Quote from Intrepid :
I think the guy commentating from Force India said they now look like proper race cars again... well... no they don't. They look stupid! They look like a kids interpretation of an F1 car where they can't quite get the proportions correct.

You could not be more wrong. Getting rid of the winglets does indeed make them look more like traditional race cars and less like space ships.

As for the the "correct" proportions, they are set out in the regulations, which have changed this year. A race car's purpose is to be as fast as possible within the regulations, so the only way it could possibly look "stupid" is if it a) doesn't follow the regs, or b) isn't fast.

it's definitely going to be interesting.

my money is on button winning by a huge margin, with the 2 ferarri's 2nd and 3rd, then another big gap back to a 3-way scrap between alonso and the two bmw's. everyone else will have a miserable day and there will be lots of cursing and kicking things in the pit lane.

after pondering for a bit about the difference in balance you experience between the BFG's and the Pirelli's, i think it might be a temperature issue which can be resolved by experimenting with the tire pressures.

i'm guessing that either one end is running warmer than the other, and the tires have different sweet spots for temp, which happen to give the BFG's a lot of grip at whatever temp your fronts are running and the Pirelli's a lot of grip at whatever temp your rears are running, OR, it's also possible that the differing sidewall construction of the tires is causing one to be more sensitive to the extra camber in the front.

either way, i'd suggest you get a pyrometer (if you don't already have one) and measure your tire temps under as controlled conditions as you can, then use those as a guide to adjust your tire pressures towards the balance you want.

Quote from danthebangerboy :A little uncalled for perhaps??

Everyone makes mistakes, plus anyone who says that they have never ever had encounters with viruses/adware/malware are probably lying anyway!

Give jordan a break.

none of my computers have been infected with any malware, ever. i run an adware checker once in a while, but i've never bothered with anti-virus software because it gets in the way. my current computer is almost 5 years old and i've never had a problem and never had to reinstall windows.

first rule: never trust anything.

it's not rocket science, but that's all you need. if you get infected it's because you broke the first rule at some point.

Quote from micromental :i have got a question im so confused

is there away that you can change the color of your tyers without useing lfs tweak and stuff like weres the file in the data ??

first you have to change the colour of the smoke, and then do a brake stand in reverse gear and the tires will change to the same colour.

most of the guys i know who race sports cars use Toyo R compound tires (which are semi-slicks).

whatever the reason for the delay, it's starting to get lame.

i've always been sympathetic to the cause, and supportive of the devs choice to work to quality goals, and not to deadlines, but the development of LFS has ground to a halt and i don't think they are being very honest about the situation.

it's sad.

Quote from DevilDare :Its lovely to see how everyone all of a sudden starts to support "Honda" Brawn GP because they are quick. Just shows that people support teams not because they like them but because they can go around "yay i support a team thats quick!"

oh the horror! supporting RACING teams who are quick: what an injustice!

i'm saying that if he'd been realistic about who he was racing, he wouldn't have put himself in a position where cutting the track was his only option.

fair or not fair, hamilton needs to realize that he's not in GP2 anymore, and that the world champion is going to defend his line, even if he does get outbraked on the outside, and the fact that he lifted for a moment doesn't absolve him of breaking the rules. he had 3 choices, tuck in before the chicane, tuck in after he realized he was being squeezed out, or cut the chicane, and he chose wrong. furthermore, he should feel lucky he didn't get an additional penalty for the weaving he did between eau rouge and les combes immediately after. that was downright dangerous.

and don't forget that in most cars the fuel tank is not centered between the axles, so a heavy fuel load will tend to change the balance of the car somewhat (and the balance will also change as the race progresses and fuel is burned off), so adjust the suspension based on approx half of what your starting fuel load will be.

also, when making adjustments, don't just drive one lap and then pit, drive 5 or 10 between tweaks to give you a good feeling for how the tires are working over longer periods.

Quote from scipy :Ok. Conclusion. Pressure set in the pits is "cold" pressure, and when the tire warms up 20-30°C the pressure obviously rises but not by a lot - is there any way to actually know the value of the pressure at a certain tire temp? I mean other than guestimating or "ideal case" thermodynamics. I would like to know how LFS handles pressure changes - anything other than that is an exercise in futility.

you are trying to outsmart yourself.

the pressure you set in the pits is what the tire will have when it's at optimum temp, so it will actually be lower when you first hit the track, and given that the tires have a fixed volume, the calculation of pressure vs temperature is dead simple. no fancy pants required.

XRR does like to hang the back end out, but i find it very progressive, controllable and fun, unlike the FZR, which has more of a snap oversteer that really punishes you if you aren't careful.

and of course the FXR you can drive with your eyes closed.

this car is a joke. anybody who needs so many computer gadgets in their car doesn't need so much power, and vice versa. it's for people with too much money, no skill, and no taste.

they are making major aero changes next year, taking away winglets and such, but it doesn't necissarily mean that the new cars will look good again. i've heard that in an effort to achieve good aerodynamics under the new rules, some of the cars will be very, very ugly, or at least strange compared to what we are used to. progress only goes forward, not back.

FXR @ AS3
LFSW - PB for efexas16 on AS3 FXR : 1:41.000
LFSW - Split1 0:43.380

A 43.38 split is impossible with any of the GTR's.

lol. 1.5 seconds ahead of the WR at the split (read at the end of a long straight), but about even with WR at the end of the lap. turning and braking ftw! cheating ftl!

i only have 2 pedals, so i use button clutch. launching from a dead stop i bring the revs about half way to the red line, then give nearly full throttle as i pop the clutch. the tires usually spin a bit, but the most clutch heat i ever see is one or two pixels of orange.

if i had a 3rd pedal i would probably still launch in a similar way. there has to be some slipping, somewhere, and erring on the side of spinning the tires will definitely save the clutch.

those temps don't really look that bad to me. it's normal for the tires to go through a hot phase that lasts 2-3 laps, and then to start to cool down. if you baby the tires for the first 5 laps or so you should be able to push harder for the rest of the race.

Quote from diablo21 :If he does his job right I doubt he has to worry about toyota's, red bull's or renault's. If he keeps going like bahrain's race... we'll yes. But that is not probable.

isn't it? if you look at the last few races of 2007, and the first few of this year, he's noobed himself almost half the time.

haven't tried the setups, but just looking at the numbers... harder compound, with more pressure and a lot less camber; of course the car has less grip.

if i were you, i would go back to the original set, but switch to R3's and drop the pressure to 100 or so and see how that goes.
