Quote from teedot :Hehe the report feature is getting a workout

Indeed it is.

You really need to adjust your attitude on the server. Just a few minutes ago on UF-BR, you (evidently) were crashed out, so you said "UNF*CKING BELIEVABLE!" and immediately disconnected.

It is extremely hypocritical of you to start a thread complaining about poor attitudes on CTRA servers, and then go do exactly that. Censoring banned language is against the rules on CTRA. Yelling something so childish contributes to the negative environment you're here complaining about.

I'll only say this once. Next time I see you do that, I'll report you. If you're angry about stupid driving, fine. Yell out loud to yourself. File a report. Do not type something like that. You know it's against the rules.

Quote from SamH :When I tested it, I just didn't enjoy it at all in the FBM.

I don't enjoy WE1 or WE1R in the FBM, but I put aside my personal opinions in case others enjoy them. Since when is your opinion of sole relevance? Just who do you think you are?!

Seriously though, I've never actually driven that combo, I just noticed it was missing from the list. Do you have access to stats which might show certain circuits to be particularly popular or unpopular? If so I think they should be used to refine the list to avoid circuits which tend to empty out the server. FE Green Rev seems to do that, but that's only my very limited perspective.

Quote from chanoman315 :short tracks kinda suck

Thanks for your incredibly insightful, well-qualified contribution.

Good list, but why no SO6R?

What's the logic behind the track selection on Single Seater 1? I asked back when it was Patch X, and basically I was told that the shorter tracks were chosen over long ones. AS North, not AS Grand Prix. SO Classic, not City Long.

Which makes sense, but that seems to have gone completely out the window for Patch Y. Not that such is necessarily bad though.

Now that we only have the slower FBM and not the FOX, it has become obvious that some circuits in the rotation really do not belong.

WE1R, specifically. The server rotated there earlier today and the server population promptly fell through the floor. I like the circuit itself, but it simply is not suited to the FBM. There isn't a single braking zone on the entire circuit. In two places a touch of the brakes is helpful, but it's a confidence thing rather than strictly necessary to slow the car down very much. The rest of the circuit is completely flat-out. And since the FBM has such low downforce compared to the FOX, slipstreaming is much more difficult. The FOX is kinda fun on WE1R actually because it's a slipstreaming battle.

Not that longer circuits are all bad - AS National Rev is quite a lot of fun in the FBM, because there are long straights. Plus Rev config is much much more fun than standard.

Short circuits are absolutely fantastic in the FBM. Sprint 2 is incredible. AS Cadet Rev is great too, although I've only done that offline so far.

I don't think we users can view the list, so I will propose what I think would best suit the FBM. Comments and criticisms welcome.

* I'd like to see the haybale/cone barriers installed at T1 as seen on Race 1 in order to tighten it further and enhance passing opportunities. The exact design of the barriers may have to be modified in order to accomodate open-wheelers though. Even without this FE Green is a fun circuit, but such a change would make it even better IMO.

Quote from teedot :a vast majority thinks that they can wreck someone, spin someone or ram them off into the grass and then continue on their merry way like nothing happened.

That isn't true and you know it. The vast majority of drivers on CTRA are respectful and friendly. The number of people who disrespect the rules are few, but just one of them one a server full of good drivers can cause a lot of havoc and irritation.

Those fools probably don't even read this forum, likely because most of them are illiterate morons. So I'm not sure what you intended to accomplish in this thread, other than to vent. Vent by reporting people who habitually break the rules, which will actually punish them.

You don't have to necessarily remove the card, but in many systems it's difficult to get a good view of the fan without doing so. Point being, blow the dust out to ensure the fan is moving freely and air is flowing smoothly across the heatsink.

Quote from ImportFantasy :Btw since I created a thread here,I guess i could ask this question.Im having various problems with my monitor and even my video car.Its sort of doing this "Static snow flake thing".Is it because my computer is overheating or my video card is over heating or do i just need to keep it open and clean the dust out of it?

Snow is most likely an overheating video card, in which case you need to shut down your computer immediately and address the issue before you run an demanding app like a game. If you have artifacts, you are probably doing permanent damage to your card. DO NOT keep allowing your computer to crash because of heat; expensive components will fail.

The first step is to blow out all the dust with canned air. Take the video card out and make sure there is no dust clogging the fan. Also check the CPU heatsink and fan.

If you're already overheating at stock specs, overclocking will only make it worse and so makes absolutely no sense.

Download a program such as Speedfan to monitor your temps. Your card has a sensor which can be monitored with Nvidia's own application; since I have an ATI card I use ATI Tray Tools along with Speedfan to monitor all my temps and fan speeds.

To be honest I would not bother with overclocking. Your hardware will overclock, but is it really worth the risk? Going past specs voids the warranty and may fry your equipment. It probably won't fry if you're careful, but the gains are minimal. Even if you manage 20%, which is a lot, that's the difference between 80 and 100 fps. That is noticeable, but not huge. I would recommend leaving everything alone and enjoying your already high-performance PC. LFS will benefit very little from graphics overclocking anyway; it craves CPU power. If you absolutely must have more performance, buy better hardware.

Quote from duke_toaster :Yeah, it would have to be very hard or they would have two compounds - a normal and a Thruxton ultra-hard tyre (the BTCC have a specific Thruxton tyre and so do Formula Renault).

F Renault has three sets of gear ratios - a low, medium and high. No mixing and matching is allowed. It has two compounds of slick - normal and Thruxton. It doesn't say that Thruxton tyres can't be used anywhere else but it bans using normal tyres and Thruxton.

What is it about Thruxton that require special tires?

Quote from Zoom_Boom :i don't have a wheel for this game yet and since it does enhance the realism of this game, does it also improve your time??? by how much??

That depends completely on the individual. In almost every case though, the answer is yes. A wheel allows much more precise, consistent car control. And it's a lot more fun, which is all that really matters. A wheel really makes this sim what it is.

This a bug forum. If your post starts with "I propose", you are not pointing out a bug, you're making a suggestion which should go in the Improvement Suggestions forum.

Now then.

Quote from pepe3000 :I propose to ban completely fastest laps

Why? Doesn't really matter anyway because that will never happen.

Quote from pepe3000 :I propose... to impose penalties when the driver put less than 2 wheels on the tarmac to avoid corners.

In hotlapping mode a detection feature is already in-place. Hitting a wall or tire barrier or putting just one wheel off the circuit in a manner which may give an unfair advantage will invalidate the lap, and if necessary the next one. It isn't perfect, but it is sufficient.

Online there isn't a way of doing such a thing, because LFS can't differentiate between someone going off in order to cut the course and someone making a mistake or driving around an accident. The solution in such cases is to design circuits in such a way that track-cutting is punished by barriers or by curbs which damage the car. Suspension damage isn't up to par yet, but it's getting there.

Never have I seen blatant track-cutting on an LFS server which isn't immediately punished. The only instances I can think of in which track-cutting is easy are the banked sections on KY Nat and KY GP Long. Many servers put up barriers there, others have auto-spectate features, and others will kick or ban. All seem to address the issue fairly well.

If you're on a server in which track-cutting is a chronic issue and nothing is being done about it, find another server.

You're asking two very different questions here.

First the easy one. Scawen rationalized not including an auto-update for the new setups because of the updated physics, which rendered our old patch X setups obsolete. I don't buy that argument, really. Sure they require adjustment, but they aren't completely worthless. I've turned my old FOX setups into good patch Y setups with small gearing, camber and pressure tweaks. The basic settings such as wing angles are still useful. It is much easier to tweak a setup than it is to build one from scratch starting with default or race_s.

The second is more complex. I'm not sure I agree that 'weird sets' are required to get heat into the tires. All that is required is adjustment of camber and pressure in order to distribute the loads more evenly across the surface of the tire. The basic setup is far too aggressive with these values, which results in the inside edges getting very hot while the outside edges remain cool. Overheating causes excessive sliding, which causes more overheating, which causes even more sliding, a vicious cycle which usually results in pitching one's car off the circuit backwards across the gravel trap and into the barrier, and an angry shift+S.

I've only really messed with new setups in the FBM and the FOX, but the values seem reasonable to me. Perhaps in other cars that isn't the case.

Quote from duke_toaster :Fortec and V1. It's a F BMW because the prize for V1 is a F BMW drive (or test, more likely) for Fortec.

Will the prize include travel/airfare? I assume the test will take place somewhere in the UK, but what happens if the winner is outside the UK? If the prize is a race seat in the championship (I have doubts), how will that work? It seems unlikely that the winner will be able to take months out of work / school / life in order to race in a serious open-wheel series if he usually only simraces.

Anyone have any info about the V1 championship itself? The official site requires a login, it has no Wikipedia page, so all I can find is the little blurb from LFS with the Patch Y announcement.

Christ, you've gotta be kidding me.

Do not take this advice.

A locksmith will take less than 30 seconds to whip out his Slim Jim and unlock your door. It'll cost you $40-60, but that is much cheaper and more sensible than breaking a window.

The default setup seems to use too much camber and too high pressures, so the inside edges get red while the outside edges are still cool. Grip is very low in these circumstances. Adjust your setups to load the tires more evenly. You'll have more overall grip and R1s will last longer. On short races such as those on CTRA, R1s should always be able to last the distance.

If you find that your fronts are still wearing too quickly, adjust your driving style. Use a gentler, earlier turn-in in order to maximize the moment of best rotation. Try to use as little lock as possible. Your outside tires should be right on the edge of the track at the moment of turn-in. If they aren't, you're using less of the track than is available to you. Good drivers will punish you for that.

If your rears are wearing too quickly, adjust your diff to help you on corner exit and try to be as smooth as possible when putting the power down. You should not have to countersteer to keep from spinning on the exits of slow corners.

There isn't a problem with your setup. Everyone deals with it just like you do. Learn to adjust to cold tires so you can be aggressive in the opening corners when others are struggling.

Also, this issue is already being discussed in a thread just below this. Please don't start redundant threads.

Quote from MAGGOT :It's got no interesting elements at all imho.

Point taken, but I disagree. The final chicane is considered by F1 drivers to be fairly high on the difficulty scale. The whole circuit is considered by F1 drivers to be one of the more difficult ones on the calendar - the surface is bumpy, the chicanes are quite technical, the kerbs are tricky, and they run low downforce so the cars are twitchier than normal.

Quote from MAGGOT :Not to mention it's pretty low as far as driver safety is concerned.

True it's more dangerous than many of today's super-smooth, gigantic-runoff area circuits, but that has no bearing on my enjoyment of the race as a spectator.

Quote from MAGGOT :And, quite honestly, le Circuit Mont Tremblant is an absolutely stunning course located in a stunning area...

Yeah I know, and I'd like to go to a race there someday. But this whole trip is about the Grand Prix. It isn't like we're going to Canada and would like to catch a motor race while we're there. F1 is it.

Quote from MAGGOT : Anyways.. as I said in the previous post, I'd go with T2 exit if you want to go to the CGP.

That was my first choice, but it was before we saw the ticket prices. $400 for the grandstand outside T2, $500 across from the pits. A bit out of our price range, basically.

A specific question for anyone who has been before... does a grandstand ticket include access to the general admission areas? We'd like to watch a practice session from somewhere other than our assigned seats. Any suggestions? I read in F1 Racing this year that T4 is pretty spectacular, but we don't want to miss any action walking all the way out there to find our view blocked by hordes of other people. And it might be restricted to journalists and photographers. The final chicane would be nice too, but there are no grandstands there so viewing seems as though it might be very limited.

Anyone know where to find out which races will have the BMW Pitlane Park?
