I'm going to stay out of this mostly. I too am highly displeased at the apparent lack of progress. But its whatever, I'm not the one working on it. However, if posts are indeed being deleted, then I agree that censorship is the right word for it and all the connotations that implies. If you're going to lock a thread, fine. But to delete it is stiffling free speach. At the most, edit the content of the opening post to say it violates forum rules and lock it...but leave it up so that it can be seen to have existed.

About two months ago, I logged on and found a server/car combination that was acceptable. But was immediately booted off because I hadn't earned enough "points" or some crap like that. I paid for it, let me race. Anyways, couldn't find anything else as it was the ONLY track going at the time besides a one car race in South City. So I logged back in with a Demo car and was immediately banned for "speeding". What the hell is this crap? Why does no one want to RACE using a RACING SIMULATOR with a name like Live For SPEED?

I actually like that most of the cars in LFS aren't real. Reason: a game/simulation will never be as real as a real car. So...I never want to spoil either the game/simulation OR the car when I finally get to drive one in real life. Either it will be better than it was in program, or worse. But never the same. Imagine if we had a ex. Honda Civic in LFS. And you had never driven a Honda Civic. And you fell in love with it. Then you find one in real life...and are disappointed. Then you blame yourself for not having the ballz to drive it like in LFS. Then decide its because you can't adjust a billion settings like in LFS and splurge on $$$$ suspension. End result: you're broke and disappointed. Thats a madeup scenario, but I can imagine that it could happen. Certainly I've heard it before "I finally got to drive a ____ and it wasn't at all like it was in ____ !!!!" Same goes for real tracks as well. Thats why I do NOT want the Nurburgring ported to LFS. Make up a new 20 mile 200 corner track (seriously, PLEASE!?!?!?? I'm bored with the current tracks).

Are there any drivers out there? The only thing I can find is this: http://www.logitech.com/en-us/ ... ds&osid=14&bit=64

Installed it and try to run it and get "Logitech Profiler was unable to detect any gaming devices...." Same problem as this thread: http://forums.logitech.com/t5/ ... ofiler-problem/m-p/104591

I'm about ready to give up
Cordless Rumblepad 2: no Force Feedback

Hi there. I just got a new laptop (Acer Aspire 7740g-6364) and a Logitech Cordless Rumblepad 2. It works fine in LFS, except no "rumble". I'm just wondering if this is something in LFS or something in the controller. Not really a big deal, it was the cheapest cordless gamepad I could find (by a company I recognize).

I'll start by saying I only read the first page or so.

I can only race so many times round a track in so many different ways before I become hopelessly bored. Repeating a track in a different car is not that interesting. I have no problem with the number of cars, but the number of tracks. I simply can't be that excited to see the starting point again after 5 or 6 corners. I've always really liked the longer tracks, but even there, after 10 or 12 laps, sameness enters in. If there were twice or three times the number of tracks, or a couple really really long ones (a nurburgring knock-off) I wouldn't have written this paragraph.

For a while there, LFS Tweak offered some excitement. Building a car with 2000+ bhp per tonne offers a new challenge. But then its gets boring as well. You can only do so many 19 sec Ring passes or 4 sec drag times before you get really really bored.

So I tried the dismally small rally tracks for a while with every type of car. This offered excitment till I finally got setups that worked.

I realize the aversion to usermade tracks and cars. Because 90% will end up being garbage. But if the program was opened up to custom made tracks and cars, the production focus could remain on the physics and code that made this program exciting in the first place. When I started playing LFS back in 2002 or whenever, the graphics were subpar, the sound atrocious, and the gameplay awesome. Why? The physics were good and that made the gameplay good despite the lack of graphics and sound. These have now caught up, but with only one track and couple cars since S1.

A lot of other games out there have plenty of usermade "products" (for lack of better word) with little to no tweaking of the code. If this program was opened up to user-submitted cars and tracks (even with a selection committee of some kind to keep out subpar product) it would provide a jolt of energy and momentum to keep it sustained between patches. There could even be a $0.99 download fee of new cars and tracks for example to keep revenue coming in (with a % of sales applied to the submitting users account as credit against future Sx releases).

Just my rambling thoughts. No offense intended in any way. I generally play a "game" and uninstall, LFS has been on every computer I've owned since I came across it 8 years ago.

Quote from Scawen :well I guess that means there must be a whole lot of sims out there that have overtaken LFS in nearly every way. If so, you can use them for a while

Anything worth looking into? I'm serious. As much as I love LFS, I want to spend some time away from it...so that when the new updates come out I can appreciate them all the more.

I've been trying to get this to work since November. I just installed a fresh 0.5Z LFS in a seperate folder. I've followed all advice, and tried every version. Basically, what happens is NOTHING AT ALL. If I start up the game and type /insim=29999 I get InSim : port 29999. Go back into xp and doubleclick the .exe and NOTHING. The cursor turns to an hourglass for a split second and thats it. What am I doing wrong?

This would be good, as I want to see if my tweak for a 2.56 second drag time still works . (0-442 mph in .12 seconds and coasts to the finish). Though this is with 500,000 hp, and only possible because the physics can't handle out of range numbers.

Seriously though, I don't see the point in 3 psi to the rear tires. The tire modles in LFS just don't have the right sidewall flex. My fastest time for the FXR is 10.31 sec (I don't know if anyone is faster and don't care...that is with keyboard cause my gamepad broke, so I have to dump the clutch to launch and I still get a half second of wheelspin). I'm running 21 psi to the rear tires. Any less and it slows down.

I disagree about demo racers and blackwood straight. I think they should have drag slicks only for the drag strip. But a properly setup drag strip with burnouts and staging and a full time slip. Wouldn't be that hard to setup. And LFS was supposed to be about simulating all forms of racing, so unless the focus has changed that would be one more that could be ticked off on the master board of racing goodness.

negative value on the intake restrictor doesn't work.

Open LFS
Shift+Tab back to windows
Open ValueMod
Click on LFS
In the Garage find the setting you want
Shift+Tab
Drop down the menu in ValueMod, choose LFS
Enter the value of the setting you found, click search
Wait
Go back to LFS
Change the value (ie, brakes from 1600 to 1590)
Leave the garage
Shift+Tab
Enter the new value and search again
Keep changing the value as it asks you to, leaving the garage each time, until it says kaching
Enter the value you want in ValueMod (and set the lock off on the right)
Click set

Work for you?

Cool, managed to finally adjust the center diff higher than 20 torque. Now if only there was a way to use insim or whatever to constantly adjust it for an active center diff .

LFS Tweak can change tyre sizes

MiniMechanik can change car types (which have different limits on various settings)

Unfortunately, no one ever seems to release them both for the same patch! Grr. Anyways I'm not criticizing your requests, I'd like to do the same thing and a bunch more, but its not so simple anymore. Any of us can make an app that does all this quite easily (apparently so the coders), the problem is getting it approved these days.

If I remember correctly (unlikely ha!), there are files that determine how the track is created. In other words, Aston has a bunch of different tracks, but its all pulled from one "world", and the files only tell the layout of the track. There ARE track combinations that havn't been released yet. So... it might be possible to create a file that draws up the missing combinations for South City, Kyoto, Aston, and Fern Bay. Possibly anyways.

I'll try to find another player, but I was talking about video files, not music. I like WMP simply because it loads instantly and you can go back and forth in a file with ease (unlike VLC player which if you don't touch it right will jump 15 minutes one way or another). Cheers

Quote from Bob Smith :You know I always thought that too, but now having tried myself, I can assure you it's only a five minute job (literally).

So... if I had the right knowhow, I could grab an old version of Tweak and Mechanik and just update where the lookups are for the values and be set?

Can't. Move along.

(It takes a long time to adapt these programs to updated versions as I'm sure you can appreciate, so kindly wait a few months till someone bothers to release a version to us humble masses. And you're a demo user, pony up the money and experience the wonders of S2)
LFS screws up Windows Media Player

Just a minor annoyance this. If I pause windows media player (or any program that runs its plugins, like TMPGEnc), and run LFS and then quit back to windows, all I see is a blank screen inside WMP. So I have to close out of what I'm doing and restart to see anything.

meh, I could care less for Tweak. Why adjust the demo cars when we can get minimechanik back and I can get my 1600 hp FXR back?? And waiting for a minimechanik that can finally adjust the F1 Sauter!!!

Quote from Scawen :FIX : Start lights delay did not vary each race if wind was disabled

I feel I must protest at this one (slight protest, don't worry). In the overweight land of America where drag racing is king, a lot of people leave on the last "yellow" light (which is red here, but oh well), because the delay is set and if you leave at the last light, it takes that split second for your body to react so you actually leave at the correct time.

All I'm saying is that if you're going for realism and already have the drag strip and christmas tree starting lights, could you at least keep it realistic so we A-murikanz can feel like its a simulator? (I don't want to mention other requests, such as a readout at the end of the strip for time, mph, and 60 ft times...)

Quote from Scawen :
Well, AI is next thing to be worked on after patch X is released. It will take some weeks, I can't really do anything very quickly. However, W32 was supposed to make it that any AI who can't reset, do try to drive away without resetting. I'm interested in situations where that is not working.

I don't have any screenshots or replays, but here are the problems I've seen:

a) (especially in South City) AI who can't reset try to drive away into oncoming traffic. This causes an accident, so now two cars are trying to drive away into traffic, 2+2=4 and so on.

b) sometimes they will just sit facing the side burning their tires off

c) sometimes they will just go back and forth, but never manage to actually move more than a few feet.

d) in South City, try and drive down blocked off roads, managing to just get far enough away from traffic to sit there and do nothing. After a race will end, I can drive back through the track and see them sitting there doing nothing. A little friendly "pursuasion" (ramming) to get them facing the right way will only result in them backing up and moving right back into the same spot, putting it in 1st gear and doing nothing again.

Its like the AI have an idea of exactly where they want to go on the map, but dont realize what is in their way.

As to resets in general, it would be nice that if all the cars nearby (ie, stuck AI) are not moving, or moving under 5 mph, to allow reset without the "will cause yellow flag" or "may hit cars". If the cars nearby aren't moving, what harm could a reset do? Besides, if my being stuck is whats preventing the AI from moving, then it would unstick the jam. Just a thought.

As you can see, it only took 7 laps for the AI to completely get stuck... is there any way to turn off the new way of resetting in single player and put it back like it was? I find it annoying when an AI car plows into me, sideways, at 120 mph and flips me over on the grass and I can't reset because I *might* cause a yellow flag. Or, as the attached pic shows, can't reset because I'm next to another car which can't reset, which is next to another car which can't reset... I looked through the options list and didn't see how to turn this off. I only play single player because of the wacky internet I have. When I can't even do 10 laps without the AI screwing everything up EVERY TIME now, I don't see any point in playing anymore.

Quote from Jakg :it was never released, and the person who made it had his S2 account suspended for 100 days, which was, imho, way to leniant, although maybe the devs know something we don't...

Wow, Funnybone was suspended? Didn't know that.... It WAS released and was the major reason we used to get Drag times under 3 seconds "back in the day". You're confusing two different programs. I never knew of any hack, I'm referring to MiniMechanik that we all knew and loved.
