I just had a problem and wondered if anyone else had seen it or had any thoughts.

I run YzDock 083. I went to the multiplayer page and downloaded the update as I have done before without trouble. This time it crashed saying it couldn't delete LFS.EXE. Unlocker said it couldn't help, it wasn't until I poked around with Process Explorer that I discovered that YzDock had it locked. I closed YzDock and everything went fine when I ran the Version Y installer.

Has anyone else experienced anything similar and come across a better answer than turning off YzDock?

I've never really seen how torture works. I mean, either the person is a 'bad guy' in which case they'll resist you perhaps to the death or wait until you seem like they can convince you and lie, or they'll be innocent and no amount of torture will get the answer you want unless they come up with something that convinces you by accident or in order to stop you hurting them. As far as I can see it's only useful to sickos who like doing it and to people who want revenge on those they think have hurt them. Couching it in a blanket of respectability by getting some talking lab coat to put his name to it doesn't make it any better.

It sounds like a joke to me. Maybe it's just my warped sense of humour.

If it works it'll be the latest thing for pop stars and actresses in no time.

The wonders of a monopoly. Why should we try harder? Who else are they going to use?

I just lost touch with the forum. I changed my DNS to OpenDNS as per JakG's suggestion and I'm back. Curious.

There had to be something, there's no such thing as a free lunch. It's not loaded with them though, from what I see.

I thought Watts was Volts x Amps? (http://amasci.com/elect/vwatt1.html) Anyway, I recently bought an Antec and I'm quite impressed with it. I'd buy another one.

Quote from Jakg :I'm on BT, and while i've only just got up - last night i had DNS issues and couldn't get onto LFSForum, OpenDNS seems to have fixed it.

That sounds like a good idea. I wonder how they support it, advertising revenue?

Last night I couldn't get anything LFS related on my BT line although my Orange phone said it was still there. I wondered if there was something wrong with a DNS server somewhere. Clearly it got over it as I'm here posting.

Any attempt to rationally discuss religion will descend into an argument since faith and reason are incompatible. Maybe some day in the future humans will grow up and stop needing a Santa Claus figure but I'm afraid it looks doubtful.

I have issue with it being referred to as fixed. Disabling the startup check will ignore the symptom, it does nothing to solve it. The thorough disc check mentioned earler is still necessary I'd say.

As soon as I wrote that I wondered if there's a program running at shutdown that doesn't exit cleanly and makes the computer think there was a problem when there wasn't. That's going to be a bit harder to figure out.

Maybe the best thing is to ignore it and see if it goes away...

You can upgrade from 32 bit to x64 if you have XP Pro, apparently. It's probably not worth it though.

Since you mention Medieval 2, I'd direct you to PC Gamer, who know a sight more than me. They recommend you have a 3GHz processor and 1GB of RAM. It sounds like you're probably there already. I recently bought an Nvidia 7900GTO and that copes quite happily with the Medieval demo, I don't have the game yet. Some people mentioned the keyboard - that's what I'd say. Get better peripherals, a really good display for example. That's the bit you actually look at so whatever you put in the box depends on that to be good. Like you said, the wheel changed your experience. It's the tools you use to interact with the computer that matter as much as what's in it.

It's morning, my head hurts and LFS doesn't work properly, thanks to me. That'll teach me. I'm going back to bed.

Don't drink and drive.

I'm going to blame the beer - that way I won't feel like such a dumbass. I got my buttons mixed up. Now I've done myself in until I can unlock again. Then I'm going to wait until I'm more sober before I start fiddling about with my computer...

At least I didn't shout at anyone.

Thanks folks and goodnight.

Quote from Woz :You are pressing the button that turns TC on and off. That is the only time this message is displayed.

Precisely. However, it's on all the cars...

PS

Nuuh. Of course, it would help if I explained properly. What I'm trying to say is that the speed limiter for the pitlane is on but when I try to turn it off I get a message about traction control. It's beginning to sound more like a key-mapping problem.

I'll have to wait until I can unlock it again now. I'll try your idea about the buttons, maybe I can re-map them and clear it out or something.

Nope. The message "This car does not have traction control" appears on the screen. I tried to reinstall and now I've ended up with demo mode and all my unlocks for the month used although I haven't unlocked it for ages.
Traction Control?

Suddenly, any car I use says I don't have traction control. If it's on when I start it stays on and vice versa. Any suggestions?

Quote from DieKolkrabe :I do follow those rules, and still get some unsavoury messages along the lines of 'N00b. Practice', and suchlke

DK

I used to get fed up with people not being tolerant of my being rubbish. I'm slowly getting better - at driving and at not caring. One thing that helps is my new rule where if I'm not really really sure I'll get past I don't even try. Just trying to keep up with the fast drivers without crashing helps me.
