There are 872 online, but when I click multiplayer there are not 872 people showing up on the list of servers. Am I missing some servers somehow?

Something that allows you to graph variables such as speed, rpms, braking etc... so you can evaluate selected portions of track. will the tools you mention do that?
Is there a lfs race analyzer anywhere???

Quote from JJ72 :Is this a serious proposition?

yes, give me the ferrari, the brabham, the renault.... I'm not saying I could drive them, but it would be cool to try. For one thing, the driver was pushed way forward. I would like to see what it's like to drive with that viewpoint (very close to the front wheels).

So, yes, make this an official request. Give us ground effects, turbo (unreliable and all) and give us that view!!!!!
Thank you for the BF1. May we now have turbo????

OK, they pulled it off, how I do not know. A real F1 car, and a very good one at that. The only thing I could think that would be better than this would be a 1982-85 turbo f1. Brabham, Renault, Ferrari and company. Give us the cars that Prost, Villeneuve, Rosberg, Piquet and Senna drove. Now that would be almost unbearable don't you think?:revs::eclipsee_
Bf and South City... too fast for track????

When racing against the ai (who are still learning the track), in order for me to keep up, the track passes by too quickly it seems. it seems like I am going too fast to make adjustments, provide input to steering etc.. Is it my FOV or is this track not suited to simulate the Bf car. Are you finding this to be the case or do I need to change something (view, fov etc....)?
Many thanks

Thanks guys. Resources like those mentioned would be a help to many in these forums I suspect...
Reading some of these posts demonstrates that....

...I clearly don't know enough about racing set up, tire wear etc... I suspect many of our friends here don't either. So, to you who do understand all of this, where would you go to begin learning this stuff. I know there are many websites etc... but what would you recommend??? (books, websites, articles etc...) Trying to take it all in at once is too much. So where would you begin?
OK where do I get info on ATC?

As I think about it, it is unfair to gig LFS for ai. It is an online racing sim and is one of the best in that department.

You guys should give a long sp race with pits and all a go though. It is a different experience.

Based on how poor I do online against most of you guys, no wonder I like sp . some of you are outstanding, there's no doubt about it.

Wasn't attacking LFS. I've used it for years and will continue. My post was more of a positive one for the single player experience, not an attack on LFS. Not sure I agree with the money equations in the previous post. Most developers are going to a console model for more $$$.

There is no reason why you can't have both (mp and sp). LFS is an online racer and so it is what it is. And I know for a fact that the ai is being worked on for future updates. I won't mention names but there are other sims which have a strong physics models and have mp/sp possibilities.

But if you haven't tried what I suggested in the first post, you should try it out. It's a fun and challenging experience. (And then you can go back to online racing
Too bad

It's a different topic. Sorry.

I bet you haven't tried a long race under the circumstances I mentioned.

You're right, the ai on LFS isn't there yet so you have to do this on another sim I guess.
Don't sell the Single Player experience short!

I started another thread which evolved into this topic, the single player experience, so I thought it best to start a new thread. I wouldn't sell the single player experience short. Allow me to explain. (I realize that some online clubs enable what I am going to share here, but most of us cannot commit the time to clubs which are required.)

There is nothing like having a great race against another person on a stable platform like LFS. Period. When the racing is close (and the racers are gentlemen) it is arguably the best experience one can have on a racing simulator.

However, there is something the single player experience can provide, which Multiplayer cannot (or does not) currently, and that is long races with fuel usage, tire wear and other mechanical issues to deal with during the race. I have to go to another sim to explain what I mean here, but won't mention its name out of respect for LFS. I raced on an English circuit, 25 laps with tire wear and fuel usage. Based on the settings I had to pit three times. Over time, that is to say, as the laps add up, your concentration begins to break down. This occurs at the same time your tires are going and you need to conserve fuel. It requires concentration and skill (on our level) to achieve consistant lap times and is quite challenging. It is a wonderful racing experience if you haven't done it. One clear result of such an experience is that your appreciation of real drivers sky rockets.

When the race is completed, you have a sense of accomplishment you would not have in shorter races, even if they are against real opponents. Now take the South City course in LFS. This is a great circuit. It would be a great experience to race a 50 lapper on the town course which require pit stops and the works. Rubber would build up on the circuit, which you might use to improve your times etc...

Those who have done this know what I mean. Hot lapping is one thing, short multiplayer is another. Racing many laps against tough ai opponents is unique as well. If you doubt me, try it for yourself. You won't be sorry.:eclipsee_
Best sim but....

So I won't get flamed too much, let me just say that I purchased S1 and then S2 (almost the day it was released). I totally support the small teams made up of guys who love racing for guys (and gals) who love racing. Now if AutoSimSport wants to give S2 the award for sim of the year, then congratulations.

My only complaint at this point is that the ai cars do not pit on their own. And IMHO this removes an important aspect of the sim. I know that it is coming in a future update, but when you consider that other sims do this already, it brings into question the decision.

Racing online is easy as pie with LFS and I've had few technical problems. I have also raced against my son over LAN. But many of us enjoy single player races that have some length to them. Requiring pit stops for tire and fuel changes adds to the experience greatly. If this were something new, I'd say don't gig LFS. But since it has been part of sims for years, it doesn't seem that great a request.

So, that's my opinion. I'm sure many won't agree. But there are some out there who understand what I'm saying and would see this addition as a major improvement.

Yes, I know I can take a pit stop, but what about the ai cars? The idea here is to have competitive sp races which require pit stops. You know, like GTR, GTL and rF! F12002, F1C and on and on.

Is there a SP pit mod out there?

LFS is working on pit stops for ai cars, but is there a mod out there which enables you to have single player races which require pit stops? (It's been a while since I've been here and was just wondering.) Cheers!

Can you train the AI for ovals???

Sorry if this has been covered (I did a search and found nothing). Can you train the AI for ovals? It seems that they can't make it around even if trained.
