sound settings (Shift+A).
you always have to set up your sound off in the sound "Shift+A" menu. in vista you can save your "off" sound with head, tail, collectors mix set to 0.
great mod!!! thx soulhunta and juls!
i'm using juls mod with -0.35 and set my left monitor a bit left out of center, so my wheel and the wheel in game are one alignment.
best FOV i think is 110° for touring cars and 120°-130° for open wheelers, they get more immersive.
ps: i installed win xp on purpose, now triple-booting vista, linux, xp...
xp is such a lot faster with lfs (ok 10%, but it's worth it...)
ok no chance to run it on vista?? horizontal span isn't supported anymore by nvidia. dunno the real reason, but there are problems implementing it to the drivers?! anyway, what about windowed mode? i can span the window by manually drag it over 2 monitors...
i fiddled around and you only need to set those sounds all (except skids/wind) to off, you do not need to put all sliders to the left. of course those for gear whine, turbo, blow off, shift sound...
main car sound ("wagen" in german) in sound options should be on 20, this affects ALL hearable sounds IN the car so also winds/skids and other cars from outside as well. winds/skids better set from 1.0 to 0.5 (as the "main" car sound has doubled) in the "Shift+A" section or what ever you like more. or you set it globally in the sound options. dunno whats better for each car.
then in the "Shift+A" section you have to put those sounds off everytime you get in car... or you can set the sliders header, collector and tail mix all to 0.00 and save as a new set f.e. FXR_CSR. this sound last used is loaded every next time you choose that car.
now the sounds aren't overlapped anymore, and other car sounds are more recognizable.
have fun
yes you're right lfs just brings the "feelings" to the immersion.. and also right, you know where the limit is. rfactor seems to randomly get spun off the cars... or even i don't know why... just if i did oversee something... no that's not it... in LFS in every lap i know what i did wrong, and that's what i think is reality. sry bad english :P but i KNOW you ppl will understand
ok dumb question: why? to give advantage to manual clutching racers?? i appreciate that, long time no lfs. just tested patch Z upgrading from X! on my laptop right now.. and i noticed it.
hehe cool it has the diablo2 feats in a new seasonable engine. seems they've made it all right! i love those arcade sounds keeped since diablo 1 and it sounds a little bit like GODS on the amiga. i love it.
there is already a thread (and poll) in "offtopic" isn't it? ;-) so this is no lfs discussion. all of that i agree with travbrads post some before here... nothing more to say. both "games" have it's right to exist. FOR SURE!
lfs and rfactor aren't that comparable, because every "game" or better sim got its own positives and negatives... i like lfs for its more responsive handling, i like rfactor for its more moddable cars/tracks/community... but you can't compare that really either...
they are two different sims, i won't say rfactor isn't a sim, and lfs isn't a game... it's quite a tightrope walk...
rfactor is kind of fun with the historx mod, and his tracks are very well created... so the tracks can't conquer with the physics of an engine indeed. so first of all the track "modability" is really great in rfactor.. the handling and realism is not that goog as in lfs. but for the historx mod it's quite as good as GTL/GTR. and now DON'T SAY SIMBIN CAN'T MAKE REAL SIMS!
i don't want to play it on an internal/external monitor on a laptop. i want it to span over the whole width of TWO monitors. i've got 2x 22" TFT with 1680x1050. so the resolution lfs would be running would be 3360x1050 @60Hz. but i can't get that to run (it doesn't show these resolutions in options menu).
neither i have the mobility options in windows, since i'm on a PC and no laptop
