A really helpful feature for leagues could be for a fully customisable race weekend feature. This would be set up by league admins prior to the event, and would include details such as:
- points system that is used, thereby total points totals will be calculated at the conclusion at the event, therefore saving time for admins who otherwise have to calculate points tallies manually
- qual format (e.g. one-lap, timed session, f1-style qual), number of races, number of laps in each race, reverse grid races, rolling or standing starts, etc
- the name of the event, round number etc, which would be saved on LFSWorld
Almost limitless options could be included here, making an event fully customisable.
Hmm not sure what beta drivers are But one thing I forgot to mention is that I recently replaced some of the dds files with high-resolution ones. Could just be a coincidence though.
Anyway, after experiencing the same issues but online (as opposed to just in replays) I reverted to Patch V and didn't experience any issues. I will try V8 in a sec and report my findings ..
Yay drivers 1 lap behind will have a grey pointer on the map ! Such a small thing but soooo useful !!
Physics
+ wheel-to-wheel crash physics. think of geoff crammond's grand prix 2 and 3. whenever two open wheel cars touch wheels, there should be a strong possibility of one or both of these cars being launched into the air. at the moment, when racing open wheelers, crash physics reflect racing in tin tops. iirc open wheelers are not known for trading paint :P
LFSWorld
... in addition to downloadable driver suits (already in list), people should be able to upload/download gloves and driver faces. the latter option would necessitate transparent helmet visors. i think it would be cool to be able to apply a pic of your own face to your driver
+ should be able to choose whether to automatically download a combination of car skin/helmet/driver suit/gloves/face. a system of tick boxes would work well here
I posted these earlier but can't find them on the list. Please let me know if you don't think these are good ideas.
Loaded a MPR, changed view from TV to my custom 'T-Bar' view, cycled through a few cars before leaving my keyboard alone.
Shortly after LFS froze and the sound started looping. After about 5-10 seconds the replay continued. This happened about three times, however the replay did not continue after the third time. The looping went for about 15 seconds .. meanwhile I was pressing the Windows button and CTRL + ALT + DEL. After this time, I was presented with a blue screen (no text) and had to reboot my laptop. At least this time I didn't have to use my recovery cd to get back into Windows
Is there any more information I can provide to help?
I have run LFS without any issues (until now) on my COMPAQ Presario B3800 laptop since 2005.
CPU: Intel Centrino 1.7GHz
GRAPHICS CARD: ATI Mobility Radeon 9700
DRIVERS VERSION: 6.14.10.6458 (does that seem right?)
The following is a summary of the issues I have been experiencing with LFS lately (I haven't tried any replays since .. I'm too scared to :P).
MULTI-PLAYER REPLAYS -
Since I can't remember when (sorry, though it is definitely in V5) I have been experiencing a critical issue when playing Multi-Player replays. Basically, when I attempt to view a replay the
game will freeze (no movement on the screen, sound loop). This happens sporadically, and typically when I change the view or cycle through drivers.
I can't exit to my desktop at all despite pressing the Windows key and CTRL, ALT + DEL. Also, I
generally see significant stutter and hear sound looping even when the game does not freeze. At the moment I am unable to view more than about a minute of this replay before I have to restart my laptop: http://mondaynightracing.com/s ... 007/f8f/r10/f8f-r10-3.mpr (this one was saved by another player).
SINGLE-PLAYER REPLAYS -
I downloaded Bugle's WR lap at SO Long Rev in the FO8 and got about half way into it when the screen froze then became completely blue. Upon restarting my computer I was informed that a Windows system file was either corrupt or missing. Had to use my recovery CD to get back into Windows.
I'm not sure if this is a patch V5 thing or just my laptop. I had been downloading and installing various files from lfs-database. Could be a coincidence, but I thought it would be worthwhile reporting this just in case it isn't.
ANOTHER ISSUE I JUST REMEMBERED -
Again since I can't remember when, possibly the V patches, the game sometimes goes to a black screen and freezes when, in windowed mode, I hit pause then SHIFT+4 (to get into full screen mode).

Sounds are fantastic !! Well done DaveWS, a great effort

After checking out the latest test patch (V2) and using the CTRL+S function to take screenshots, I thought it would be a good idea to have a similar function but for recording video. I know I could use Fraps, but I'd rather use LFS !! Capture settings could be modified in the menu.
+1 ?

Just checked the list and noticed a few things I'd suggested some time ago (when the forum was hosted at RSC I think) that aren't there

Devs, thanks for all of your hard work from U to V. I have followed all the test patches and have very much enjoyed what I've seen (and heard). The sounds are certainly going in the right direction and the other fixes are very nice.
It's good that you've been able to tick off so many little things from your list .. eg Vista compatibility. I look forward to the release of S2 full and can't wait for the next major improvements.
Sorry, I should make myself more clear. I meant that the .exe doesn't just notify you if there's a patch, it actually gives you the option to download the patch. So basically this would allow you to download and install the patch before even opening LFS.
The way I see it, you open the .exe and it connects to the master server solely to work out if a new patch is available. If there is no new patch, you will be informed that you're using the latest version. If there is a patch, you will have the option to automatically download and install it. Then, depending on your settings, you will either click on the 'Start LFS' button or LFS will launch automatically. The .exe will close before the actual game .exe opens. There would also be an 'Exit' and 'Start LFS' button on the screen most of the time (all the time except for when the patch is downloading).
Does that explain it better?
Edit: Thought I should mention this again - this updater .exe would complement the current updating system. They would co-exist.
LFS updater is a good feature, but I'd like an additional EXE which has a sole purpose of checking/installing updates. It just seems like a lot of dicking around starting up LFS, downloading the patch, being thrown out of LFS, then waiting for LFS to restart. Or maybe I'm just lazy .
An independent 'LFS Updater' EXE would not require much RAM at all to run, so users wouldn't have to wait at the loading screen twice just to install a patch. This EXE would complement the existing system, not replace it.
Also, because I'm quite busy at the moment with my 'real' work, I will currently only play LFS when I know there is an update. Being able to quickly check when I turn on my computer in the morning will let me know if I can get straight into my work or whether I will become a slave to LFS for an hour
