PhysX would be useful if you wanted to simulate every component in the car down to the nuts and bolts, otherwise the CPU is doing a fine job as the game is now. Maybe one day multithreading will be useful to the game but it's a long way off from the place where hardware physics would useful.

Quote from seinfeld :This shows what is capable by 1 man who commandears help from people that can help, this is how a game should be made, by a group of people being guided by the creator. it took the owner of this game 1 year to get GT5 prolouge out, it has 60 cars, and 5 tracks, +reverse, and also different configs of those tracks. I guess im just saying that when you look at LFS's progress, even for a part time game, and less manpower, LFS should be finished by now.

This bit really cracked me up. Do you have any idea how much it costs and how big the dev teams are making these games?

I don't know about the rest of those things but a 'hot pursuit' mode would be fun. Let's say when you're a cop you can drive any car with any skin, but it just put police lights on top of your car. Then you get to chase the 'bad' guy, or guys, and try spinning them out, ramming them into walls etc. When the bad guys car goes below a certain speed (maybe 5km/h or so) with a police car within a couple of metres of him he is 'arrested'. There are already people playing cops n robbers, this would make it so much cooler.

Quote from duke_toaster :IMO, LFS racists should be stripped of their S2 licence. The provisions for that is in the TOS.

A 2 week ban would probably be enough for anybody with an IQ over 80 to watch what they're typing next time around.

Quote from Mikey :Anyone tried patch V under wine? I managed to get it working pretty easily

ubuntu 6.10 desktop (very impressed with it so far)
wine package installed

LFS seems to work more or less couple of issues:

- no sound (maybe vista stuff thats been added)
- shadows issues (minor)
- no real dial display

I tried it under Fedora Core 6. Under Wine I get similar problems, though I do have sound. Under Cedega I only have the shadow issue, dials work fine. Getting about 25FPS at 1280x1024 16bit (24/32 was like 5 fps slower and didn't fix shadows), XP2500, Geforce 6200 (not TC!!), Audigy2 ZS. So while it's nice to know it works I think I'll keep playing on my A64/X1900XT

You did read about Cider in the link in the first post? I wasn't talking about a pure native Mac port in case you missed my point.

Wouldn't this end up being an advantage to anyone who doesn't have a clutch?

I was always slow, but having a shifter means I have more fun being slow. (Act Labs not G25 BTW)

Quote from ajp71 :Well with an Intel Mac why not run Windows games in Windows?

I might not know much about Mac users, but I don't think they bought a Mac so they could run Windows on it.
Did I miss something here? It seems like people think having a LFS port running on Mac is a bad idea? More LFS players = bad?

Man I love this track. If we could have Bathurst and just some generic V8 supercar style car in LFS I would just cry.

That new under car cam is great. Seeing the deformation of the tyre, just like in LFS, great stuff.

Quote from Madman_CZ :and as an addon you could buy little mini steering wheel which you would clip at the bottom of your phone and use your one hand to to play..... the wheel would be about the same size as a lid of a jam pot..!

interesting idea and would give lfs more publicity..

You know you could be onto something ...

OpenGL would be far more use than DX10. Opening the game up to Linux and Mac users would be better for the game. What exactly will DX10 do to make LFS look better? Probably nothing that can't already be done in DX8 or 9.

Quote from Primoz :Sheesh, if i see another Truck suggestion i'll go nuts!! We get the idea. Some of you want trucks. No need to repeat yourself. And IMO, lots of classes will be added before trucks.

As soon as people stop suggesting real life cars we'll stop suggesting trucks

Oh yea if you're after the pedals you'd probably want to get them from advantage1.com.au, shipping would be less

You can order directly from their website, act-labs.com, they'll ship worldwide. I just got the GPL shifter from them a couple of weeks ago.

and of course: some muscle cars / hot rods, nascar, rally, ... well, usual stuff ..

Oh hell yea, a truck or two would be awesome. That would definitely a flavour to the game that's so often passed over. LFS already has decent representations of most types of cars (besides V8 supercars- hint), I wouldn't complain if we got something from totally outside of the square.

Something styled after the Holden Commodore/Ford Falcon with a ~5 litre V8 would be enough to keep me happy.
