unfortuatly for biggie, he's never spanked my wonderful ass! People pay for that. I made that as i was talking about this post and LFS with some ppl on IRC, and it was like talking to a wall, so i drove LFS into a wall and made the video, as i had been making some tiny videos to show some things in lfs already.

Just showing how 'easy' the car rides them.

And some fun oversteer in the F1 car.

Quote from --==Gogo==-- :Why is it always the guys with the fewest miles driven that cry for more content??

I don't get it.

its not really about 'more' content, its about higher quality content. I haven't driven LFS online in a while, and its basically because of the things i have said here and the fact that most online servers blow major ass far as quaility goes, all the decent races are on private servers which i barely know. But LFSWorld only counts online play, so i don't know how you know how many miles i've actually driven.

Quote from axus :I can't really understand your lack of development point though. LFS is developing quite quickly considering the size of the dev team. The fact that Eric's latest work doesn't appear in any of the compatible patches is surely part of the reason for what you think. Another would be the fact that Scawen has mostly worked on polishing off things insignificant to the overall experience in the past year - I see it as preparation for a massive physics push though.

Just look at the news page, i'm not saying i want updates every day or demanding too much but LFS has really not developed as fast as i maybe felt it could of, atleast since i've owned S2. Yes this is because of the small team and the maybe lack of wanting to exspand or money i'm not sure has had alot of influence on this.

LFS still pretty much has had the same quality car models/tracks/textures since it was released bar a few updates/improvements, now alot of time has passed since then and even when lfs was first released the content was below standard so now 4/5 years on its really missing that quality edge that is seen in other products.

IF LFS saw improvement in this area, for example a proper well designed and made race track, and a well designed car both inside and out i believe LFS would be more accepted as a racing simulation, as so much of this affects how much people believe in something.

Everything what u write is absolutely annoying!
U are right by the children-games. It is better u leave LFS i guess.

annoying because? its better if you just give some proper feedback instead of 'oh my god you don't like lfs you must prefer kiddy games'

Quote from jtr99 :Hi, Richard.

You make some logical, if tough, points in your posts. I see what you're saying: just because LFS is possibly the best of a bad bunch, that doesn't mean it's flawless. But I'm curious about which driving sims you currently enjoy putting in time with. For me it's LFS. Do you have a current favourite driving sim or are you avoiding playing any of them while waiting for a better one to be written?

Cheers.

I currently drive nr2003 mostly on a league basis, although i'm currently on a break from the league stuff. But l'll pretty much drive anything, i have rfactor installed and i give just about every single mod a try just to see what its like, but good driveable mods are few and far between.

But i'm waiting on anything new, iracing is one of the major hopes for the future of sim racing in my view as not only do they seem driven to achieve and take sim racing to that next step, they also have the backing to do it.

LFS to me is prob the most frustrating simulation on the market, its clear it can achieve something but there doesn't seem any drive behind that from the developers.

LFS has no indentiy, its just a 'driving game', and within the driving game there is no indentiy as to what anything is, which isn't helped by the fact the tracks really don't fit within what i would call a realistic racing simulation and fit more along the lines of what i would expect in driving a shareware racing game. Sure a real track would be nice, but even something that resembles a professional real track would be nice and not just a few corners ripped from suzuka/spa that are copied in a poor fasion.

I'm still confused to this day why LFS hasn't achieved more, its still in its own little corner because of the above. Which is more puzzling considering that there are a bunch of idiots in the RF community developing professional mods based on real series from just showing that they can insert a model into rf and call it a game.

My final point will be the physics, yes live for speed has some really nice additions imo there is still a ton of work to model each specific type of racing series, the GTR cars and F1 car for example are not really authentic in my view and are just making the best of the what the engine has to offer without really going after modeling what they actually are.

The main problem i have with the physics in genera thoughl is the way the car is too easy to save when you go over the physical limit, which results in insane drifting which personally i never saw from some of the cars that it does happen to. Also, alot of the really fast setups drive like shit, i've been shocked at times when friends have sent me sets that they have done really good times with just how bad they actually do drive.

Thats all for now!

poor old grumpy vykos, like an old man that is drying that picked the wrong religion!

but seriously, it has nothing to do with envy, i do own LFS afterall Just because LFS is better in areas than rfactor, which is an awful product, doesn't mean LFS great. You can sit here all day and jack off at the fact that the breakfast you eat was better than the shit you had when you woke up but th at doesn't mean your breakfast was all that good

why does the lfs community feel the need every day to tell itsself that LFS is the best simulation, i sense alot of insecurity here. I think the LFS community is prob the one large community that needs to get over itself, and look at why LFS actually isn't that great of a sim and try to move it forward, as lfs hasn't had a decent update in a year almost now, and even before that it was barely updated.

Quote from TagForce :So, you're saying that when LFS is done with all the graphics, physics updates, and sounds in the way the Devs keep saying it's going to be done, it will be the most popular sim in the interwebz?

I can't wait for S3 now

Merry Christmas to all of you.

no I'm not saying that, LFS might never be a great racing simulation (in the view that i have). S2 isn't even out yet so I cannot imagine how far S3 is in the future. Since the early days LFS really hasn't change much, at all, don't take that the wrong way. I mean as a product and from a design point of view its still basically the same as it was when i first saw it many years ago.

I kinda meant more the content side with Blimey, the models, the tracks, the textures etc. Sure they change values in the physics for GTR2 in teh way you said, but thats just because thats what they have as a base to do so. If they had LFS they'd do it in the LFS way and I think produce something great.

Quote from Hyperactive :Maybe you could give me your opinion on this? Why the GTR2s, GTLs and rfactors are seen better? Just because (I ask nicely) I can't figure it out by my own

Because GTR2, GTL, Rfactor (talking mods here, rfactor is a terrible product) immerse the player in a much more realistic way than LFS can. LFS has some of the most detailed physics in any racing sim, and that is teh only strong point of LFS compared to other sims. But even this is ruined by some of the physics that are not done yet and make the handling, in some cars, dam right awful.

But basically the content in LFS is terrible, the tracks, the cars, the way it just feels is from the last century. I'm sure if someone like Blimey games got hold of lfs, in a slightly more completed state and made a full blown product on it. It would probally be one of the best simulations out there.

I personally just don't have much fun driving LFS, as I said its content is bad and that goes deeping than just 'oh it doesn't have realistic cars', it doesn't have good sounds, it doesn't have a good cockpit, and the tracks are poorly designed.

But the LFS community has kind of distanced itsself from the rest of the sim racing community, most of its followers are pretty arrogant in the sense they just dismiss anything else on the market and use the same 'oh but lfs has good physics it doesn't need anything else' line.

If LFS was that good, it would be the most popular racing sim ever, but its not. Thats not to say other sims are great either, I know that most people in sim racing are just 'waiting' for the next game to come out, maybe thats a future version of LFS, maybe its iracing, maybe its something completly new.

Quote from TagForce :I'm way out of line for saying this, so please take it for what it is... A comment made in jest...

But... Could my assumption of 'aliens' have anything to do with it? They don't race LFS as it doesn't allow them to be 'aliens' because of the vastly superior physics?

Then again, for Team Redline (not to be confused with LFS's Redline Racing) it might just be pressure from their Sponsor (BRD, for those that don't know). They need a bigger audience, so they stay away from the really small communities like LFS.

EDIT: I know for a fact that Greger does in fact have an S2 license, and has done some racing in LFS.

no, couldn't be any further from the truth. The simple truth is, LFS just isn't good enough for many people, including myself to be able to get into and complete seriously with it. My reasons for this have already been discussed in rather huge detail about a year ago, and not much has changed since unfortuatly.

I think your racing view is slightly warped

Quote from TagForce :Where did I say it was cheating? Chill, m8.
It is just a fact that in games (LFS included, although atm to a lesser extend) that simulate real cars, it's the bugs in the physics system that make people ultra-fast. Sure there'll be faster and slower drivers, just as there are in real world racing. I never denied that. Just that the playing field will be more level.

no fast drivers are fast drivers, the 'bugs' do not make them fast
RichardTowler

Quote from TagForce :Yes, that is precisely what they're doing. It used to be that way in LFS, with totally unrealistic setups and stuff. It's better now, and guess what... They're not impossibly fast anymore.

The point is, you should not push the SIM to its limits, you should push the CAR to its limits... Pushing the sim to its limits means you're cheating real life physics, which was my point.

If you want to see a great example of a realistic sim with physics holes the size of manhattan, check out RBR.

I still don't see what the hell that has to do with 'aliens' pushing the sim to its limits is pushing the car to its limits, this is what seperates the really fast drivers from the average drivers. I really doubt most top racing teams and drivers, both real and virtual are where they are by just standard thinking.

Personally I don't like running with some of teh really bad stuff on LFS setups as it really ruins the handling, but I don't hold that against people and I certainly don't think its cheating.

Quote from TagForce :LFS, without a doubt.

Although GPL was teh bestest when it came out, it's physics are still among the best ones around, but it is dated. Low Speed grip is way below par, and the sliding that can be done with it is unrealistic. Proof of that is in the difference in fastest laps between mere mortals and "teh aliens".

IMO, in a sim that has ultrarealistic physics without anything that makes it any different from reality, the 'aliens' would not exist. There'd be slow and fast drivers, but they'd all be going for the same limit, the limit of the car. As it is now, limits in the physics engine get exploited by the aliens. LFS doesn't have real 'aliens', just guys that are faster than others. If you compared the average driver's times to the Pre-April-patch physics to the post-april-patch physics, you'll notice that the slower ones are actually closer to world record times, because the physics behave more like real world.

Also, physics is the 'only' thing I want in a sim.

so aliens are people that exploit the physics and thats the only reason they are fast? uh no. The term alien was just used when someone was faster than expected and people had to make a silly name for it.

They are always just fast and slow drivers, the faster drivers are usually people that just push the sim to its limits, not only from a driving point of view, but setup point of view. And thats the simple reason why some people are faster than others.

The 'oh they are only faster because they drive unrealistic' is just an excuse by slower drivers who cannot handle the fact they are actually slower than other people and need a reason to validate to themself why they are slower which doesn't have to do with driving.

But on the subject at hand, GPL is really basic now compared to modern standards and I think comparing the two is alittle unfair, GPL has a certain status for 2 reasons. It was ground breaking at the time, and most important its based on 1967 F1 so it hast he cool factor.

Quote from ATC Quicksilver :Well to start with you need to be a loner without much of a social life. Then you need to do about 2million laps on your chosen combination, next is to find all the possible cheats/shortcuts/exploits you can to gain that extra 10th.

If all else fails, you can just settle for being able to overtaking and have track awareness...then set the races to reverse grid and see the hotlapper crash in T1 while you overtake 22 cars and win.

and there goes the common, someone is fast on a single lap they can't race, spend too much time playing the game, cheating, etc comment, its totally untrue 90% of the time, most people who are fast on single laps are just fast racers too, but I guess it makes you feel better by saying they are not

well thats why they are LFS fans huh its actually hard to find people around here that have an 'open' mind when it comes to racing sims, but anyways, I'am only comparing to RH2005 mod, which is the only f1 I like in f1c, the rest of the stuff I have tried including default really does suck major donkey ass. RH is the only one to that get balance right, its not perfect but its good for an ISI based thing, and usually I'am the first person to complain about that floaty crap in isi stuff

My view of lfs is well known so I won't go into it again, but what I will say is, I can see how close it appears to be, but it missing that factor which will make me jump across and play it constantly, its just lacking something, its hard to pin point where it is, but its not there what ever it is compared to other sims I play, and i play alot of them..

Quote from axus :I quite like the effects of the patch - its still LFS but its better in terms of physics. Yes, while the problem still persists, this has gone a long way in abolishing it (I'd say were a good 60% of the way there). We're certainly getting there. A few physics patch or two more and this will be completely mind-blowing

as I have said before, the physics are not the full problem, but I wouldn't say its anywhere near 60% close to fixing the handling issues, and yes I have driven all the updated cars, and I will say again, physics are only one part of a racing sim, that makes it 'feel' good, when a sim as bad as an ISI sim can put across a more realistic feeling than LFS you know something is wrong, of course its easier to fake it though
