Did you ever drive a real car in order to say that there will be no more realism ? First of all, a human has almost 180 FOV. If you wear glasses, it's your problem. Second of all, there are a lot of guys who play on 3 monitors. I can't afford that. Maybe I want to see on one monitor what other see on 3.
I get much better positioning in a real car then in LFS, because on one monitor I can't really see what's happening around me.

In my opinion, 3 monitors are not enough for a driving sim, and some additional camera could help the players with a low budget, but still won't solve the problem.

Quote from blackbird04217 :I guess its because as it is I use the subtle motion to detect a car on my side, and I look once to the left, briefly, and know where he is. It's not too hard to give each other space once you know there is a car on your left, make sure there is room for a car on the left. The other driver needs to have the skills to know there is a car on his right and that he should leave room on the right.

A little practice goes a long ways.

Yea, guys like you always crash into me on with FOX on KY Nat on the straight. You just look briefly, very cool. Look into my ass, please.
Additional cameras - split screen

There is a problem with positioning on the track, especially when you have only one monitor. We often bump in each other because of the limited possibility of viewing the other players actions.
Check this out:

Split the screen! Some zones are really useless... Who wants to look at the dashboard when he's hitting the walls because he keeps bumping in other players?
It could even get better if the players could personally adjust the the position and the size of the additional cameras. Maybe he wants to sacrifice half his screen for other cameras.

I also added a way to implement the lateral mirrors (there clearly is a problem with them, there already are posts about this). If we get virtual lateral mirrors on the edges of the screen, we don't kill the system, and this way they will also be easier to implement.
*I saw that you want to add "broken mirrors" for improved realism. You could blank the virtual mirrors corresponding to the real mirrors that were broken.

*I know that we have buttons that can help us look right/left ... But I don't think it's enough. When you look right/left, you don't see what's in front of you and most of the situations where you have to look around are in turns. In a turn, I personally need to look at the track. Maybe you are pros and you can do it blind-folded, but I can't.

I want to discuss with you guys a issue that I am having as I break into a corner. I am using 3 pedals and H-shifter. I will present the techniques I tried with their pros and cons (as resulting from my LFS XP).

Technique 1: Downshifting using only clutch and break.
On small cars (XRT, RB4, XFG etc), I find it easy to downshift through all the gears (5-4-3-2) using the clutch, without Heel&Toe. I can lift the clutch smoothly in order to prevent oversteer on rwd cars. This technique works best for me on these cars.
On FZR, I can't go through all the gears (I'm not a ninja) and I jump some of them. I go from 6 to 4 to 2. If I lift the clutch smoothly, the back doesn't break loose and I manage to steer without problems, but after a few laps the clutch overheats and I lose my acceleration.
If I lift the clutch fast, the back end may slip, especially when I downshift from 4 to 2, but the clutch doesn't overheat. I saw some guys downshift on FZR through all gears (6-5-4-3-2), but I can't be that ninja ... not on a H-shifter, maybe on button-shifting.

Technique 2: Heel&Toe
Heel&Toe really works ok on all cars, but I think I am the problem with this one . Now matter how much practice I get, I still make mistakes frequently, like bliping the gas AFTER I lift the clutch (funny, I know). Often I just rush the pedals and end up spinning around.

ATM I just downshift without Heel&Toe. I lift the clutch smoothly and this gives me a great feel on the car, but the problem is that on some cars (especially GTR), the clutch dies after a few laps.

This also make me wonder about engine-break on cars IRL. Can I damage the engine/drivetrain if I downshift without heel&toe ? I am talking about city cars, like VW Jetta, Opel Astra, Renault and such.

The numbers might be good, but sometimes I have the sensation the feeling is just not right. Cars in LFS respond to slowly to direction change and you slide too much if you slam the breaks.
It might be me, don't know... I didn't make a study on this.

Quote from Woyta :In some siuations (after accident, etc) you need downshift lot of gears (from 6 to 1 or R)

If you have a accident when you are in 6th gear (over 200kmph), you don't need to get back to first gear, you need to get back to the pits in the Shift+P way.

Can't you just push the clutch ? Instant neutral transmission...
Get a button for clutch if you don't afford a clutch pedal.

So I have to get Airio if I want to activate that option on my local server.
Well, it's something, but you know me ... I want it all. This should be implemented in the game, not in a addon, and servers that have this activated should have a flag.

Wow, that was a stupid question. I didn't want to ask that. Sorry for the ... typo ... I think it was a typo ... a big one.
What I really wanted to ask is: "How does weight balance affect the feel on the car?"

Quote from logitekg25 :the space between the pedals is too small, but i might make a spacer mod myself...yes i know it is a waste of a liscense to not race online...my parents wont let me get a new computer (which is nescesary to go online)

what's the problem with going online from your PC ? if the game works fine in SP, it should be the same in MP.

I found this game on google too . I was searching for a good drifting game. I bought a G25 as soon as I could (LFS made me buy it)!

A easy way to learn it: drive a sequential/automatic car and break only with your left foot.
I don't have space for a cockpit. (btw, this smiley should be red, not blue...)

Quote from halo :@gxgung; "Why should you play against people who take the game seriously ? You can play with people who take it JUST as a game." interesting comment. Do you believe this really? If so, seriousness is kind a sickness, disorder or something like that?
I wonder when ppl realize that this is just another game, a good one. You could have enough money to get yourself a superb rig with frex wheel mounted etc, but this is shows one thing for sure; that you can afford it, that is it. Beyond that point no one can say that if somebody have not got a decent controller than he/she don't taking it serious. How possibly one can know that?

Its like saying that if you don't have a Ferrari or Porsche than you don't take the driving activity serious enough.

Server side option for the clutchers is not a problem for me, ppl can do what ever they want without disturbing others.

A guy we all know said the same thing earlier. He said that a G25 is much too expensive and that he can't afford that. After some threads he told us that he is going to buy a iPod that is actually more expensive then a G25.
I don't have a iPod. This is my phone: http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_1200-1976.php
I bought my phone with a offer from a local phone company and i paid only 1 euro for it. I was saving money for my G25.

So, as far as a I see, I have the same financial state as the guy we were speaking about, but I take the game seriously and he doesn't.

This is the "perfect" way to do it. Left-foot-break to Heel&Toe and back to left-foot-break. Problem is, it's so hard that you might lose grip while doing it and that would make you slower, not faster. The way your pedals are positioned is very important. It's easier for me use this technique on my car IRL, because of the position of the pedals. The stock position of the G25 pedals makes it very hard to use Heel&Toe because the break and the acceleration pedals are on the same level, and it's hard to switch from Left-Foot-Break to Heel&Toe because of the tight space. Some people modified the pedals in order to make Heel&Toe easier and I will do this to. I ordered some pads and they should arrive next week.

http://www.h-engineering.nl/g25pad_optionsbig.png
I am aiming for Heel&Toe #2. This is how my real-life car has the pedals and I have enough space to break with my left foot and switch to Heel&Toe and I can Heel&Toe without twisting my entire foot (and thus without having any pains as a secondary effect).

My advice (conclusion): Try to modify your G25 pedals and start using heel&toe and left-foot-break.
This guy explains the advantages of the 2 techniques:

Quote from Uke :Not everyone have money for all that stuff... I take LFS as an simulator, but i still have only dfgt BECOUSE i don't have enought money for g25, or some cool extra hyber shifter...

The point is that everyone in this game doesn't have money to buy a wheel that haves clutch pedal, they all cost over 200€

Dude, you are talking about a issue that doesn't exist. If you don't have the money to buy a clutch you can join a normal server and play there. Why should you play against people who take the game seriously ? You can play with people who take it JUST as a game.
Stop acting like this is such a problem ... you just have to click on another server in your server list.

I read and took time to understand every line in this guide. It helped a lot.
This guide doesn't only help a LFS player adjust he's setup, it helps any man understand a lot about race-car tuning. I advice all the new-comers to read this.
And yeah, it should be a sticky.

You guys had a great ideea. LFS Servers could have different modes, like "Noob-zone", "Hardocre", "Nightmare". Giving the mods names and impelmenting this in the server list could give the players a lot of choise. You can join a light server and use auto-clutch and no force-feedback, or join a Nightmare server and use all the options that make driving realistic but hard.
Btw, some dope names could also bring people into LFS, so this would be great for everyone (even the producers).

I really hope the game artists get to see this and it doesn't get eclipsed by the post-flood on this topic.

Some of the dudes here are really dumb, arguing about nothing, because anyway they will have cars with sequential gear box and they don't need a clutch for thoes ... so if there would be a GTR race, only the FZR racers would be forced to use a clutch.
I bet that they never even thought about dissabling that "Auto-Clutch", not even once ... but they keep talking about it, though ... This is a request for all the scared no-clutch players: Dissable the option and try to drive a car with a sequential gear box. You'll notice that everything is the same.
The "No Auto-Clutch" option doesn't have as much DPS (Damager per seccond) as it seems. It would just give the players a chance to play with who they want to play, not all together like a bunch of drunk football players.

Quote from XCNuse :Also, your comment about heel toe going up a ramp doesn't make sense, why would you be downshifting going up a ramp and have to blip your throttle to keep the car steady?

How can you downshift when you aren't moving ? )
Dude, do you even have a driving licence ? If you do, did you buy it ? Or did you steal it?
