Quote from DarkTimes :I like how Chrome approaches versions, they don't have big flagship releases, like FireFox 4 and IE 9, they're just constantly iterating. The version numbers don't matter and I barely even notice them going up anymore. The goal of Google is to get to the point where you don't even notice the browser being updated. The whole big release thing dates from back when it was an effort to publish a new version, but now Google can push out an update every week. Frankly I see this as an improvement.

Also the whole LFS S2 alpha A, B, C thing is just confusing, especially since they ran out letters and went to 0.6 for no real reason. Just do major.minor.revision alpha/beta/stable like every one else.

That there is kinda the point of this thread. Version numbers go up incrementally, at whatever rate the developers want it to. Version 1, 2, 3, etc., doesn't mean anything that Version 0.1, 0.1A, 0.1B, etc., doesn't.

Quote from SilverArrows77 :lol@Frys Electronics - somehow that name doesnt inspire confidence - Its a bit like a seafood business where i am, that unfortunately decided to call themselves "Dolphin Seafoods" .. the name doesnt quite give the impression you want as a fish market.

It's actually a fantastic place. It's HUGE, but it's more like a warehouse without glitzy decorations everywhere. They pass those savings onto their customers. It's a nationwide chain. Not your nation, though =P.

Quote from logitekg25 :wait....can you install these in-game? or is this just for rendering and such

You design the wheel in Bespoke, and it displays the changes in game. You NEED X10 to use Bespoke.

My side view mirrors are set so that they just overlap the viewing angle of my center rear view mirror. I can't see any of my car's body without moving my head sideways drastically. It seems disorienting at first, but once you get used to it, you have a HUGE angle of vision and no blind spots that can't be seen by turning the head 90 degrees either way.

Quote from Dalek0220 :Well, just a few lines of text is never enough, eh?

But I agree with that good yet long statement. LFS is being modeled to drifters/cruisers/other non-related to racing things liking. I like cars. In fact I absolutely love cars. Yet I'm a child. Now, most children love drifting with their "OmGImDoINgaN90deeGree!". Thats what most children are like.

Some other children, like their cruising games. I am using LFS to teach me to drive.(Thank you Logitech!)

But then there's me. And most adults. And basically all fans of the STCC. The racers. People who love a brilliant race. CTRA, Redline, Conedodgers, and other servers as the like, provided.

Now, the Drift kids and the Cruisers are taking over. Racing is our endangered species.

Oh please, let's all join in on this pity parade.

Racing isn't an "endangered species". The vast majority of available servers ARE racing servers, not drift or cruise.

Also, have you ever heard the quote, "It's better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it"?

I agree. I play mostly cruise servers, and the ability to drive multiple paths would increase the fun of these servers exponentially!

My real life car has a 9lb flywheel, and even with that huge reduction in rotating mass, it's STILL faster to shift with a clutch than to shift without. Along with that, my engine management allows me to just jam the gas pedal and the clutch. A clutch switch tells the ECU to limit the revs to 5500RPM (fuel cut is 6800, fyi), and it lets me shift without lifting, thus getting back on the gas that much faster. No lift, no lag, no lost boost.

Quote from theirishnoob :jeez...

the subaru impreza wrx sti came with a over scooped hood ( hood with tons of dips and cups on it :S )

hence the scooby part also people have a horriable of adding roofscoops
for " traction ".... whats so hard to understand ?

Are you kidding me? Roof scoops are NOT for traction. They do nothing to modify the handling of a car, short of adding slight drag and mass. Roof scoops are for delivering cooler air to the drivers, as it gets very hot inside of one of those cars, and the windows tend to stay up to keep dirt and debris out.

Hood scoops push air through the top-mounted intercoolers.

It's Scooby, not Scoopy. The name has jack to do with scoops.

And Scooby means SUBARU. Not Impreza. Scooby can be used to refer to anything from Legacies, Imprezas, etc.

gThis thread has gone way off topic, but I could feel my brain cells killing themselves off one after another with all the misinformation in here.

I'm going to have to second the anti-toe-out sentiment. Try zero toe first. After adjusting everything else to your liking, if the car still exhibits snap oversteer, try 0.1 or 0.2 degrees of toe IN. Any more than that and your setup is probably the problem, not the car.

Momo wheel problem...

Ever since new, this wheel has given me a weird problem. It first became apparent to me when driving down the very long straight on Aston. As I sped up, the car became increasingly difficult to keep in a straight line because, even though I kept the wheel at top dead center, the wheel in game would slowly turn itself to the right. I can try to compensate by turning left, but suddenly the wheel would right itself and I'd feint left and spin out.

This problem doesn't affect me too much in short technical sprints such as autocross, but in a cruise server where most inputs are slow and steady, it's really annoying. Especially in very huckable cars like the LX4. Can anyone help?

Memory addresses. Not files. Not that it matters to you anyway.

Well, since demo version doesn't have Fern Bay to begin with, NO.

Furthermore, since demo users can't use autocross layouts, NO.

Quote from Lex77 :Realism is a reason not too use max caster.
In real life you can't turn down your "force-feedback", so you'd have to cope with the extra effort it takes to turn the wheel.
In real life, I doubt anyone could (or would) last a decent race distance (or even a couple of laps) with the extreme caster settings you see on most lfs setups. Not a fault of the game though.....

Um, I ran max caster in my old autocross Prelude. I think the maximum adjustment my suspension would allow was like 5.2 degrees, though.

The simple truth is, most "endurance" races that those drivers can't bare max caster in, are high speed races. It's better for them just to run more static camber than increase caster as they would be doing a lot of high speed maneuvering, and extra caster would do more to hurt than it would to help.

Caster is helpful during lower-speed driving, such as tight technical courses. Lower it as the speeds increase, however.

+1. This is better than spectating for having wrong handicaps, as the user won't have to bother too much. What he/she gets is what he/she gets, and doesn't have to worry about "Uh oh, was I 2kg under? I might get booted".

Quote from xpjames :Bad enough! What do you mean? I think the idea would be to include it in normal skins so it isn't a seperate download.

Yep, and plus, the download for 30 some skins isn't that bad as long as you're not on POTS. DSL or cable is pretty quick.

I think this would be a great idea. If it's possible, however, I think the effect should be gradual and not simply set. Let the FOV be standard while sitting still, and as you go faster a sort of "tunnel" vision sets in.

Just use the FOX. Even that weights almost 1300 lbs with fuel and driver.

With a car like the FOX still weighing over half a ton, there's no way any type of A-modified car will weigh close to 600. That's superkart territory.

In real life applications, increasing caster does several things. First, as already stated, it increases camber gain, that is, added camber through steering. Think of those choppers with really long front forks. When the bar is turned, the wheel sits practically sideways - big camber gain.

Second, it increases road feel and allows the tires to center themselves more naturally. In this case, think of a shopping cart from the grocery store. Those wheels that sit well behind their pivot point makes it so that if you give it a nudge through a turn and immediately let go, it will almost automatically recenter itself. Both of these positives come at the expensive of additional steering resistance.

Quote from Cappy333 :Let's say you wanted to make an SCCA A-modified car:
Take BF1, use max downforce, restrict power, reduce weight (could be less than 600 lbs)

But you're right, most cars don't require that level of weight reduction.

What? You realize that F1 style cars are mostly stripped down as far as they'll get before you start removing body panels, which weigh nothing anyway. They're a frame with a suspension, drivetrain and seat bolted in, wrapped with about a pound of carbon fiber. There's NO way you can ever get a formula car down to 600 pounds. Well, maybe if you just remove the driveline and weigh it by itself.

And it's not that cars don't REQUIRE that level of weight reduction, it's just that it's IMPOSSIBLE to achieve that level of weight reduction. Get real.

Also, increasing downforce doesn't make the car lighter. It in essense makes it heavier. And restricting power does nothing to weight either, unless you make it more powerful and the car can make more downforce by going faster.
