Quote from NightShift :That's understood, I was thinking something analytical (ala VHPA) or .raf files analysis, maybe looking at slip ratio or torque at the wheels? I'm not on windows now and can't remember exactly what data is available.

ya, well it should be possible to calc out, based on the tractive force of the tires and the leverage they apply to the axle (which depends on the diameter of the wheels) but is the data really that useful? somebody who wants a "psuedo locked" diff doesn't need to hit the threshold exactly, they can just go way past it and get the same effect.

are you trying to create a rule for your league or something? (ie, no locked diffs, and no lsd's with too much preload)

Quote from NightShift :So the LSD is 100% locked as long as the torque difference is less than the preload?

And how do you calculate the 'critical' preload value that turns the diff into a locked one? in LFS?

Our torches and pitchforks can't be misled so easily

the threshold will depend on the size of the tires and the amount of grip they are getting, among other things, but it's felt easily enough in a test drive to find by trial and error. set your locking factors low and work your way up from a low initial preload setting. when the preload crosses the threshold the inside tire will not be able to exert enough force on the diff to cause it to slip, so it will slip against the road instead, causing an obvious change in handling.

Quote from NoFear1989 :I want better Porsche back
http://www.ddavid.com/formula1/images/por3.jpg yes this is it Porsche F1 car. (but not offical)

Porsche will never be in F1; they are philosophically opposed to putting effort into racing series that don't contribute to the development of their road cars. As much as I'd love to see them destroy the competition, I respect their choice to stay out of the circus.

Quote from tristancliffe :But the little competition to get the next F1 thread in first is just stupid. I say lets have the same person each time (to avoid the moronic competition), and if you have ever made a thread early to beat others then you are excempt from being the new creator.

Who was it who made the decent last one? Let's use him.

if competition is stupid, then he who is the least competitive wins.

ready, set, don't care.

technically, ∞+1 = ∞, so it is possible, just redundant.

Quote from S14 DRIFT :One's fully locked all the time, the other is up to 80% locked and has adjustable coast locking.

if the preload is high enough, the locking factors are irrelevant, and it will act just like a locked diff.

maybe that idea from Montreal isn't such a bad one?

all the tracks that Bernie has screwed over with his personal agenda's should get together and form a racing series of their own..

magny-cours, indianapolis, montreal, silverstone...

Quote from Intrepid :He's certainly close if not there already. However I see some testing times for Vettel in the future. I don't think his ability will ever wain but I am sure people's perception of him will

I haven't yet seen anything from him that suggests he is becoming what people percieve as 'arrogant' (perception not reality) but once all this goodwill fakery we are seeing in F1 atm dissapears as the championship progresses, we will see a more hard nosed Vettel.

I certainly see slight conflict in Vettel's racing. Australia was a good example as to where his mind is. He was indecisive when being overtaken by Kubica and then the radio broadcasts. This to me has to change if he is to fulfil his potential. Once it does and he starts to race on-track proper he could be a stunning prospect for muiltiple world titles but at the detriment to his paddock popularity. Just look at Hamilton!

wow. vettel can't be as good as hamilton until he starts acting like a twat? rationalize away the faults of your hero much?

they have a crap car this year, but ferrari are the only team who have two drivers who are both capable of winning races.

i guess red bull would come second on my list. webber can't keep up to his jr teammate, but at least it's not by an embarrassing margin.

beyond that, renault and mclaren only have one good driver each, and the other teams are filled entirely by noobs and over the hill geezers.

No!

it's obvious the devs don't care if people moan or not.

Quote from Intrepid :HHmm... having sat infront of both Lewis and Anthony while they gave a rare dual interview you couldn't be more wrong.

Of course what they said didn't get presented in the tabloids etc... because wasn't interesting enough for their target audience. But if you dig a little deeper and not use unrelible media outlets to dictate your opinion you might find some more genuinely interesting stuff... and that goes for ALL drivers.

NEWSFLASH -Drivers may not be as the main media outlets present them to be!

omfg! you sat in front of Lewis? did you get to touch him? was it your dream come true?

Quote from Mackie The Staggie :
2) Is it time Lewis's father steps back and allows his son to take charge of his career. The fact that it seems to be comon knowldge that Anthony went looking for Max Mosely to discuss the possibility of switching teams halfway through the season is almost beyond parody.

almost?

it IS a joke. anthony has a serious problem with trying to live out his aspirations through his son, and as much as i think lewis is a twat, i have to be sympathetic given the upbringing he must have had. if he's never been allowed to think for himself before, of course he is going to make mistakes when he is forced to do so in a pressure situation.

my FXR set does 10.49, but contrary to Bob's advise, i'm using soft and tall suspension in the rear for grip, but a lot of forward rake (hard and low in the front) to keep the weight shift from going too far to the rear. maybe i'll try it his way and see if i can go any faster.

one other thing is tires... you'd think that low tire pressure would yield the best grip off the line, but it seems like the reduced rolling resistance that comes with higher pressures has a greater impact on overall time.

in F1 the purpose of the safety car is to screw up the pit strategy of whichever team the FIA doesn't want to win that day.

Quote from Kalev EST :Why? They don't break any written rules. Those teams that haven't got one should stop whining because they weren't smart enough to think of it.

feh. after all the controversy and pentalties last year, all the big teams were very careful to follow the rules in the design of their new cars, but a bunch of the lesser teams were allowed to exploit a loop hole in the rules.

i'm sure that all the teams who don't have one will develop one soon (except red bull, who can't because of their rear suspension design), but it's still quite obvious that the FIA fixed this race in order to generate more interest. let's face it, the general public was bored by the ferrari vs mclaren rivalry, and the FIA wanted to spice things up.

FIA MAKE ME SICK!!

unbelievable the defusers of brawn and co were not disallowed.

unbelievable barrichello was not penalized for the T1 crash.

unbelievable bungling of the safety car after nakajima's crash (should have come out 2 laps sooner).

the only explanation is that FIA figured that by handing the race to Brawn they could generate more interest/coverage/money.

when i share my sets with people they often complain that they are "too bouncy", yet when i drive their sets i think to myself, "feels about as responsive as a dead hooker".

i don't know if there is any real world use for an over-damped setup. maybe, just maybe, it might be useful for off road truck racing. those things get massive air, but stick like glue when they land, but even so, i don't know if you have to go over critical to get that behavior.

perhaps not, but it would give a whole new meaning to the term 'drag queen'.
