The online racing simulator
Gtl addon tracks work fine, the standard gtl tracks don't:

Notes:

-This is a simple guide where all you need is Notepad, so it only works on Add-On tracks for GTL, not the original ones as those are encrypted.
-You can get fancy and rename all the files to '3Barcelona' it's up to you, as long as you make the necessary corrections in the .trk file.
-Some users are having problems with the pace car blocking the pitlane or being in odd places on some tracks, I haven't experienced that so far so this guide doesn't cover that.

And lastly, to be on the safe side keep the converted tracks to yourself, don't go putting them up for download without permission from the original authors or the people that made the GTL conversion.

Instructions:

You should only have one track folder at a time inside your 'GTR2Demo\GameData\Locations' folder, so go there and cut/paste the 'Barcelona' folder to somewhere safe, doesn't matter where you put it just as long as it's outside the 'Locations' folder. Personally, I made a folder inside the 'GameData' folder called 'Swap' where I put all the tracks. It's handy to have the tracks near the 'Locations' folder if you plan on swapping lots of tracks around.

==============================================

Copy the GTL track to 'GTR2Demo\GameData\Locations'. Don't rename the track folder, leave it as it is.

==============================================

Rename the .aiw .cam .gdb .trk files to:

3Barcelona.aiw
3Barcelona.cam
3Barcelona.gdb
3Barcelona.trk

If the track has a .grd file, rename it to 3Barcelona.grd or delete it if you don't want it as this file is not required. This file controls the grid walkthrough before race start, it's up to you to decide if you want it or not. If you want it and the track doesn't have it, copy the 3Barcelona.grd file from the original Barcelona track, as it works on all tracks.

==============================================

Rename ONLY the extension of the .gtl files to .gtr, so if you were converting TheMother for example, you would end up with two files called:

TheMother.gtr
TheMothermap.gtr

==============================================

Leave the rest of the files alone, or you can delete the .cin and .grd files if the track has them, as they're not really needed.

==============================================

Open the .gdb file with Notepad and change the 1st line of text to '3Barcelona', then save it. In this case the 1st line of text to be changed would be 'TheMother'. If there are filters defined in this file, delete them. You should end up with this:

AI Vehicle Filter =
Filter Properties =

I'm not sure if the game even picks up the AI filter, as it is quoted out in the Barcelona track, but it's best to leave it empty in any case.

==============================================

Open the .trk file with Notepad and change all the MASFile extensions to .gtr and save it. In the example of TheMother you would end up with something like:

MASFile=skies_central.gtr
MASFile=TheMothermap.gtr
MASFile=TheMother.gtr

==============================================

This last step is not necessary, but if you want to have that nice loading screen of the GTL track rename the '*LOD.jpg' file to '3Bar_LOD.jpg' and copy the '3Bar_LOD_2.jpg' file from the original Barcelona track.

ok.. then how do you do that deko?

as for the way deja vu posted, i got road atlanta and infineon to work, but i cant get lemans working, and those are the only ones i've tried so far

just got suzuka to work

this can be done easily, you just have to get one to work, put it in the swap folder, then whenever you want to drive that track, just drag and drop it back into locations folder... not hard
still have to rename certain files and change text within them - rather do it myself

to bad you cant use any specific team car though

just did some laps around laguna seca in the saleen; it was quite the joyride (and its even fun at night )

dunno, racing simulators and night and rain... just make it so much more fun

after that worthy demo.. um.. 'hacks' i actually might get this game
Quote from Shotglass :to me they look a hell of a lot more professinal than the ones in rfactor or gtr
lfs' menues are a lot cleaner than the ones in theose 2 games

The menu system in LFS is great but visually it's just horrible, unprofessionally looking and pretty much a turn-off. It doesn't make you think you're playing a pro sim, makes you think more like you're playing some freeware arcade game... As I said the menu system is great, I don't know any other game where I can change any possible options while actually racing (if the start line straight is just long enough ). But it just needs graphically better looking backgrounds, button colours etc. Fortunately you can already customize those but unfortunately that doesn't change the default ones which every new LFS player will see and probably be turned off by them.
Oh cmon. Why some people allways complain about the LFS menu. Maybe it doesn't look arcade to myself because when I start LFS I know what it is. But anyone who judges a sim by it's menu should be shot. If they get somehow turned off by it, they will be nicely surprised when they drive their first laps. Which is guite opposite to GTR where you get turned off when you have done those laps.
Not really, i like gtr - gtl and gtr2, always liked anything that is based on isi's engines. People can nit pick at physics and whatever else they want to - Won't stop me from enjoying any of the above games, and that's what games are for, enjoying.

I've spent much more time in gtr/gtl than in lfs - it's a way more polished product.
its also been worked on for several years on end by a group of 300+ people
I like the LFS menus and want to keep them but have been wittering on for ages that the LFS menus look 'arcadey' in the eyes of the average GTR fan, that is they are not stupidly complex and designed clean and easy to use. I know this sounds pathetic but I think LFS having simple menus that are simply different to the usual over complicated approach creates a big turn off to some sim racers.
If I compare the GTR2 menus and LFS menus, the LFS menus are more usable and GTR menus better looking. But both of them are just as easy to configure at first start.

But in general the LFS menus look ok, specially with remade background pictures

And I just noticed I have steering lag in GTR2 + the pedals start working only after I have pressed them more than 50%. It's like the pedal travle equals to logarythmic throttle . So steering lag + hard-to-use-pedals with narrow tracks and surprizing physics need some tweaking before I start to play it more

EDIT: I think the LFS menus look slightly too purist and GTR menus are just too much for eyecandy. But LFS too arcady? Nooo

GTRs netcode didn't work illepall How are they more `polished` than LFS. LFS has little to no bugs and works like a retail product at its v1.0 stage. To me something that isn't `polished` means you have to work around certain bugs to make it work, which I certinally don't have to do in LFS.

GTR2 is basically a patch that should have been free with GTR.

both of them or only one of them ?
if its just the gas pedal the game was probably assigned to combined pedals by default and with you only reassigning the brake the gas still acts like a combined pedal

I'm pretty sure that I have the pedals properly calibrated and set up. Both of the pedals act this way. They are set individually, so pressing brake doesn't affect throttle or vice versa.

It was similar with GTL, GTR and rfACTOR, so I guess it is just a "feature"

I have tried to change the setup options but all I see is the sensitive and deadzone, which only make the pedals less accurate or spiky (=steeper "curve").

Hmm, maybe I could calibrate the pedals so that I only use the first 50% of the travel, but this would affect LFS also...

EDIT: using microsoft sidewinder pedals and the control software ver. 4.0
Picking bugs like that can happen to any person. Certain people will have issues with lfs with there hardware - others with gtr or whatever.

GTR's netcode was fine for me, never had one issue playing online. And gtr/gtl has never crashed for me - always been fine

Im not starting a debate im merely stating imo that gtr is a more polished product. There's already plenty of topics debating gtr's physics, threads about how poor lfs is in the sound department. Each person to there own, i'm merely stating my own opinion.

I used to love playing S1 - i loved playing S2 when it first came out, but i find way more enjoyment in gtl and now gtr2 demo than in lfs.

When lfs get's to the stage where, damage is modelled properly, the sound has more "uumph" to it and car models/interiors are more detailed then i may start playing it again.

And it's obvious lfs will be more bug free, it's constantly being updated - and in certain terms is a public beta - as everyone reports bugs and the major ones are ironed out on it's road to S2 Final. I wouldn't expect any different from the Online Simulator.

GTR/GTL/GTR2 Have something LFS doesn't, which is the in-depth Single-player. Which is one of the reasons i bought it.
I'm starting to enjoy it after grappling with the new feel for over an hour. I'm playing with the mouse so any wheel/ffb comparisons are not applicable. It's different. I thinked i'm hooked by the graphics and sound, which to me are exceedingly good, and surprisingly very smooth with an x800pro on high settings. I think of rFactor when I play this, but since I played rFactor for a total of about 1/2 an hour (due to no mouse support), this is of course a very superficial reference. But there's that same shaking/rattling energy, the experience is not as smooth or controlled as in LFS. This rattle manages to be somehow both fun and frustrating, but feels too severe- I think I prefer LFS here. Maybe I'm just too used to LFS...

I dunno. Obviously a very fancy package. Once again i appluad the graphics- replays look awesome, the setting sun stinging your eyes as you hurtle round a turn (beautiful), the sharply detailed car models...

It ain't LFS, it's something else. But it's alright.

edit:- I have to mention that after playing GTR2 for an hour, and then switching over to LFS, the engine sound in LFS was just horrible. After 5 mins, things settled down and I was no longer concerned about the crappy sound. Familiarity breeds content...
man.. nothing else can beat the feeling of racing the Saleen at Laguna Seca.. wonderful mix

so is the viper at road atlanta

True. But it works other way round too. After playing LFS I find myself always wondering that why it sounds in GTR2 like the car has just stalled when I take off foot from the gas pedal.

I think it's still kind of 50-50 between sampled sounds and generated sounds. Other one has the immersion and other one has the feedback. Everyone who claims that he can't hear the accurate feedback with the generated sounds hasn't just played enough LFS.
all the devs for LFS have to do is recreate a spool sound of an engine like you would listen to for a game such as GTR or anything else with an MIDI engine or.. a sound sequencer or any sound creation program, then code in how it currently works and.. there we go.. real sounds straight (but not direct) from a source
Quote from DejaVu :I've spent much more time in gtr/gtl than in lfs - it's a way more polished product.

I've spent just enough time in GTR to notice it was a big pile of s*** painted in chrome. Nice to look at for a while but smelt anyway. If GTR2 Demo had a simulation mode (from here I've read it's arcade only), I maybe could give it a try.

...My humble opinion, do not joke in your coke.
Like i said, each person has there own opinion, and i'm not here to force any1 to be the same as me

I'm looking forward to gtr2, and also dtm - that should be awesome.

S3 If it finishes off everything i feel is missing from lfs will be awesome when it finally arrives
Quote from XCNuse : its also been worked on for several years on end by a group of 300+ people

300? Im assuming your referring to the GTR/GTL comment. Im pretty sure simbin is a small team of no more than 20 people.
Is there any way to prevent the force feedback from going completely loose when the car understeers?
