Tilke didn't decide to get rid of the forest sections, the circuit owners did. He was given the current circuit boundaries and was told to design a few corners to fit inside. The owners thought that building new corners and shortening the track would improve the action and increase attendance.

I regularly dream that I don't care about S3. LFS is fun in its current form. Why waste time speculating about things that may or may not happen? It's a game; have fun with it while you can. If you don't like LFS as it stands currently or are bored with it, go away. Go do something else. Cluttering up the forum with a bunch of whiny drivel doesn't do any good.

Formula 2 Revival?

This is the first I've heard of this. Seems quite late to start a new series which hopes to be on the grid in April. And the fact that it seems to directly compete with GP2. What do you think?

Quote :FIA reveals further F2 plans

Saturday, 12 July 2008 20:01

The FIA has revealed further details about its planned Formula 2 series, while also opening the tender process for the championship.
F1’s governing body made the surprise announcement last month that it was to revive the F2 name via a new low-cost feeder category from 2009, a move it says is necessary to provide a more affordable route for talented young drivers lacking funds to reach F1.
It has now said in a statement that the tender process is open for manufacturers to bid to become the exclusive supplier of the single-seater series for the years 2009-2011, along with announcing the schedule for its inaugural season.
The proposed championship, which seems to be a direct rival to the Bernie Ecclestone-backed GP2 Series, will comprise 10 events in Europe between April and September.
Unlike GP2, however, each weekend will last just two days (Saturday and Sunday) and include one hour each of free practice and qualifying and a single race of about 175km (109 miles).
There will also be six official one-day testing events, with three coming before the season’s first race and a further three during the campaign.
The FIA reiterated that it hoped the cost to a competitor competing in the championship, including all official tests and events, to be around €200,000 per car per season.
However it added that no minimum or maximum price would need to be indicated in this tender.
Bids by interested parties have to be submitted by 29 August 2008, with the FIA to notify the winning bider on 8 September.
In a separate document, which includes a further summary and draft technical regulations, the FIA said that competitors would be allowed to enter up to two drivers in the championship, but must enter for the entire season.
It added that its preliminary view was that for the championship to go ahead there would need to be a minimum of 14 cars on the grid. There was no mention, however, whether the planned F2 series would run alongside next year’s F1 championship – a status GP2 currently enjoys. There are exactly 10 European races on the provisional 2009 F1 calendar, although none are in April when the F2 season is scheduled to start.

Drivers' Points After Round 9:

Constructors' Points After Round 9:

This season has been even more exciting than I had expected. Mclaren seem to have managed to keep up development pace with Ferrari this season and the points tables reflect that. Hamilton is dominating Heikki more than I thought or really would like. Hopefully Kovalainen can turn it around in the second half of the season.

Massa has been more consistent so far compared to last year so Kimi hasn't been able to emerge as the dominant Ferrari driver. The battle between them as the season gets down to the wire should be very interesting. I'd still give it to Räikkönen in the end though. He just seems to have that bit more speed when it really counts. Massa's close though.

Kubica has been a pleasant surprise. He was kind of disappointing in 2007 so I didn't expect such a turnaround. Watching him tear up the circuit and win his first grand prix in person was something I'll never forget. Montreal is a great venue.

The race at Hockenheim seems like it could be interesting. Ferrari were very strong here last time but Mclaren has been very good in the test leading up to this weekend's race. It should be close. Hopefully there's some decent action going into the hairpin.

My personal bets:

Heikki on pole, Kimi 2nd, Lewis 3rd and Massa either 4th or way back because of some problem.

Kimi takes the win, Lewis 2nd, Kubica 3rd.

Anyone here going to the race? Anyone ever been before? What's it like?
Who's your money on this weekend? Chance of rain maybe? I hope it's a good race.

Quote from Bawbag :Well Lateralus, the first thing i'll say is you shouldn't be trying to argue with the people who are posting their opinions where you asked for it....

I didn't argue with his opinion, I pointed out where he was factually wrong. Which he stated in his second post. No problems here.

Quote from Bawbag :you hold the right to stick in the middle of the track like you did, but you shouldn't do it if your not prepared for contact because it is quite a dangerous form of defending

This is really the crux of the argument, and is quite a good of way putting it I might add. Thanks for that.

Racing incident. Let's move on.

Quote from evilpimp : You didn't leave any space

Completely untrue.

I left him a car's width plus more, which is all that is required. Please explain how I am under any obligation to gift him as much space as he wants.

Quote from franky500 :
From what i can see from the replay the driver passing you held his steering straight.

Really? When I go onboard with him, there are a couple moments where his wheel is definitely pointed left.

Quote from franky500 :wheras your car seemed to twitch slightly over to the right resulting in the first contact which bounces you off slightly, at which point you turn harder to the right and make secondary contact

Correct. When the incident happened live though, I had no intention of ever turning right. I'm sure you're aware of LFS's strange collision physics and how two cars which barely touch seems to 'magnetize' sometimes. When we touched my car pulled to the right uncontrollably and I had to jerk left to correct it. I didn't realize until now that this aspect of the incident doesn't really show up in the replay.

So I guess I can only conclude that strict racing rules sometimes get muddied by LFS's imperfect simulation, which results in incidents where neither driver does anything wrong yet still something goes horribly wrong and a car crashes out. Still fun though.

Case closed, lock thread please.

Quote from SamH : I can confirm that this bug is finally resolved.

As in the misthrown yellows on BL1R? Or with the way CTRA tracks them?

In other words, will BL1R be added back into the rotation, or do we have to wait until Scawen addresses the root issue with a patch?
Question Regarding Racing Rules - Who Was At Fault Here?

Let me preface this by saying that I'm not here to name-and-shame anyone, nor am I venting at being crashed out of a race. Regardless of what happened here I know the other driver is competent. I'm asking a genuine question about whether my movements were appropriate or not. I think I have a firm grasp of respectful racing conduct and clean behavior, but on two separate occasions, someone has disagreed and said that I was in the wrong. I need to understand definitively whether my behavior was appropriate. I'm posting this in General Racing because it has to do with racing rules, not LFS specifically. If it's in the wrong place, mods feel free to move it.

Please keep this thread on-topic. If you haven't even looked at the replay and thus don't have a valid opinion, kindly refrain from replying.

The replay file is attached. Turning the relevant section into a youtube video is too time-consuming, so I'm not going to bother. Skip to 2:00, which is when I'm just finishing the first lap.

The situation:
Westhill, coming around to complete the final lap. I'm just ahead coming onto the pit straight, but the guy behind is closing. He feints left, so I move left a tiny bit. Turns out this was a trick, as he cuts back right and moves alongside on the right. T1 is a right-hander, so he has the inside. Once I see that he's on the inside, I hold my line on the right side of the track. We're both on the inside. The ideal line is on the far left in order to take T1 as wide as possible. However, the ideal line is not the required line. I continue to keep straight and hold my line, making sure that he has at least a car's width, as we get close to T1. He doesn't like being so far inside, so he moves left into my car, we make contact and I get punted off into the gravel.

The conclusion:
From my perspective, I did nothing wrong. On a straight I am required to leave a car's width, regardless of whether the other car has sufficient overlap. I did so. I am also entitled to choose my line, even if it may not be the 'normal' line. I did so. He, on other hand, specifically did not hold his line; instead of changed lines directly into my path and caused unnecessary contact which resulted in a crash.

I've watched the replay several times from different angles and I always come to the same conclusion.

Does anyone not agree with this? Please explain why. If I'm wrong I'll readily admit my mistake and change my driving accordingly in the future. I'm just trying to figure out what is right and proper so I don't keep making the same mistake.

Bonehead move on his part, sure. No human is above error. But just a few weeks after that mistake he showed his genius in the wet in Silverstone. There isn't any genius in IRL right now, except for maybe one or two which have yet to show their real talent.

Quote from TagForce :They shoulda merged the other way for it to become more interesting...

I agree. I was disappointed to hear that the merge would happen in this manner.

I just had a blast hustling an FO8 around Aston Historic. I love the way you can throw the car into the corner hard and it rewards you for it. It feels like you're hanging onto the car, rather than driving it. Great feeling, fantastic game.

It's amateurish driving like that which makes Indy racing less interesting than F1 for me.

Hopefully as a result of the merge, the series will grow and develop and attract more talent.

I noticed today that the FE Green chicane (T1) is different now than last I saw it, which was in patch Y. Did it change in patch Z? Now it's pretty much the normal line, the old one was much slower and tighter.

I can't think of any reason when pumping the brakes would make sense.

All inputs, be they with the brake, throttle or steering, should be done as smoothly and progressively as possible. Doing so upsets the car's balance less and so the car handles more predictably, making it possible to go faster.

Before that they used to concentrate on Schumacher

Not really. Only that fool James Allen was biased towards him. Martin has always been generally evenhanded and Murray Walker was patriotic but still amiable to foreign drivers.

I hope the BBC doesn't overdo it with Lewis the way ITV has done.

With 20 races per year, Abu Dhabi for next year's finale leaves only one slot left. India, South Korea, and probably Russia are coming in, so that means a couple races will have to go. Hungary? France? Australia? Canada? Malaysia maybe? The likelihood of squeezing the US GP back in seems low, despite it being such a huge market for the manufacturers.

Quote from Bob Smith :You realise that BMW started life as an aeroplane manufacturer? And they are, after all, German? I'm sure they're well used to dealing with being/having their products shot at.

BMW made engines, not the aircraft themselves. German aircraft were made by Bayerische Flugzeugwerke, Messerschmitt, Focke-Wulf, Heinkel, Junkers, Henschel, Dornier, and Arado among others.

Not that this has any bearing on the discussion.

I think the whole concept of a cloth skin has huge potential. What we saw in the video was just a bit of experimentation.

Quote from evilpimp :Are the prices I found right??? O_O 300$???? Entry 30$ and ticket to sit at those places 300???

Is there a way to pay those 30$ and still watch the race o_O. Cuz I was going to go until I saw the price.

This is F1, not some club racing event. Tickets are expensive.

We paid $225 for grandstand tickets Fri-Sun. General admission tickets, if they're still available, won't get you much in terms of a view. You'd be lucky to see the tops of the cars whiz past from well behind the fence.
