How about a multiple choice exam. 35 questions, 30 correct to pass then view some clips to test your hazard perception... oh wait..no, never mind.

Joking aside, I'm strongly against any sort of unlocking system. It's merely an annoyance, like others have said, I'll just wait for a 100% unlocked savegame or something.

Although, I do support allowing restriction of servers by PB times solely because I've seen it work so well in leagues.

Just playing devil's advocate here, but surely I could unlock the game on as many pc's as I wanted (albeit 2 a month). The deterrent is the fact that no two pc's using the same account can be online at the same time. So I don't see how a login instead of an unlock is bad. If someone wants to share the account, unlocks will undoubtedly slow them down; but is it worth all the problems that come with running out of unlocks (formats, test patches, etc)?

I personally don't have a problem with the current system, I've never run out of unlocks. I've only unlocked the game twice, once at the beginning and once for a test patch. Just wondering why the system is as it is.

I'm against unlockables, I hate any game that forces you to unlock stuff. I must admit the variety of cars and tracks available on LFS once you're licensed is rather overwhelming but you soon find something suited to you (9 times out of 10 it's the FOX on AS Club ).

I've nothing against a career mode if it was optional and doesn't become standard among servers, which I fear it will. The whole earning money, buying, selling etc just makes it too serious and takes the fun out of it, well for me anyways. I wouldn't like having to do cashflow projections and calculate break even points just to have a few races. Setting the car up properly is challenging enough .

In LFS your career is basically your pace on combos. You're always trying to get closer to the WR for a combo, so that should be the basis of any career aspect implemented in LFS. There's a thread somewhere where I suggested servers should restrict entry based on PB's. That would add a career mode of sorts wouldn't it? As you get faster you gain access to the 'elite' servers, but can practice and progress on the 'noob' servers with people of similar pace.

Ranking of some sort is a good idea, but i'd steer clear of using one figure to sum up a driver.

I think PB restrictions on servers might work. Ordering grids by PB worked wonders in the OWRL, some of the best and closest racing I've had. PB restrictions should obviously work both ways keeping slow drivers off fast servers and fast drivers off slow servers .

I believe LFS uses some kind of rating when you host a server, OK, QUICK, PRO, etc. Perhaps, that can be extended to WR+1, WR+2, etc only allowing racers on that have an appropriate PB. Since LFSW is already there why not use the stats there as a licensing system of sorts.

Most will argue that the only way you become fast is by racing other fast drivers. I agree with that but at times I'd like close competitive racing, not lapping alone on a server full of drivers out of my league .

Any type of time limitation on software can easily be exploited. I think the setup LFS has now is perfect. Although I think having a single seater in the demo would give better coverage of the game. Didn't know I'd love the FOX so much while demo, so it was a nice surprise when I went S2 .

Harmless suggestion but pointless in my opinion. I used to think like this, forcing people to use the same setup would be a better judge of a driver's ability. Even though I still find it difficult to make decent setups from scratch I totally disagree with that now.

I used to ask for setups from fast drivers and struggle to do decent times with them, scratching my head thinking what am I doing wrong. Then I realise their style is totally different to mine, theres no point using their setup. I can never drive like they do, it's not my style.

I don't see forced setup servers/leagues being popular among anything but absolute beginners to LFS. As others have said, forcing a setup will not level the field, because some might like the setup and some might not. That doesn't mean those that don't like the setup are bad drivers.

Had a quick go in the XFG and I also don't like the new sound system. It makes me feel like its pressurized inside the cockpit or something, I'm frantically trying to wind down a window :P. The whining sound made me chuckle, sounds like I'm going to take off any second. Maybe this is how race cars sound in reality from inside the cockpit, but all I know is it started giving me a headache.

Quote from [RCG]Boosted :id like to see an option that the host can setup the cars with extraweight so its even.
but not in general, all time.

Seems to me like the simplest solution. A slider on your setup screen for adding weight to your car. The amount of weight added will show up next to your car choice for verification, ie FZR(50) for an FZR with 50kg ballast. That way leagues can balance cars as they see fit.

Very nice tool. I'm quite intrigued as to how it decides what to show . I used one of my own replays and I don't think it missed anything interesting done by me. Looking forward to an all tracks version, keep it up .

I don't like the idea of forcing people to use X,Y or Z. I'd be happy to see some sort of recognition in the userlist of people running in 'hardcore' mode so they can differentiate themselves form the 'softcore' people , but that's as far as I'd go. Being 'hardcore' should be an option not an obligation.

This is where I have a small quibble with the map system in LFS. Theres no way of knowing at a glance (as far as I know) if the guy catching up behind you is for position or a backmarker trying to unlap himself. If it's the latter I'd ease off a bit and let him pass. It's not worth risking my race. If, by some miracle, he makes it all the way through the field and ends up behind me again, I'll fight him then.

Same arguement goes for not being able to tell if the car in front is a leader or for position. Becky Rose's LFS Companion goes some way in giving you this information, but I'd still like to see it conveyed on the track map.

If I'm a backmarker with significantly better pace than a leader, I just hope I'll be let through. If the leader puts up a fight I just back off.

An intro video needs to be a summary of the game content, as that's constantly changing making one now is really a waste of time. You'd have to keep redoing it as new stuff gets added to the game.

Quote from thisnameistaken :Quick straw poll: Did everybody, when first encountering the LFS pit stop fuel worky-outy thing, think that you were setting the amount of fuel to add to the tank? I know I did. The current system just doesn't seem intuitive.

Yep! Was a short race, needed 21.6% from start to finish according to F12. Just to practice pit stopping and setting fuel loads via F12 I started with about 15% thinking I'll pit around halfway and add another 10%. But I had to pit early due to an accident. I thought the 10% would be added on top of what was left so I could finish the race. Funnily, the pit stop timing was such that I ran out of fuel on the uphill bit before the line on BLGP on the last lap . It's definitely not intuitive.

If I'm forced to come in early on a one-stop strategy I have to recalculate the F12 setting to finish the race. Whereas if it's 'add x' it doesn't matter when I come in, I don't have to change anything. I don't see any benefit of using 'fill to x', maybe it's just the way my heads wired

I don't have a problem with using percent or litres or pints , but I agree with sinbad that percentages can be ambiguous.

Quote from dev :Suggestion two: -1, to confusing.. would it fill up 50% of the whole tank or 50% of the space you have in the tank?

I think it should fill up percentage of tank capacity, so if you have 25% left in tank and fill up 30%, you tank will be 55% full.

Although I agree, a much simpler solution is to work in litres.

Although I'd like to be able to define focus points, so I can set where I want to be looking when I press a particular button. Maybe this can be extended so you can store a couple (more than the three available now) of focus points for each car.

I'll most likely get one even though I only got my DFP a few months ago. At £110 I'd get one right now . Even at £200-ish it seems a somewhat reasonable price for the immersion you'd get. If it's a tradeoff between competitiveness and immersion, the latter always wins for me.

I'd recommend trying to get a DFP if at all possible. A tad more expensive but I think it's worth it. I was weary of all the hype around it when I bought it but it has turned out to be one of the best purchases I made (and now I'm adding to the hype :P)

I had a Thrustmaster Forcefeedback wheel before the DFP. It was ok and I assume the one you've shown would be similar. But I can't imagine racing with anything but a DFP anymore (maybe the G25 ). Sorry if I sound like someone from Logitech's marketing department , but the DFP is definitely worth the money.

Took me a while to understand the F12 menu and what it meant by fuel load at pit stop. I assumed the percentage (percentage of tank capacity) was what was added on top of what's already in the tank, seemed like the logical thing to do. Only to find it fills the tank upto that percentage and I ran out of fuel a few yards before the line.

The system in place now is counter intuitive. You're more likely to say 'add x amount to my tank' than 'fill my tank upto x amount'. The latter requires unnecessary calculations.

Hi,

I'm trying to improve my times on FOX@BLGP. I've made some steady progress going from high 1.10s to a pb of 1.08.74. I feel I can go faster and I know where I'm losing out most. I can't get through T1 and the following chicane fast enough, but I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I'm losing a few tenths there. Hopefully someone will be kind enough to analyze the replay and give me some tips. Any setup advice would be welcome as well.

Thanks.

Quote from spankmeyer :And once again, this has shit to do with general discussion about Live for Speed. Either unofficial addons or off-topic please. Yeah I ain't a mod but wake up and smell the coffee, think a second before making threads like these please.

It's not an addon because it's not adding anything to the game nor is it off topic because it is a general discussion about playing LFS using a different set of rules. So I feel General Discussion is where the thread belongs. I'd suggest you 'think' before assuming someone else hasn't.

Quote from CSU1 :C&R is for kids LFS should not be used as a playtoy.

You're taking it too seriously, it's just meant to be a bit of fun. A distraction from normal racing.
