Problem solved!
It was a combination of Driver Cleaner Pro (great tip thanks for that) and believe it or not, Windows Update.
I tried all sorts of drivers, including various omega drivers, none of which worked.
After a full clean of all drivers, I went to windows update and installed whatever driver it gave me, system info says version no. 8.231.0.0, dunno how useful that will be.
Thanks for all your help guys
"if it aint broke, dont fix it"
A piece of advice I should of taken last night.
I tried reinstalling my graphics driver to add the CCC, Ive been running without it until now. Now I cant get any of them to work.
Ive tried every driver on my computer, with and without the CCC.
I keep getting the same problem, which makes me think the card is damaged.
Although the device manager reports no problems, there is no hardware acceleration, no software can find it. So no software that relies on it will start, LFS tells me "Could not detect any screen modes. Probably error in graphics driver", Armadillo run tells me "No hardware acceleration found. Please ensure you have installed the drivers for your graphics card".
So does anyone know what drivers will work with this card?
Or can anyone confirm the chances that my card is damaged?
Or any other ideas?

Athlon XP 3200
Abit AV8 motherboard
1Gb 3200 DDR RAM
Radeon 9800 Pro
Yes I am aware this is well due an upgrade, which is planned.
But I need to fix this in the meantime, this jerky scrolling in Firefox is doing my head in.
Never noticed it previously and like I said, its not in windowed mode in general, its in un-maximised windowed mode, if that makes sense.
I don't want to run LFS in windowed mode, I can live perfectly happily without ever putting it in un-maximised window mode, its a very minor inconvenience.
I only mention it because its a new thing to me,
I thought someone else might of come across it,
and tbh, Im curious as to why its happening
edit - guess what, its stopped doing it, everything is back to normal
Ignore me, I wasnt here, you didnt see me right :hide:
Not been here for a while, but great to see a new patch,
many thanks
I have a small problem, but it may be my computer.
When running LFS in a window that is smaller than my monitor,
everything slows down massively, like 2fps and the cursor is lagging badly.
Not just while racing but in every part of LFS, and any other programs I have running! Full screen or windowed but maximised its fine, bouncing of the 100fps limiter.
Anyone experienced this? Or have any ideas?
Id update my graphics drivers but my card is so old new drivers are not written for it anymore.
Makes total sense, I wear glasses, and have been meaning to go for an eye test for months now. The glasses Im wearing are probably 4 years old, Ive lost or broken all the pairs Ive bought since.
And one eye is stronger than the other, cant remember which one now.
Ill get new glasses in the new year and report back
exactly that, Ive tested on tracks with predominantly left hand turns to see if I lean the other way, but no, always to the right.
The way I imagine it, if I was concentrating any harder my jaw would slack open and Id start drooling, theres a nice mental image for you
I used to do that, and then one day I moved the desk I was pulling so hard. So now, I dont clamp the wheel onto the desk as hard, it forces me to be gentle with it otherwise I pull it of the desk!
One thing I cant stop doing and have done since the start, is tilting my head to the side. No matter how hard I try, my head very slowly tilts over to the right and down slightly throughout the race.
By the end of the race Im looking at the screen from a very weird angle, then I realise and straighten up. Anyone else do that?
I cant believe Im on that lol, *nostalgic sigh* remember when the replay format was .gst
Remember when the pit exit on Blackwood joined the track halfway along the start finish. After races people would gather on the tarmac section just beyond it. I remember thinking when we got the new pitlane, where are people going to gather?
Heres an old pic of it, I cant remember the details but I know the number of racers had just been increased so the endurance league had a test race.
Ive not read the whole thread, Ive not even had a proper test of the new patch yet. I got up early to have a play
Has anyone tried mouselook to see if it solves the view problems?
Ive not tried the latest version but I get the feeling I will shortly.
Sounds like we are after different things from the sim.
Im into yacht racing, and although VSK5 is pants and arcadey in many areas, it provides the best online yacht racing.
When your driving your massive cargo ship into the Solent, look down, Ill be the guy in the racing yacht ducking under your bow to make the next mark
Horses for courses. I have massive respect for the guys who drive the big ships, I wouldnt want that job.
Dont bother with Virtual Sailor, Virtual Skipper 5 is the best sailing sim out there. Not on the LFS level of simulation, but its the best we have at the moment. The rules of sailing are proving tricky to implement for some reason.
Maybe when Scawen is done with LFS he can go and show the VSK guys how its done http://www.virtualskipper-game.com/en/
If your not into sailing then its probably no fun
I enjoyed the revival more than the fos cos I got dressed up when I went
Both great events, more expensive than alot of motorsport in the UK cos demand for tickets is so high. You wont find a hotel within 50 miles of Goodwood thats not fully booked for the revival weekend.
I saw FIA GT cars at Silverstone last year and the weekend ticket was something like 25 quid.
Motorsport spectating is cheap over here, apart from Goodwood and F1.
If you have access to a pc and the right cable, you can take the hard drive out of the laptop and hook it up to the pc as a slave.
The laptop HD is probably 2.5inch so you need an IDE cable with 2.5 at one end and 3.5 at the other. Or a standard cable and a convertor.
Just make sure you set the jumpers on the hard drives correctly, they normally have a sticker on telling you where to put them.
More hassle then the other methods people have suggested, but its something to try if they dont work.
The canadian gp went on much longer than anticipated because of all the laps under safety car. So they didnt have as much post race time to do all the usual stuff. The highlights later in the day showed the stuff you missed.
Its not like you missed the end of the race.
They have a whole new audience to cater for now, with LH doing so well there will be loads of new fans starting to watch, so maybe things will change a little. Who knows. The bbc at least think snooker is important enough to delay other programs if matches over run.
Im waffling off topic now, oops.
Vykos did get LFS on tv in Germany a while ago
Not quite in the way you meant but still.
Would be great to see LFS races on tv, and it will probably happen eventually, not on ITV though. There are so many tv channels now that anything can find airtime with enough effort or good luck. Its just a matter of time.
If we are talking car stickers, Id put one on my car, but Id want the type I can put on the inside of a window.
Easy for me to remove from glass when I come to sell the car, not easy for someone else to peel of
Good advice from most people
Get out there and just do it being the best.
Know your limits, I quite often pull to the side at the start if I know theres loads of guys faster than me. Sometimes I just get a feeling that I need to be at the back of the pack come t1.
If you find yourself on a server full of racers much, much faster than you, find another server, what you are after is people just a bit faster than you.
Its no fun lapping on your own.
Good luck! Just do it!
