Attached is the replay "test.mpr", after about half an hour my team mates realized that my car was no longer visible.
At Qualy-time 33:16 I ("KR-schofei") parked my car and for a test I asked my team mate "KR-Steffen Luther" to hit my car. I had to tell him my car's position for he couldn't see it.
He hit my car but with no damage on his side, whereas my car got damaged.
Happend now the 3rd time after updating my LFS from Standard U -> U20 last week that others don't see my car, same effects as GAS-Hugo described in http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=7059
Dedicated Server (KR Krautracing): Version U
Track: FE1, Cars: XFG, XRG
Players: a mix of U and U20,
some players use InSim Apps e.g. LFS Display
Bug is not depending on the number of players.
My LFS: Version U20, no additions
System: P4 2GHz , 768 MB, XP SP2 + up to date MS patches, DirectX 9c
Online you only get 6 packets/sec, so it's even worse, although there might be some interpolation in between.
Difficult to understand is, that a collision is handled differently, one car gets tossed around just like by titanic forces whereas the other driver very often not even realizes that his car was hit (and in fact, his F10 doesn't show any damage).
Yes absolutely, those who are complaning about too few cars and too few tracks don't really want to spend money for software, they always want to get anything for free.
In my opinion restricting the demo would be an improvement as the demo is far too complete, 1 car 1 track and/or limited online racing time should be sufficient to get convinced. However, the devs are rather generous, so that many demo racers stick with the demo for years instead of buying a license.
Driving the BWM Sauber F!.06 within todays most realistic sim will be a very exciting experience, no question, although personally I would prefer to have a BMW M3 GTR in LFS.
Now with the BWM Sauber F1.06 LFS rounds up the whole bandwidth, from 55hp Mini to 700+hp F1 cars, which also demonstrates the outstanding LFS physics being capable to handle them all. This is one of LFS's strengths, so people can pick up various types of cars depending upon their preferences.
To me this April thing isn't just a simple patch, it's a major update and will mark a milestone within the whole LFS development process, especially since major global players are now involved. Although we don't know the details about the partnership with BMW and/or Intel, everything seems to be possible now. Real race tracks as requested by many people are no longer out of reach, this has become more a less a matter or manpower, so sooner or later (guess even sooner) the devs will have to enhance their development team.
I bought GPL at that time only for the Nürburgring was included. Took a while until I got down to 8:16 in the Lotus. However, I lost interest in GPL when I had to realize that other racers started cheating by replacing the Lotus engine with the more powerful Honda engine.
Yes, the Ring is not for beginners, neither in a sim nor IRL. Years ago when I was living near Cologne, I went to the Ring quite often to watch the races or just to do some laps of my own in various BMWs. And I can tell you, no words can describe the feeling.
"Nothing gave me more satisfaction than to win at the Nürburgring, and yet, I was always afraid. When I left home for the German Grand Prix I always used to pause at the end of the driveway and take a long look back. I was never sure I'd come home again."
Jacky Stewart
Jacky Stewart was it who gave the Nürburgring Nordschleife the nickname "The Green Hell".... nothing to add.
Easter is the most important religious holiday of the Christian liturgical year, so most people don‘t have to work on Easter Day. It is sunday anyway. Should we really expect the devs to work rather than celebrating Easter?
The Blackwood Guru is a wise man. Unfortunately people usually don‘t understand what wise men say, the Blackwood Guru is no difference.
The old blackwood forest guru once said...
"better waste a minute in life [by pressing F5 and waiting for the release of the patch], than life in a minute"
"but who [really] needs a minute [of driving] in blackwood [on Easter Day at all]?" [ -> nobody !]
Unfortunately the Guru is a Blackwood Guru only, so he did not talk about other tracks besides blackwood. Otherwise his words probably would have been clearer.
So the message is:
There are more important things in life than a patch/update for an already excellent product.
