I have the controller bug also....
The problem is getting this patch to recognise your wheel/pedals.

LFS detects them, but I cant assign any axis'

I fixed it by removing my 'sidewinder gamepad' - all axis' are selectable now.

The best way I can describe it.....

When you choose, say - 'steering' and you want to assign it to an axis, you turn the wheel so you know which axis is moving, then click on that axis.
With gamepads plugged in, the axis on the right that would normally move, indicating which axis is being used is static and unselectable.

This is an option that is needed.

I would much prefer in-game filtering options than using vid card drivers.

after reading this thread, nuttyboy, pls dont attempt to update the video drivers yourself, especially since it is not your PC.

If you have a friend that has done this before, please ask them.

The last thing you want is a PC that wont work and you dont know how to fix it.

Trouble is, all the cars are identical mechanically, there are no variables apart from suspension and gearing. If you could tune your engine *lets not start a fight here* it would make more sense, to me at least.

I cant help you with your lag issues....
but if you want to start with a fresh LFS install, you need to backup these folders:

*Settings - contains all your setups
*Skins - All skins for YOUR cars
*SkinsX - Other players skins

I had this same error for the first time ever in LFS yesterday and after reading this thread, I *think* I know why it happened to me. (it may help others also)

Running a P4 3.2
Gigabyte mobo

I went into the bios last night, then hit <ctrl>+F1 to get to hidden menu's.

I changed the 'speed' thing (sorry, at work, cant remember exactly what it was) - basically I could choose on/off - with it on there were 5 settings including... slow, fast, race, flat out.. etc...

I turned it 'on' and chose 'race' .

an hour in, LFS crashed.

I will be changing it back to default when I get home.

Hope this helps someone.

I go to regular trackdays in my own vehicle.

We are instructed to indicate to show the overtaking car which side to overtake...

e.g. i put my LEFT indicator on, they pass on the left.

Since you have run scans and not installed any new programs recently....

Check the fan on your video card, might have stopped working.

How is your PC in other games, are they slow now also? If so, my money is on your video card.

Try downloading LFS again, from a different source, maybe from a website rather than a torrent. Might have been a corrupt download?

You say you re-installed LFS again, but if you did so from the same source/file you originally downloaded, I dare say its the original download causing the problem.

Let us know how you go.

As others have suggested, more than likely a heat issue.

Sound looping could also indicate a dodgy (or dodgy drivers) soundcard. See if you can get newer drivers for it, or.. turn down the hardware acceleration a notch or two and see if that helps?

make sure you dont use too much thermal paste, that could also be the problem...

you need the thinnest layer possible, but at the same time, covering the entire dye/chip.

As i said earlier, i have the same cpu...
the stock cooler is absolute rubbish!

i got an XP-120
it is HUGE and uses a 120mm cooling fan.

Lowered temps (idle and load) by 20degrees.
I have NEVER seen it above 55 degrees after fitting this heatsink/fan combo.

How hot is your processor getting?
I have the exact same one and before I upgraded my heatsink/fan it was running very hot.

Im not sure, but do Intels 'slow down' when they get too hot?
Could be something worth looking into?

grab motherboard monitor and see what your cpu temp is at idle and under load.

does that mobo have onboard video?
if it does, plug your monitor into the connection off your mobo. Then go into the bios, disable onboard video, switch the monitor cable around again and it should work.

the cockpits are fairly low res now....
