"Ive noticed a few posts either about LFS dieing or about the NEW patch well i upgraded to S2 not to bad but now wish Id spent the $$ on something else. Due to having a pisspoor DSL connection and they wont fix it or upgrade my lines out here in the boonies but o well..This seams to keep me from racing full league races or joining in a full race this sucks i found a car i like and a cpl tracks i was getting used to now i cant even race BUMMER!! "
Alright, then, you go to the gas station and put in a few gallons of gas. That's 8 bucks. Then you roll over to the grocery store, get yourself some fruit and six-pack of Bud Lite Lime. That's 10 bucks.
Total, on the conservative side, is 20 bucks. That's about as much as you paid for a S2 license. And unless I'm some sort of wizzard who has preternatural skills, you probably didn't go all that.
So you're even. Why feel the need to complain?
Is it so that we all could correct your odd grammar and ramblings?
I think you're misguided here. Maybe it's because you are unAmerican, eh?
I am American and do not support iRacing. It's an alternative and I've tried it but didn't really care for how rigidly it's run.
So I think you're generalizations about Americans, at least on this particular point, is a bit wrongheaded (along with your usage-- grammatically speaking).
But consider that most people are accustomed to having things instantly. They watch TV ten hours a day, and American Idol is their favorite program. I think you can see that the way LFS has been developed goes against the grain.
I must be stupid or I'm missing something-- or maybe both.
I have a G25 and am running under XP. I've set up my controls, with a manual clutch and all the rest.
Now when I go to drive a XF GTR, say, everything works splendidly.
But when I try say maybe the XR GTR or the Formula XR, it seems like my shifter or something doesn't work. I press the clutch, put it in gear (I don't think it goes into gear) and accelerate. But it's like I'm in neutral.
Then I go back to the XF GTR, say, and things work as they should.
So some of the cars work fine and others I can't seem to get my G25 to work.
Am I supposed to be doing something to get things going with some of these cars-- the engines are running and all.
I've been out of the loop for a bit, so I thought something new was added.
Question. How do I load an autocross. I put the files in the /layout directory, pressed shift-u, but got nothing. I had the right track selected and went through all its variations.
Are they separate? I at first thought they were. But when my account wasn't billed and it didn't look like a thing was beging downloaded, I enabled the 512 helmet option.
It was only then that my account was billed the one pound and the skins were being downloaded.
As for the number going on your account page each time you get a skin, I'm not sure this happens. I'm still at "1". I know I've gotten more than one skin so far.
This whole skin thing is pretty unclear. I read what the patch notes said and it still is unclear.
I agree that the developers should write up an FAQ on the skins and make it a sticky.
Okay, now. I went and dumped in 3 pounds to my account. Then I went and enabled the option for 1024 skins use, and got a message about how you need money in your account to activate, etc.
What do I do after that? I just went and tried online and then single player, returning to my web account details to see if I had one less pound.
But I'm still at 3 pounds.
How do I go about getting or using these high-resoltuion skins?
As to Kunos and NKP, you can go on believing what you want. Everything he promised he reneged on. The next thing you'll get from NKP is a new version with a new cost.
All I was doing was commenting on polls, and we all know they are stupid.
I think you might be projecting your world onto mine, but I can't be sure. I've posted positively many times on many subjects. If you think I'm going to post something positive about something that doesn't deserve a positive post, then you've misjudged me.
Polls are dumb, and Kunos is one of the most disingenous game-makers that I've ever seen. Should I just be silent on these things or say how I feel?
No, I didn't actually say this. I can see that reading what people are about is not one of your strengths. It must be that everyone who uses satire or irony (in a satirical way) is smug and self-satisfied.
A poll on polls about polls on polls about polls on polls.
And so it goes:
What car do you like the most?
What version are you using?
Would you pay to enter a race?
Are you paying for hi-res skins?
Do you like oval?
What's your fav combo? (too much television for this author)
Would you like to see three-wheelers in LFS?
Training, do you bother?
So what happened when you unlocked S2?
Does someone look like someone else?
Do your feet get dressed to go racing too?
Track guides: worth spending time on?
Oval or road course?
Which view do YOU race with (as if the "you" needed some special emphasis)
There you have a listing of the last polls. Very thought-provoking.
LFS is a nice simulator, but these forums... there's not much here, unless one goes to the technical assistance forum.
I got it to work. I needed to change the IP in the config file to my LAN IP. No one mentioned that and it wasn't in the readme; but that's what the problem turned out to be.
When I try and start LFS Lapper the window just closes. The debug option doesn't appear to work but I notice in the window-- when it opens and closes-- that the error I'm getting is about the pb.txt and DriftPB.txt not being found.
The program does not create these files. I used a text editor and created the two files, with nothing in them.
How EXACTLY do I point to these files, in the *.cfg file.
Currently I have this for one of these text files,
DriftDatatbase = LFSLapper/bin/DriftPB.txt
I've tried it also using the drive designation, since I have the main program in the root, "D" directory.
It would like like this,
DriftDatabase = D:\LFSLapper/bin/DrfitPB.txt
Neither way works. I still get the error message. I have the main executable pointing to the *.cfg file.
How EXACTLY do I indicate this path to the *.txt files, is what I want to know.
There are at least six or so very good mods, and they dominate online play. You can't beat variety.
I think you exaggerate when you say "10" versions of F1. There are two, I believe. One is pretty decent, and the other I haven't tried.
Actually, the numbers online are pretty similar between LFS and rFactor. If you run version 1.070 and have the proper mod installed, you're in good shape. The PCC mod is very good.
I think you're crazy on this one, if graphics are what you look for in a racer.
I have LFS S2 and rFactor and enjoy both of them. I do play rFactor a lot more. But I'll agree, that if you want quick online competition, LFS is the way to go, simply because LFS is less fragmented. But to say that rFactor is a single-player only simulator (as someone here has said) is absurd.
Seeing that this is an LFS forum, it's natural that most would prefer LFS. Ask the same question over at the rFactor forum, and you'll get opposite responses.
In all, any such questions comparing racing simulators is a waste of time. You like what you like and go from there. If you like LFS, you bash rFactor; if you like rFactor, you bash LFS. If you like NetKar Pro, you bash rFactor and LFS; if you like flight simulators, you bash all racers. It's endless, and a waste of time.
But since I've already wasted everyone's time, I rank the top three current racing simulators as such:
rFactor
LFS
NetKar Pro (simply because it is unfinished and very limited-- best physics engine of them all)
This is an absurd justification for not wanting tools for LFS to be released. Eventually, if LFS hits the wall and there is no expansion after S3, the game will die out.
If tools are released allowing new cars and tracks, the game continues to live way beyond the lifespan if no tools are released.
So you're choice is-- let the game die or allow it to grow, albiet in a somewhat fragmented way.
You're deciding the former.
Even if fragmentation occurs, sooner or later some sort of order will be created out of this initial disorder. Take a look at GPL as an example. And even with rFactor, still in its infancy, order is slowly beginning to take shape.
The problem with rFactor, as I see it, is that a good many modders do not test their releases enough, which results in fix upon fix, which creates mismatches and fragmentation. This problem will evenutally fade, as the want-to-be modders fade away and the real talented modders take over.
This is a long process, and those suffering from ADHD might not see this as an eventual outcome or care to wait until it happens. But it will happen, within time.
The same would happen with LFS, though it will be less painful than rFactor, since with LFS modders will be working with a finished product, unlike what is happening with rFactor.
Myself, I'd be elated if LFS released the necessary tools tomorrow. I don't think it spells doomsday if they were to release the tools, as you seem to think.
Not releasing the tools would be the end, however. That is a certainty.
This is not entirely correct. Might be better to say that we've had this discussion hundreds of times before. Those who drive wrecklessly online will never change: no use wasting bandwidth.
