99% of the time i use what is called a Scandinavian Flick. For example, as you approach a right hand corner, you steer quickly left, let off the throttle, quickly steer back right, get back on the throttle, then control the slide through the corner.
There are MANY different ways to drift though, and like Greboth said, it all comes down to practice and which method you prefer.
there are locks in your wheel that engage when it's set to 200 degrees rotation and unlock when set to anything above 200. So when you start lfs, it opens your wheel profile and unlocks the wheel, when you close lfs, it closes the profile and then locks the wheel back to the default 200 degrees. You can keep the wheel unlocked by pressing and holding R3, Select, Right paddle. That way it doesn't lock and unlock every time you start lfs
if you are using a logitech wheel you can program a "ctrl+shift" macro onto one of your wheel buttons using the logitech profiler..so as long as you hold the button, it will display the persons username instead of their game name. And then if you wanted the usernames displayed all the time...just tape that button down...lol
Hey hey hey....don't forget about us (EAGLE)'s over here
And for the LOTF guys, if you haven't seen it already, we're hosting a 150 lap race on the oval with the f08 on Aug 27th. It's listed here:http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=11383
We got 10 grid positions that are still available. You should get some guys together and come race with us
You might want to check out www.SimFia.com. That's the offical site for anything dealing with the F1 or DTM leagues . I don't think Dygear checks this forum anymore.
i really wish the admins or the devs would lock these topics as soon as they came up. Every week there is a new discussion(well, high school type argument is more like it) about drifting. It's starting to get old. The same thing, over and over again. Some people demanding that LFS needs to cater to drifters and others flaming them for it. Then everyone thinks that they know everything there is to know about drifting and wants to tell the entire world. If you want to drift, that's fine...if you don't want to drift...that's fine. I really don't see the problem here.
Now, notice that i've kept this post nice and clean. I didn't insult anyone or anything. But i can almost guarantee you that i will get all kinds of people trying to flame me. Because that is what happens in these types of topics.
Just remember, slow in, fast out. You don't want to go screaming into a corner just to be ahead of someone and then having to stay on the brakes halfway through the corner. You should be off the brakes before you turn in. (Unless you trailbrake, like me) Because the sooner you get off the brakes, the sooner you can get back on the gas, 99% of corners are all about exit speed. Because that is where you make up a lot of time, on the straights between corners. And the faster you can exit the first corner, the faster you can go down the straight .
And good call with the tire temps! I totally forgot to mention that
Exactly, one of the tricks i used when got started in making sets was to create a new set(like FunnyBone said) and then just take one of the settings and max it out. Then go drive around for a little and see what effect it has on the car. Then put that one back to default and max out something else, etc., etc. This way it is very obvious as to what a setting does to the handling of the car. Then once you understand what each setting actually does, you can go in and start making small adjustments to suit your driving style.
You can read about setups until your nose bleeds and your face turns purple, but you won't fully understand it until you actually play around with it.
I'll be happy to help out with anything if i see you on the track. I like it when newcomers ask legitimate questions about improving their skills. Newcomers i will gladly help. Noobs(the setup demanders, the 1st turn crashers, etc.) are the ones i will not help, simply because they expect everyone else to do the hard work.
i like the idea of having to wait until the next race to join after you destroy your car. But i don't like the idea of keeping that crashed car on the track. I would like to see what GT Legends does. If you hit "Esc" (which is the equivelent of "Shift+S") for any reason during a race, you are not allowed to join again until the next race starts. In LFS, i think it would encourage people to drive cleaner and also stop people from pitting-out at random times and trying to race with the leaders who are 10 laps ahead of them.
