Quote from Honey :no but, retina works like a low-pass filter and frames are the source digital signal, for those who knows the shannon theorem, this is similar...in few words: images persist on the retina for few moments, if another image comes before the previous image is "disappeared" from retina, then the eye sees them continuosly and more smoothly as much closer the two images come.
science says that human eye has its threshold at 50Hz (50 fps) but also says that this is not a crisp limit, the more fps you get the more stable and fluid you see, i'd say that above 100fps it becomes too unoticeable, but having 100fps makes it more smooth...that's the same reason why running crt monitors at 85Hz or above is good for eyes health...

I know nothing about this subject except for what I've read. And what I've read is that recent research has shown that it makes a difference what kind of frames you're seeing per second. The human eye can see a noticeable difference in fps on a CRT between 60 and 120 (and some can even detect the differences up to 200 fps) because of the way a CRT works. The article I read on this was pretty in depth but basically pointed out that 60 fps is a minimum for the average human. But that some can detect over 200 fps. So more still is better. Btw, I average 100 fps steady no matter what happens on the track etc., or whether I'm encoding DVDs or not.
Insane physics (bug?)

I'll let the replay speak for itself. One lap at the dragstrip, not long. Hit sidewall, spin like a top for 15 seconds. I know this is common, but this one is pretty severe.

Is this a joke? If not, leave now and never return (until you grow out of thieving at least, your manners are at least polite). If it is...I am not laughing.

With S1 I used to love to add downforce and horsepower and rip around south city. Now...we have cars that aren't as fast with top speed but handle better etc.... If only we could get some more powerful racers and some V8s into LFS we won't need Tweak, IMO. Just release some more cars!

Quote from Scawen :What do you want them for anyway, are you taking close-up screen shots of the road? Or is it for some adverts? Do you think there are just a few things that are too low res or are you talking about everything?

I can't speak for anyone else, but the thing I notice most when I drive is, fortunately, the road, being the thing I'm driving on. And it doesn't look to great to see a white/grey splotch to represent different bits of gravel, or yellow/brown splotches to represent different kinds of dirt. A high-res asphalt texture and high-res dirt texture would greatly improve this. At the moment it reminds me of Doom II. New physics work good though.

Well I'm still slow as always (I play with a gamepad), but at least now I can take out any car on any track and complete laps, which means I can start to learn the lines, which means I get faster. It hasn't made it easier, its opened the door to lots of hours of hard practice.

I only read the first page. All I can say is I have had a normal tire at normal pressure come off the rim in real life after some...interesting...cornering. And if you kick my car (which weighs less than 1700 lbs), you can see some massive deformation standing still. I don't think LFS is severe in the least.
One thing I don't like...

I love the new patch, its the best thing yet for LFS. However, when viewing outside the car, the new digital numbers I find are little harder to read. Any way to change them back in settings? More importantly, the shift lights and TC lights are HORRIBLE. they look like they were drawn in MSPaint about 12 years ago. In a game where everything has always been beautiful, I feel a little let down. Just had to vent. Thanks for your time.

I only read the first page. Seems to work ok. However...

Changing cartype doesn't bring up the downforce menu

Mechanik settings not available

Just clicking on "default" tab resets everything to default

My main complaint is the lack of editability of the mechanik settings. In my experience with previous versions, the weight property in mechanik affected the weight of the body while the weight property in LFSTweak affected the weight of the engine. To fine tune a vehicle, you need to be able to adjust both. If possible, could you update Mechanik to Patch Q at least so we could run both mechanik and LFSTweak at the same time (or do an LFSTweak for Patch P5)?

Quote from BrandoonWa :Yeah, I don't think anything much faster than a 5.6 is possible unless someone's got a way to hook up better low end.

My problem wasn't hooking up, it was bursting tires going anything faster. It sucks having Mechanic running version P and the slickmod running version Q. R4 slicks last just a hair longer than R3 or R2, Id like to try the Super tires or even Normal to keep it from bursting. Or something else I havn't thought of. Its hard to maintain control when the back tires burst before the fronts.

Quote from Bob Smith :Check RSC - back in S1 days somebody managed it in 2.95 seconds IIRC. I've got into the high 4s myself.

That was probably one of mine. I stumbled across it one day just by changing values to the extreme. Basically get it to rev to 250,000+ rpm with a million horsepower (or more) and it affects the way the suspension and car react. A slight change in the rebound or stiffness would be the difference between the car staying on the road or bouncing away to oblivion. And with a million horsepower it really would take off if you just nudged the throttle. In S2 with the new mechanic thats out I managed a 5.6X something in the Formula V8 with mouse and keyboard. Then I got bored.
Can't get above 70 FPS

I don't know what I've done... I was getting 125-140 fps on my new computer (Venice 3200 with 7800GT), now I get a constant 70.2 FPS and it will not go above that. I know I shouldn't really see any difference visually, but is there any way to raise it? I have checked inside LFS all I can and I do not have FPS locked in the game itself, so what should I look for outside of the game? thanks

EDIT: Nevermind, I found it. Vertical Sync was forced on in my graphics cards settings. Don't remember turning it on, but FPS shot through the roof again. Cheers.

Quote from mkinnov8 :Hey

I had a major FPS problem myself and i play on a laptop..

For months things were going fine with 30-60FPS on full grids, then all of a sudden dropping to 5-6FPS...

My problem was overheating, a known issue with this Toshiba laptop. Solution: Place laptop on four DrPepper bottle tops, increased frames to around 20 constantly,

dunno if that helps at all, but now clearning the laptop away from the desk really helped.

I'm only using one mountain dew cap, thats my problem...

Thanks, I hadn't played with the Minimum sleep enough. Setting it at 8 ms works, but 7 and under has this problem. I had been playing with it at 1-5 I think. cheers.
low FPS?

Hi, I'm not online much (never race online) and just was wondering if there is any way of fixing this. No matter what I do, I start out with decent FPS (anywhere from 32-60 depending on settings), but within about 30 seconds it drops, noticeably, down to about 15-18, then climbs to 22, then shoots back up to normal for about 30 seconds, then drops again. It does this all the time, and did it on my previous computer (completely different setup) as well. I'm currently running a Toshiba Satellite laptop with a 3 gigahertz processor and about 700 megs of ram. It DOES have awesome FPS...when it works. But then it drops again. And goes up, and comes down. Its really starting to annoy me, and I don't know what to do, as I've tried everything in LFS, and updated just about everything possible on my laptop (which improved FPS from 50 to 60, but it still drops to 15). What am I missing? Thanks

thats why I wear headphones. I take them off when I'm not racing. I agree about the clipping sound...however if you went WAYY over sometimes it would good, especially on the flat 5 or flat 10 in LFS Tweak, provided you don't hit 8000+ rpm. at least to me. I just am tired of this constant hum varying in pitch...engines sound more diverse than that, anything to have a change of pace would be nice.
Engine sound mods?

I've been out of the loop for a while. Only really checking in on LFS Tweak. I was just wondering if there were any engine sound mods available, or even possible. Even the raspiness part of LFS Tweak would be nice: I could ratchet that up, and turn down the sound in-game. Just looking for some variety in sounds is all. Thanks.

One (minor) thing I noticed is that while the snow textures are nice, one some of the edges (barriers and so forth), the bottom edge is still grass green. Pretty cool overall though.

it would be nice to have a three-step rev limiter for the turbo cars. ie, one rev limiter set low to bounce on to build boost for the start, one at the limit, and another for when the clutch is engaged between gears at a lower rpm to bounce on to keep up boost.

Running normal or hybrid tires with the higher power cars (using slickmod) helps. as does setting Track LOD Reduction to No.

So after this is released, will someone start on a thunderstorm/ice/winter version? I've seen a winter version for blackwood before, long time ago. Personally, a night w/snow would work well, as the moonlight reflecting off the snow/ice would actually create a good amount of light so you could actually see. maybe a Day Snow and Night Snow version. Then we need an Autumn version with red and yellow leaves everywhere. And a radioactive version with green slime on the track. Actually I'd just be happy with a decent winter version. I like winter. Is it possible to change the ambient temps as well, or change tire temps to match winter conditions? Just a thought. Too bad the cars cant be fitted with a snowball cannon. I miss winter. Fall sucks.

Just wanted to say that I used to play an old racing game (forget the name, it was mostly crappy) that had several cities where, if you wanted to race, you could click on the streets you wanted to use for the race, clicked the intersection for the start and finish, etc., and then raced. What is good about this is you could build a city like South City and a country roads map and set it up for this type of format. If you had more than just a couple roads, and many different intersections, you could conceivably have infinite number of racetracks, while not opening LFS to modders. The City map would be great for tarmac, and the country could be a rallycross with tarmac and farmers dirt roads.
