Don't buy a Dell. Do some research and determine exactly which parts you need. Find out the best brands and models for each part and buy them all from an online store. Ship them to your house, then take them all to a computer shop nearby and have them put it together for you and install the OS, drivers, etc. It'll cost you ~$100, but you'll get a much more powerful PC for the same price as Dell's proprietary bullshit.

Quote from March Hare :
This was the first time I have seen anyone do this on the CTRA servers.

Really? That's surprising; I see it regularly. I always do it myself unless the guy just sits in the grass pouting instead of rejoining.

What I encounter much more frequently on CTRA is two drivers who tap each other, both think it's their fault, so they both try to let each other past. They end up both going slow as hell and losing way more time than is necessary. Good sportsmanship though.

Quote from tristancliffe :Why would you listen to a radio on a track? It can only make you slower.

In real life it wouldn't make any sense, but I do it regularly in LFS. Good music (has to have the right beat for driving) playing gently in the background often helps me get in the zone more easily. I've set many of my PBs with tunes playing.

What's the rationale behind so few combos on SS1? Where's my FE Club? KY GP Long? FE Black? SO City Long? Aston National, Historic, or Grand Touring?

Some of those tracks are a bit on the dull side on the FOX (mostly flat-out), but they all offer great action when in a pack. Some new circuits would spice up SS1, I imagine.

I think part of the reason that their simulator isn't much of a help now is because the track has been resurfaced, so none of the teams have data for it. A sim is useful for learning very basic things (bend shape, approximate braking distances, etc) but minute characteristics like bumps and tarmac abrasiveness have to be learned in-person.

Quote from Toddshooter :Could you explain please? How does the sound card afect frame rate?
Thanks Toddshooter

A game with a lot of complex audio processing stresses the CPU more. The more audio processing the CPU does, the fewer cycles are left to do graphics processing. A higher-end sound card will have it's own processor to handle all the audio.

LFS has pretty tame audio (no 5.1 surround or EAX or anything like that), so a powerful sound card probably won't make an appreciable difference.

Who haven`t tried to brake when someone is hiting your ass all the time?

A whole lot of people. If you brake-check someone, which is trying to cause a crash, you're as much of a dick as he is and deserve to be punished for it just like him.

I started in the back half of the grid in the FOX at AS Club. 10 laps + pit. I avoided the first-lap carnage and was up to 6th or so. Steadily I worked my way up the order, pushing hard, until lap five when I was in 2nd place - a second or two behind the leader and catching him. My fuel strategy demanded that I pit at the end of lap six. Going into the final corner before pitting, he makes a small mistake so I am right on his tail ready to pick up a bit of tow before diving left. As I turn, so does he! We're pitting simultaneously. I'm well into his slipstream now, just a meter or so behind him, when he suddenly brakes well before it is required. Instantly I brake as hard as I can while steering right a little in order to avoid hitting him. I just manage to do so, but I barely put my right wheels on the grass while the car is not 'flat', which sends me reeling into him. We both spin backwards to a stop at the beginning of the pitlane, the field streaming past. We both give it a bootful to spin around and take up pit boxes near each other. I press my "Sorry mate" key as we light up the tires to leave at the same time, and we sail right past 80kph because in the confusion we both forgot to engage the pitlane speed limiter! :banghead:

We both shamefully Shift+S and sit out the rest of the race. I left the server to put on my dunce hat and stand in the corner. :dunce:

No offense, but this piece is not very good. Just in the first paragraph there are numerous spelling and grammar errors. You have several sentence fragments, at least ten instances of a punctuation mark where it shouldn't be or lack thereof when one is needed, and at least four unnecessary hyphens. You skip a space between paragraphs and they seem to have been decided upon randomly. A new paragraph indicates a slight shift in the topic or someone new speaking. There are more spelling errors and awkward sentences in the later paragraphs, too.

C-

The story itself is decent, but serious editing is needed.

Quote from Blackout :I wouldn't give much value on irishnoob's opinion to be honest.

QFT.

Listen to ajp71. I wouldn't bother trying to get the LFS experience (good wheel, realistic simulation) on a console. Get a console to go in a completely different gaming direction (first-person shooters, RPGs, etc.) and drive LFS when you want to race.

Bump. I'd really like to able to filter out cruise/drift servers. Nothing against them; they paid for their license and can do with it what they please. I just don't care for them personally and would like the ability to customize the filters so that refreshing doesn't take as long.

Oh, and props to the similar threads feature that pops up when creating a new thread title. It showed me this thread even after I spent time searching manually so I didn't have to create a new, redundant thread.

Need to solve the 1st chicane cos if I turn in any later and don't ease off the throttle, Im onto the grass.

The world record holder seems to turn the wheel a lot but I would spin if i done that.

Yeah I had trouble with that chicane when I first started out. I was lifting a lot, but it seemed as though if I went any faster I'd be in the grass at the second apex or hit the wall on the exit. However, it's actually quite easy once you learn the correct line. You have to learn to be confident in the FOX - don't be afraid to just throw it in there. It holds the road beautifully and rewards confident driving.

Turn in rather sharply right where the tarmac changes color, with the intent to just touch the first apex kerb with your left-front tire. If you do that, you're in the perfect position for the exit. Get the entry right and the exit just comes naturally.

Quote from DarkTimes :He lifts off, yes, but he doesn't start braking until much later. Really he should be braking at the point he is lifting, instead of letting the car roll for 25 meters.

Ah, gotcha. Since the latest patch my throttle/brake indicator is missing. What's the command for that?

You're braking way, way too early for T1. The braking point is ~50m, you lifted off before the 100m board.

Get onto the brakes hard. You're taking multiple seconds to transition from full throttle to full brake, which in this car should be almost instant. It's very stable under braking.

Shift down faster to help the car slow down more. Get your downshifts out of the way earlier - you hit the apex in 3rd and didn't shift into 2nd until after the apex, when you should already be on the power. Hold the apex longer at T1 so you get a nice smooth exit.

The chicanes are flat out. No downshift, no lift, nothing. Your minimum speed through the first chicane went all the way down to the 160kph range when it should be in the 180s. The fastest guys can keep their speed around 190 through that chicane. You're also turning in too early. Use the tarmac color change as your turn-in guide.

You didn't use a lot of track at the second hairpin. The wider you make the bend, the more speed you can carry through it.

Time your gearshifts better. My setup for AS Club shifts into 6th at 196kph normally. Always 196. Sometimes you'd wait until almost 200kph before shifting and another time you shifted before 190. That costs you time all the way down the straight.

The braking zones seem to be your weakest point. You're simply not hard enough on the brakes and you're taking way too long to blend your phases (i.e. braking and turning in) together. You should be shifting into 2nd as you start to turn in. Apply a bit of throttle to maintain speed through the apex, then gradually add the power after the apex to get a smooth fast exit.

Download the WR replay and watch that.
Manual Replay Selection for Report Function
Lateralus

In addition to the current options for selecting a replay to report to the admins, I should be able to do it manually. An incident occured on lap 1 of a race. After the incident occured, I saved the replay. I should be able to raise a new report immediately and select my replay, rather than waiting until the race ends and a new one begins to select 'last race to have ended'. I shouldn't have to sit out two races in order to report someone.

Quote from sam93 :I mean when defending your position when you make sure they stay behind you with not hitting them but being very close to each others bumpers there is nothing wrong with defending your position as long as you dont hit them and cause them to crash i think without its alot more releastic because if i did motorsport in cars i wouldn't want people destracting me by beeping their horns all the time we have the mirrors on the car so we can see where the other car is we don't need horns really its a racing simulator i would like to tell me what motorsport use horns?

Start with chapter one.

Quote from duke_toaster :It's not. It's egg shaped. But I do get the point about saying that it has too many corners.

Not possible. A current F1 engine would blow if it spent more than 20 seconds flat out.

Drivers are full throttle for ~23 seconds between the exit of T11 and the braking zone for T1 at Indy.
