For that price, the optional progressive clutch and six-speed gated shifter should come standard.

Hell, for that price it should come with a hot 19-year old slave wench chained to it so she could clean and maintain it and service me orally while I drive.

The chatroom on the RA website causes my Firefox to crash. I went to the site just now, and it took me directly to the chatroom. I clicked "close chat" to take me back to the regular site, and while it loads I get the crash. It happened three times in a row.

The whole tire compound / set system needs to be overhauled.

Each car needs its own range of compounds, first of all.

I agree that we should be able to start a race on worn tires. We should also be able to manage different sets of tires individually, i.e. do five laps on one set to scrub them, then save another new set for a race. Servers should also be able to force a particular compound, and limit the number of sets of tires available to each driver.

Quote from Gentlefoot :Kinda stupid research if you ask me.

Is it a surprise that drivers who are likely to take risks on the road are the same drivers who are likely to play a racing simulator game?

Well yes, I'd be surprised.

LFS definitely does increase confidence while driving at least for some people, but the huge flaw in the article is that it equates confidence with aggression or risk-taking.

I'm a better, safer driver because of LFS. I pay closer attention to each car around me, how it's behaving, how fast it is moving relative to me, etc. I look further down the road. I pay closer attention to small bumps and things in the road which may affect traction. I just generally focus more, and people who are passengers while I'm driving often tell me that I'm a safe driver. Yet I have fun while driving too. In certain situations on public roads, it's completely safe to chuck it into a corner a little bit. Not enough to actually approach the limit of course, but just give yourself a sense that it's there. Makes driving much more exciting.

They should make T1 much much tighter. As tight as T1 at Sakhir. Then immediately cut back with another 180-degree left and back onto the normal T3.

So we're headed for the first European race of the season. I can't say I'm a much of a fan of the Barcelona circuit though. T1 is quite fast so overtaking is tough, and it is by far the best spot on the track to make a move. The new chicane doesn't serve its intended function either. It has some fun fast corners though.

Most of the teams will make some steps forward in terms of development, so the order will probably be shaken up a bit. Here's how it looks so far:

Driver points after Round 3:

Constructor points after Round 3:

There have been four days of testing among nine teams this week at the track in anticipation of the GP next weekend. Some of the teams have been running 2009 tires and aero packs though, so it's quite tough to draw any conclusions from the times:

Unofficial Monday times from Barcelona, Day 1:
1. Felipe Massa, Ferrari, 1:18.613
2. Alexander Wurz, Honda, 1:21.059
3. Pedro de la Rosa, McLaren, 1:21.566
4. Nick Heidfeld, BMW Sauber, 1:21.679
5. Nelson Piquet, Renault, 1:21.913
6. David Coulthard, Red Bull, 1:22.193
7. Kazuki Nakajima, Williams, 1:22.431
8. Timo Glock, Toyota, 1:22.590
9. Vitantonio Liuzzi, Force India, 1:22.846

Unofficial Tuesday times from Barcelona, Day 2:
1. Rubens Barrichello, Honda, 1:18.928
2. Giancarlo Fisichella, Force India, 1:19.721
3. Felipe Massa, Ferrari, 1:20.283
4. David Coulthard, Red Bull, 1:20.392
5. Lewis Hamilton, McLaren, 1:20.452
6. Fernando Alonso, Renault, 1:20.616
7. Nico Rosberg, Williams, 1:20.800
8. Timo Glock, Toyota, 1:20.870
9. Nick Heidfeld, BMW Sauber, 1:20.981

Unofficial Wednesday times from Barcelona, Day 3:
1. Fernando Alonso, Renault, 1:18.483
2. Michael Schumacher, Ferrari, 1:19.323
3. Adrian Sutil, Force India, 1:19.424
4. Robert Kubica, BMW Sauber, 1:19.785
5. Nico Rosberg, Williams, 1:19.841
6. Rubens Barrichello, Honda, 1:19.920
7. Lewis Hamilton, McLaren, 1:20.591
8. Sebastien Bourdais, Toro Rosso, 1:20.715
9. Mark Webber, Red Bull, 1:20.849
10. Jarno Trulli, Toyota, 1:20.867

Unofficial Thursday times from Barcelona, Day 4:
1. Mark Webber, Red Bull, 1:21.953
2. Heikki Kovalainen, McLaren, 1:23.589
3. Kimi Raikkonen, Ferrari, 1:23.619
4. Robert Kubica, BMW Sauber, 1:24.715
5. Jenson Button, Honda, 1:24.873
6. Kazuki Nakajima, Williams, 1:24.927
7. Nelson Piquet, Renault, 1:26.100
8. Jarno Trulli, Toyota, 1:32.150

The Spanish GP has a reputation of being a bit boring because of the nature of the track and because the teams test at Barcelona so much, so the cars tend to run two-by-two. Hopefully that isn't the case this year. Some nicely-timed rain in quali would be nice, sticking some fast guys at the back of a generally scrambled grid. Dry and sunny on race day. Then we'd see some overtaking.

They should have included terrorist attack among the other causes. I'd bet it's right down there with fireworks and floods as the least likely causes of death.

But continue to be afraid, as it is profitable.

I only live a few hours away from there, but I haven't done it because I can't justify the expense of the fuel to get all the way there and back. If I were in the area already, I'd consider it.

Plus, I already have two fantastic roads within 30 minutes of me. 221-S and 194-S are both just like Deal's Gap, but a little shorter. Parts of 194-S are actually tighter than anything at Deal's Gap. There's a section with back-to-back hairpins which are so tight and steep that I'm nearly on full lock, and the inside front wheel comes completely off the ground. And I'm in an '98 Acura CL, which has a fairly good turning radius.

I've done them both about 10 times each and they're never boring, except when I come up behind some old codger motoring along at 10mph.

Quote from ans7812 :I've always thought of Canada as a nice peaceful country and am planning a vacation there for the summer. We are planning to stay in Montreal. I'd like to hear from Canadians or people who have visited this area. Can anyone from there or who knows the area suggest sites to see, things to do, places to go etc in the Montreal area?

If it helps, I am going with three of my friends and we plan to take Amtrak there (from New York.) We plan to stay for 6-7 days. Any help is appreciated.

No real help I can offer, but I can say that I'm also planning on going to Montreal this June for the grand prix. It should be a great time. We're staying in an RV park about 20-30 min from downtown Montreal.

We really don't have any specific plans other than wander around the different parts of the track and the island, then to the downtown area right near it. From what I understand there are several breweries, which will be calling me like a siren. I'll steer straight into the rocks with wild abandon.

I was fairly disappointed to learn that the Uninbroue brewery is well outside Montreal itself, so we probably won't have time to visit it. La Fin Du Monde and Tres Pistoles are two of the finest ales I've ever experienced.

Quote from lizardfolk : I can almost guarantee you that he wont move into NASCAR.

Well I know. It just wouldn't make sense for him to. Right now he has everything to lose and nothing to gain. If NASCAR ends up being tougher than he originally thought, he could ruin his reputation as one of the greatest F1 drivers ever.

I just meant that if he does decide to go into a series like DTM, he'll have more time and more opportunities to accept a test in a Nextel Cup car like Montoya a few years ago. Hopefully at an organized NASCAR test so we'd have some laptimes to compare him to.

I've been on some forums which use the karma/reputation system, and none of them seemed to have gotten any benefit from it. Usually it devolves into yet another way to flame someone. Posters who don't like each other are constantly in neg-rep battles, and the posters with already huge egos have yet another statistic with which to inflate it further. Nothing that can be done with these systems can't currently already be done. If someone makes a thoughtful post, reply saying so. If someone does something stupid, report it or ignore it.

Besides, there's already too much clutter on this forum because it allows animated avatars. I want my forums simple. Plain backgrounds. Consistent font, size and color in posts. Small, motionless avatars or none at all. If I wanted bright colors flying around the screen enough to make me dizzy, I'd turn on the TV for a change.

Quote from lizardfolk :Anyway, I was quite interesting to see Michael Schumacher attending the race. I hope he wasn't too appalled

I hope he was there in order to decide whether he wants to move into a tintop series in the next couple years. I hope he does, just so he might get an opportunity to test a Nextel Cup car. I found his comments about them a while back quite intriguing and would love to see whether his perception of stock cars on ovals matches up to the reality.

I don't really care for him that much as a personality, but his skills are amazing. I have no doubt that if he gave it his full efforts (which is all he knows how to do, "half-assed" isn't in his vocabulary) he could set competitive lap times.

Please no cracks about not using a screen saver

Not a crack, an honest question - why use a screen saver? Burn-in on modern displays is a thing of the past. If you leave your PC alone for an extended period, just press the power button on the monitor to save even more power.

Yeesh, I didn't like that too much. I'm more into more chilled out, downtempo house music. Lemongrass, John Tejada, DJ Krush, Satoshi Tomiie, Dave Seaman, stuff like that.

Nice job if you created that yourself though.

Quote from Darkone55 :The range is everywhere between 1% and 99% throttle.

I've already explained this man. The range isn't anywhere between 1% and 99% for me. It's 28.35%. If I use 28.34% it won't shift, and if I use 28.36% it won't shift. There's a strange bug which is only affecting some players.

I'll try Dru's suggestion to set my clutch to a button though. I've never done that before, but it's worth a shot.]
