Quote from ajp71 :There's no requirement for an F1 car to test in official FIA sanctioned F1 tests. They can be tested on private circuits (a la Ferrari), a circuit with full sanctioning in a non-FIA/national governing body sanctioned event, all trackdays, some general testing sessions. Or it can just be brought to any general testing session that will allow it, if you really wanted to you could test your latest F1 car each Wednesday morning at Mallory for £90.

Indeed. An F1 team can test pretty much anywhere they like, FIA be damned. Obviously though they would want to go somewhere reasonably safe. There are lots of possibilities in the eastern US:

Barber Motorsports Park (Alabama)
Mid-Ohio
Road America
VIR
Road Atlanta

Hell, they could even go to some short courses like Lime Rock Park or Roebling Road. It doesn't need to be as long as an average GP circuit to be a useful test site. And of course, they could use the infield sections of the many many speedways. Charlotte Motor Speedway would be the obvious choice there. And don't forget the already-existing F1-spec road course at Indy.

Quote from Modoff :marco andretti? The kid is a joke!!!

On what are you basing this assertion?

Quote from Modoff :There are 100 drivers in the US that have the money training and means to test for that seat that would blow the doors off Andretti.

Really? 100? OK, name them.

Something tells me that Mario and Michael Andretti will have a hand in this as a way to get Marco into F1. Marco is very talented and this might just be his chance to mix it with the big boys. This whole idea sounds very promising and I hope it works out, but it's way way too early to get one's hopes up.

Charlotte's only a couple hours from me; perhaps I'll drive down one day and ask if they need someone to mop the floors. That way I'll be able to tell chicks at the bar that I work for an F1 team.

Quote from pb32000 :Whoa what? Bottled beats canned.

Wrong.

Cans are better than bottles.

Light and air are the enemies of fresh beer. The advantage cans have is they're 100% guaranteed to not allow in light or air. Bottles are airtight too for the most part, but they let in light, even brown bottles. Green and clear beer bottles are even worse; beer should never be put in them.

Canning technology has improved and the days of metallic taste from a can are long gone.

Cans have a reputation for only containing cheap swill beer, but that is changing too. Quite a few craft breweries are canning now. You can get great beer in cans.

Quote from amp88 :1 imperial pint (the one we us ... e UK) is actually 568 mls.

That's a proper pint. Pisses me off to no end getting ripped off with girly, fancy-pants little "pints" around here.

A real pint is 20 imperial ounces. Not 16 American ounces. Not bloody 12 ounces, like I've gotten before. No wonder it was so cheap, it was barely a half-pint! A 12 oz beer glass is a worthless object and an affront to the proper beer experience.

I use drivername_trackcode, so when Amp88 sent me his FO8 set for KY GP Long, I gave it amp88_ky3. If it's a special set like a one-lap quali set or a spec set, it'd be called amp88_ky3QUAL or SPECamp88_ky3.

At first when I didn't know the track codes I'd use the whole title, but that got annoying especially with long track names (i.e. Chicane Route). Switching over helped me learn the track names better.

What the hell are the police supposed to do, give the deer a ticket for jaywalking?

Quote from amp88 :Yeah, that's how I thought it was...

It is. But the wording leaves open the option for the teams which did not win the previous year's championship to decide which of their drivers gets the lower number and which the higher.

Ferrari have yet to choose theirs. There's an internal struggle going on within the team between Kimi and Felipe to decide who will dominate the future. They can't continue being "equals" if either intends to have another shot at the WDC in 2009 and 2010.

I've thought about it for a while and knew this debate would come up soon, and it's very interesting that Ferrari recently said they won't decide until the first race. AFAIK the team has full discretion and can change it at will. Hell, they could decide it based on who qualifies higher in the first race in 2009. That would be epic.

Quote from DeadWolfBones :...but being underage and drinking isn't against the law. They can't charge you for anything.

As has already been pointed out, this largely isn't true. It depends on the local and state law, but here it's definitely illegal and you will be ticketed. It's bullshit of course, but it's what we get for allowing a few freedom-hating Puritan ****s to hijack the legal system and use it to force their warped, repressive morality on the public at large.

Quote from S14 DRIFT :That's most likely because he was a (rather high ranking?) cop and they decided to adjust the law of their own accord. (Typical American policy right there)

You've been embarassing yourself with your astounding lack of knowledge in this thread for a while. It's very clear you haven't the slightest idea what you're talking about, and should probably just shut the hell up.

Quote from Tezuka :13 hours and 52 minutes until the TF109 reveal

Toyota needs to revamp its image and become something unique and interesting. They're the generic Formula One team. Their livery and corporate colors, and the whole feel of the team really, are bland and uninspiring. Trulli and Glock are OK guys, but c'mon, who is a diehard Toyota fan? It's just a faceless corporate monolith with no character or passion. This also seems to extend to the design philosphy and engineering of their car, which would explain their lack of success relative to their budget.

They've kept the same paint scheme on their car for years, and it was crap to start with. They should go with something outrageous (by their standards anyway) so they at least stand out a little. Make it clear that they're evolving and intend to really step up in '09. Kinda like what Honda did in 2007 with it's Earth car thing, except y'know, good.

Quote from duke_toaster :Or just a spec mirror, which would be pretty sensible. As for starter motors, they are harder things to fit than thought (IIRC).

That's what the word 'spec' means.

I'm sure they can manage fitting a starter motor. They can fit KERS. Standardize it and extend the maximum dimensions of the car enough to make space for it.

The mirrors look terrible.

I don't understand why the FIA haven't mandated a standard size, shape, and mounting point for the mirrors. And why they don't require a starter motor.

Quote from PLAYLIFE :Had he allowed the race to continue

Prost wasn't the race marshal. His waving on the pit straight did nothing to convince anyone to stop the race.

Quote from PLAYLIFE :let Senna and assuming he would have then finished second (collecting 6 points) he would have won the championship by 1 point.

If he had let Senna past and the race had gone on, he would also have been passed by Bellof who was even faster than Senna. Two less points, no WDC.

You don't need the CD. You rarely need the driver disc/disk for hardware anymore. Usually it's out of-date anyway and there's a newer version available online.

Go to the Logitech website and download drivers from there.

Oh and wrong forum.
