Remember MiniMechanic? Not the last one but the one before it? There was a setting in there where you could change the coefficient of drag, making a car with negative drag. Anyways point being, why would you ban him for asking about something that was released on this forum a while ago anyways?

I did faster, like 7.0X, but this screenshot looks cooler, so I go with it. Five minutes of effort...

There is only one thing I really don't like (and I know I don't have much time online, I'm just too busy most of the time): joining a server and before I even hit second gear leaving the pits there are two votes to ban me. I mean, why? What did I do? I hadn't even been in this one before.

Aston Historic Reversed. THE Fastest track in the whole game. Fastest in that in any car you can go almost the whole lap at full throttle (in the FXR I only brake at three corners and only let off on two others). But this makes it insanely difficult. You have to hit every corner just right to go through it all flat out. Considering I'm using a crappy gamepad... To me South City is easy. I might not get the best times, but most corners are slow corners, if you screw up a little you can fudge your way through it. Hitting fast corners with enough speed to toss you to the side if you get it wrong is much more challenging.

Of course its getting old. I joined in the pre-S1 days and while the physics and everything else has been greatly improved, the graphics have only marginally been bumped up since then. You can only stare at the same thing long enough before becoming bored, no matter how much the interplay between you and track and car are improved. Its been well over a year (I think) since we last saw a preview clip for fog I think. Until theres weather added, or the cars and tracks get a fresh update, it will look the same as it did for a long time now. Just my opinion mind you

Maybe its because I'm 6'2", but I realized in most cars I'm usually looking "down" onto the road rather than straight ahead. I changed the custom view to match this: raised up, scooted forward a hair and tilted down (so the edge of the windshield is at top of screen and the bottom is where the hands are at straight ahead). For me at least this greatly improved the sense of speed. And, because I was now looking down on the tires, also helped me with a sense of exactly where the tires are.
Resetting to overpass in SC Long

Here's a replay (ignore my bad driving). This used to be a problem many patches ago and I just noticed it again. If you reset your car under the overpass it resets you on top. Unfortunately this means you can't get back on the regular track again.

Quote from mrodgers :All cars have rev limiters.

Not true (in real life anyways). Loads of underpowered older cars didn't have rev limiters because, although you could rev them past redline, they lost power so much there just wasn't any point to revving that high so they never bothered to give them one.

I think a two-step rev limiter is vital for the turbo cars though and wish they would implement them. To get a fast launch (without changing gearing) you have to bounce off the redline limiter to build boost. Fine, but it increases wear, and doesnt do as well as an adjustable limiter for launching (4-5k). Even better would be a three-step limiter. One for launch, one for normal (redline), and a third for neutral set for a higher rpm (7-8k). This is used so you can flat shift up or down and it wont zing up in the rpms as far and can hold boost. It would be nice to have three step limiters. But I have no idea how any of these addons works so I cant even guess if its possible.

Just popped in to say that I changed my mind on the new sounds now that I know how to mess with them (text "/edit_eng" and then shift+A). Maybe its my speakers or something, but with a little nudging here and there all the cars sound better.

Congradulations. I should probably buy a wheel at some point. I'll stick to my crappy gamepad for now. After all, its only 0:05 slower...

Am I missing what is impressive here? I've made tweaks with over a million horsepower and took advantage of a traction bug to get drag times of under 2.5 seconds. I've posted them before several times. ...its not that hard to turn up the torque and power...

Gates in Skid Pad

Dont know if this has been mentioned before, but if you go to the skidpad now and drive up to the gate it resets the car and you can even "drive" through the gate. Pic attached.

Locking the center diff would only lock a 50/50 front rear power distribution. You would still have viscous/open diffs at front and rear and wouldn't result in loss of steering. This is why IRL people weld center diffs: permanent 50/50 distribution (and also usually to make the center diff stronger which isn't a problem yet in LFS). My point is though that since some people choose this in real life, I would like to choose it in here as well.

Yea, broad generalizations I know. I was just stating it would be nice to have a difference between the two engines. And I restate what I was intending:
FZR - lightest, highest revving, least torque
XRR - medium, medium, medium
FXR - heaviest, lowest revving, most torque

As for configuration of pistons making no difference, that is false. Why else do some companies agonize over the amount of degrees in the V configuration? A narrow V produces more power higher up and a wider V produces more power down low.
Different tq/hp output for XRR/FXR (inline vs flat)

If I remember correctly, a flat engine of the same size tends to rev less and produce more torque than its inline brother. Hence it would be nice to see that reflected ingame as well. If corrected this would also provide a nice balance to the GTR cars:
FZR - lightest, highest revving, least torque
XRR - medium, medium, medium
FXR - heaviest, lowest revving, most torque
Locking Center Diff

It would be nice to have an option to lock the center diff on the FXR and RB4. The reason being: even if you set it to viscous and turn it to max there are situations (curbs, grass) where the front wheels lose traction and it matters not that I have 95% of the power going to the rear tires, the front tires are the ones spinning. Usually this happens while going through a corner which ruins the advantage that AWD has when 2 of the 4 tires are spinning and the other 2 are barely moving the car. IRL people weld their center diffs to overcome this problem (especially in situations like rally where its easier just to have a permanent 50/50 lock).

Suggestions: 1) Have "Locked" as an option for the center diff.
2) Since the FXR and RB4 do not have traction control, and since some real life cars have this ability, it would be nice to temporarly lock the center diff from the cab of the car, ie, use the traction control assigned button to lock/unlock the center diff.

Anyways, just some thoughts, and I can't see how having a locked center diff as an option hurts anything. Cheers

When I get done with work late at night and can't be bothered to race online I spend 20-30 minutes working on hotlaps. If you keep plugging away at a single track/car combo its amazing how you can find how to cut off seconds. And I'm horrible at racing. And I only have a gamepad. I love hotlaps, especially because if someone is faster than you you can see it and download his lap and compare. Good feature.

Aston Historic Reversed, the last *difficult* corner (because the last two corners are really high speed). It starts off fast, then gets tighter, tighter, tighter. Have to keep dropping gears to stay on the road. Can never get it right. Either come out of it with plenty of road left over, or hit the wall.

Ah, but to remember it, I'd have to ALT-TAB out, go online, search... lol. It didn't use to be a problem till this last patch (for me), so its something that can be fixed again.
Problem when switching to windows
bw_krupp

If I have a replay paused and I switch to windows for something (on purpose) I have no mouse icon. If I move the mouse around I can see it highlight stuff but can't see the mouse. Which basically means I can't see if I'm on the right spot to click to go back to LFS to close the replay so I have to CTRL+ALT+DEL to pull up task manager and close LFS which instantly brings back my mouse. Happens every time. Weird.

EDIT: Also does it when replay is running as well.

EDIT II: Would it be possible to add a best time to the replays of hotlaps? So if you're in the replay menu and you click on a file it states the best time so you don't have to load the lap to see? Just a thought.

When I installed LFS recently on my new computer I was missing the unlock button too. So I did a couple laps (to see the nice improvement in FPS), restarted my computer, there it was. I know it doesn't help, but for me at least it fixed itself.

Racing is also different than real life: tires only have to last a matter of minutes or hours, not months. There are people in real life that run locked diffs daily, but at the expense of changing tires more often. In a game where you can just have the tires changed when you pit, its not as big a deal.
