Yeah I definitely see what you mean. I've been watching since Melbourne 1996 and this deterioration is saddening.
On the other hand, at least the races themselves are pretty good. The 2007 championship was fantasic despite all the politics surrounding it. Once the lights go out, all that stuff seems to fall away and it's about racing.
This Mclaren aplology is pretty worrying though. I wouldn't be surprised if the FIA barred them from competition this year. Now that would throw a wrench in the works as far as which drivers will be at which team. Hamilton is good enough to push someone else out of a seat despite contracts. The question is, where would he go?
Interesting thread - I was wondering the same thing myself. I got my S2 license in July 2006. I think the first version I played may have been Q. Was there a patch P?
The LX4/LX6 were definitely in the game though; the Formula BMW is the first new car I've gotten since starting LFS.
Don't take it to a shop yet. Basic PC repair is very very simple and you can avoid spending money.
Open it up and blow all the dust out with canned air. Take off the heatsink fan and get all the dust out of the heatsink fins. I had the exact same thing happen to me several months ago. Turns out there was a solid layer of dust caked over my CPU heatsink, so the fan wasn't really blowing on the fins at all. My temp dropped 15C just from getting the dust out.
Aha! I just misunderstood exactly what you were trying to say. I (and evidently others) thought you were trying to say that setting the FOV to 20 is the only sensible way to play.
What you're saying makes sense now, and I fully agree. I'll probably lower my FOV from 100 because I don't really drive the F1 car anyway.
Thank you for being civil and reasonable.
EDIT:
This too. I fully understand that what we see on the monitor is just a representation, and not true-to-life. But until we all have 360-degree displays, we'll have to accept these limitations.
On a somewhat related topic, I disagree that a speedometer is totally useless on a racetrack. Pre-patch Y I used it regularly to get my shift timing exactly right. For example, my FOX / AS Club setup redlighted for 6th gear at 204kph. When the time to shift was close, I'd put my hand on the shifter in anticipation. Crossing through 203 kph, I'd pull the knob to shift, just before the red light. This resulted in a better shift and thus more speed than waiting until the red light is on to initiate a shift. Now I'm not saying that anything in patch-Y should be changed, or that I have less fun because of this. I like the change simply because it's another variable. But for the record, I did use the speedo while racing and it helped me be faster.
By that logic, whenever one crashes, one should smash one's self in the head with a hammer. Realistic, right?
The road, of course. I must be clear I'm not complaining about not being able to see the dashboard. I don't really care what it says. Patch Y is better in every way. But your arguments are totally illogical and downright condescending.
Really? Here's what I see in the FBMW with FOV set at 100. Please show which parts of that image would be outside my field of vision if I were actually sitting in a real FBMW.
So what? Projector setups are the extreme minority and thus have no significance in this discussion.
Again, this makes no sense. This sim is limited by hardware specs such as monitor size. If we were to actually put the FOV at 20 degrees, we can see the dashboard, but then we can't see anything else. Reasonable compromises have to be made in order to mitigate the limitations brought about by current hardware.
20-degree FOV is not reasonable. It's just plain silly.
LOL. Have you actually even driven the cars? To say the FBM is like the FOX is pure folly. Even without FFB the handling differences are bleeding obvious.
I love how they put the decals on the car in such a way (Penisten's or something like that), in just the right place so that when the door was opened, it just said PENIS.
The other side of the car was similar, but I can't remember what it said.
That is your opinion, not anything which can be substantiated with data. And the popularity of FOX/FBM servers proves that such an opinion is clearly the minority.
For those of you who already have X30 installed, what's Chicane Route like? What sort of laptimes can you do, in the FBM in particular?
Could someone please post a screenshot of the layout map? I'm having trouble visualizing exactly which parts of the other South City layouts it uses. Am I correct in assuming that it uses only existing South City areas and that there are no new sections?
In your opinion, is it better in Standard or Reversed?
Also screenshots of any updated textures, new buildings, new armco, new kerbs, anything else that is new would be greatly apprecated.
