actually, i have played the original starcraft. and whether you think they're not the same, the gameplay is.
if you want a real example, okay.
what is the deal with resources? how does gas and crystals make buildings? and i don't see the point in using units to gather those resources and process them. in total annihilation, you plop down a solar collector and a metal extractor. metal and energy at least makes sense.
whether or not they fixed some of the mechanics (ie: selecting multiple units and assigning squads; firing radii, elevation and line-of-sight; not being able to deselect units; multiplayer installs with regards to cd verification; etc etc), starcraft is the same game it was in the mid-to-late 90's.
just in the same way i can say that TA:spring is the same game, the only difference is the graphics engine and a few other improvements.
but yeah, "i've never played an RTS before and i don't know two shits about what i'm talking about... again."
did you even read it? there's 40 reasons right there... most of which i can agree with. except for the one about AI movement paths, TA sucks in that regard too.
i think at this point most of us have accepted that words are just words, and when the patch comes, it will. or it won't. frankly, i stopped caring, myself. if all s3 is, is rockingham (in only one direction), the vws, and a possible mystery car (whatever that could be), it won't be as big as s2 was. i know i won't be upgrading my account when it hits.
might as well check coolant while you're at it. not because it's related, but because i know a few people who beat the piss out of their cars and they all seem to die with cooling related problems (overheating, head gaskets, etc).
he's using reason, a mpc and a mini keyboard for inputs. you don't necessarily have to chop samples (depending on your creativity), but he shows the initial sample, and lays down the chops. you don't see him lay down the drum beat (it might be a drum machine, but i doubt it), but you do get to hear the final product.
this guy also uses reason. the video is a little old now, but it should still get the idea across (this one shows the drum beat too, 808/snare). he had a website full of free beats, but it looks like he took them all down, i'm guessing he got big enough that he didn't need to sell them online.
