In effect it's basically because people say "ooooh event on <insert day> at <insert time> with <insert car> - that sounds like fun, I'll sign up!" but then forget about it and/or lose interest very quickly. It happens with ALL series to some extent, but I've not seen it quite as bad as it was today, especially as it's only Round 2

Quote from Seb66 :You'd be surprised how much of a difference a bit of tyre heat helps in those karts, after say 20+ laps you really start to get some good grip and stability. In this case though, it really depends how long the karts were sitting still before the next group jumped in, since they will wont hold any core temperature at all, since they are some shitty 'duro' make tyres.

Even I could tell that there was quite a difference in grip between my qualifying session (second session) and my race (eighth session). It didn't help that it was bloody freezing on track itself, so the track temperature can't have been very high at all. I was cold even in my race suit

For the race the top 6 were sat in their karts at the exit of the pit lane for the last 5 mins of the race, then positions 7-10 got karts fresh from the previous race. I'm good at these racing driver excuses

Quote from Seb66 :The main advantage is usually what chassis you are on, even though they're all technically the same.. in the fleet of 16ish karts at Cardiff (same karts as in that onboard vid) I can guarantee that all of them feel so different to each other. I can probably go about 1 second quicker in the best handling kart than the worse handling one. The power in each engine is pretty similar, depends on your weight mostly anyways.

Apparently the Bristol ones are pretty new (obvs don't know about the Cardiff ones, altho apparently we might be going there soon :tilt so there doesn't seem to have been to much difference in the ones I've driven certainly in terms of outright lap time, but there's definitely some with interesting characteristics - the one I drove in the Round 1 race just drifted everywhere

Quote from Seb66 :That's Teamsport Bristol right? I had to go there for some shitey training day.. fun track, the change in floor coming off the bridge onto the shiney concrete is.... fun

Yep

I think we were one of the first groups there on Weds so everything was incredibly slippery to start with, luckily the A Final was the last race so everything had warmed up quite a bit by then

That's in Boothy-Land, I thought the servers were based somewhere down south?

Haha yeah he said Button got overtaken by a 14 year old - suppose he has a slight weight advantage

zomg it's Jackson in a racing video!

No, the helmet cam guy isn't me, I can't afford it

Basically this is Round 4 of our internal uni karting championship. By some minor miracle I managed to qualify 4th/39 and so got into the A Final, despite only been karting twice ever in my life and once on this track. And the only people who beat me were the society president, a dude who spent Tuesday Night racing against Jenson Button (no jokes!) and a guy who races a Ferrari. 5th, 6th and 7th are all on the karting team :P

So anyways, the actual video is here. I'm starting dead infront of the camera guy, black helmet with the orange lapels. If that's a bit hard to see (and you really care) skip forward to 2:50 and I'm the guy overtaking the dude at the front of the train for 3rd place at the hairpin. Stayed there for a bit but then I got overtaken a bit later on, then started an "Atkinson train" for most of the race trying desperately to, but miserably failing to defend 4th Eventually finished 7th, which isn't bad really, hoping for a similar result next time out

Stolen off FB, but it's worth it:

Quote :A little bit of Tevez out the door, a little bit of Vidic on the floor. A little bit Nasri on side, a little bit Rooney shooting wide. A little bit of Mario having a laugh, a little bit of Nani on his arse....Ladies and Gentlemen...Channel Number Five.

[Europa League is on Channel 5 in the UK, btw ]

Quote from MrMeier :Sorry, didn't see this part.. So it's the tweak that makes the error?

Yes. The replay file is just a list of "instructions", so if the car stats currently in the memory don't match the car stats of when you did the replay LFS gets confused.

Quote from Franky.S :

25 in base 10 (Dec) is the same number as 31 in base 8 (Oct)

In base 10, the "units" is the number of 10^0, the "tens" is the number of 10^1, the hundreds is the number of 10^2 and so on. So, for example, 745 is (7x10^2) + (4x10^1) + (5x10^0). In base 8 it's the same, but replace the 10s with 8s. So 31 in base 8 is (3x8^1) + (1x8^0)= 24+1 = 25 (in base 10, which is what we work in)

EDIT: Similar kind of thing to: "There's only 10 types of people in the world, those who understand binary [base 2], and those who don't."

Quote from Bmxtwins :wait so my quad core is basically useless for LFS?

Yes. LFS doesn't support hyper-threading (is that the right word?!!) so it just uses one core. But you could say that anything else running won't affect LFS as it can use the other cores.

Chris Wilkinson = wilko868
Jack Atkinson = me
Joe Ellis = JO53PHS

We have this joke that Ellis is gay, so when Wilko put his status as "Wow Ellis has finally plucked up the courage" I thought that he meant Joe had come out as gay, when actually he was referring to the owners of Sunderland FC who sacked their manager. And so Wilko was disappointed at this. :P

Sorry for the joke very few people will understand. :P
