Quote from pik_d :On that site it says 13 configurations, are there really that many unique paths? Anyone know what the other 6 are?

Maybe the 13 configuration figure comes from the 7 configurations reversed, minus one... The one where the safety (run offs, etc) wouldn't be enough to race on.

Quote from alquimista :hummm ... i'm getting tempted to buy a logitech

it seems that maybe will not improve my times so much but will improvve the fun of driving ... and is also important

the problem now is that its so hard to choose without trying before buy

i can buy a 2nd hand momo for 40 euros but then will i feel the need to go for a H-shifter?
or maybe i buy the g27 and then i find out that the momo would be ok for my driving needs?

i dont have much money but i can get the money for the g27 ... but will it payout the investment?

i only play fls bmw ... i like speed and adrenalina
i tryed dirt2 ... i enjoyed but i get bored after some time (too much arcade stuff i guess)
the other cars in lfs like in gti racing are very slow and bored to me ...

so if a buy a new wheel will be mainly for lfs-bmw or other faster cars (after buying s2 license) ... do you think the H-shift will be appropriate for those kind of racings? It feels to me that a wheel with shift paddles on the wheel will be more realistic (like formula 1) ... am i wrong?

Go for it... the "game" will change so dramatically, you won't believe it.
If you can, buy S2 together with the wheel.

That way, you"ll have lots of new content and a new great wheel...
Your friends will miss out on you for a while. :P

Edit: The G27 has paddles too, don't worry.

I would pay pay pay, gladly pay for content on LFS current physics and graphics.

Pay a lot for a lot of content.
But, eh, don't have that choice.

You race as you practice...

So, you really better practice on the edge/limit.
Otherwise, you're just conditioning yourself to race as fast or as slow as you practice.

There's really no way around it.

Quote from zazzn :is there any idea of any sorts of time frame when we can expect some sort of trial beta or something for us to play on?

any thing at all.. just throw us a bone!!

They won't do that...
But I would guess late 2011, more likely 2012.

All I know is that I would gladly pay a full S2 license price for a "content package", say 3-4 tracks (with lots of variations) and 2-3 new cars.
And that's with our current tyre model/physics engine.

GLADLY.

As scipy said, LFS is still amazing, just desperately needs new/more content.
Above all, seriously.

Unfortunately there's no content to pay for with my money.
How badly I wish there was.

I would like to participate but I need a partner/team to do so...
Guess you OWRL guys can keep me on the "teamless poor souls that can be invited list"'s list?

Theres no team that might want to start a "B" team?
That way we 4 drivers could share setups and practice together and whatnot...
Doubling efforts!

Gimme a call, guys.

Cheers from Brazil.

"I looked at the LFS Stats thread and evidently it does not work with the newer versions of LFS."

Are you positive about that?
I've got LFSSTAT1.11 and it does work with LFS Z28 version...

If I'm not mistaken, a tool made by my fellow brazilians should have that "feature" you're looking for:

It's a shame that this isn't the fastest way around a track.
Do you know any FO8 or MRT championship?
Meanie

I guess you could say those are my favourite cars of LFS. Go figure.

I'm looking for a FO8 championship.
Do you know about any?
Running or "about to start"?

"High powered" open wheelers are not popular at all on LFS.
Ok, BF1 lately has some leagues popping up but I'm not that interested on the BF1 (now, take the TC off and it's a godly car :tilt.

FOX and FBM are really "meh" to me.
I know that the competition is fierce and close with those cars but I don't get any joy from driving the car. The FO8, on the other hand...

OWRL Div A is out of reach for me since to be able do drive in it you have to place "well" on the Div B championship. Div B championship that's already underway.
Shouldn't be impossible to get on the upgrade to license A points zone with the remaining races but I simply am not looking forward to that. Since I really don't like those cars.

Ahhh, of course, the MRT.
Any leagues running or planning to race this little beauty, I'm all ears about it too!

So... do you guys have anything for me?
At all?
Thanks for your time.

P.S.: I'm not interested on the Oval racing that LFS provides either.
Yeah, I know that with these requirements on our LFS's scene I'm a guy that's hard to please...
But since you guys know it all about upcoming and current leagues, please help a brother out if you can.

Cheers.

Jesus Christ.

Yesterday, when I posted this thread I've read it once again after it had been published and thought: "Maybe I was a little bit too much on the defensive side", as in I should've just asked for it instead of giving a reasonably (as I tought, of course I must've been wrong it seems) reason for the request.

I ran two races on the day of that "incident" (not being able to see wind info onscreen before the start), didn't get mixed up on any incidents, got on the podium on both races and adapted myself well to the wind, obviously. It's not like not knowing the wind as you're going to race with is the end of the world.

I'm not asking for an "aid", ot for an "arcadish modification".
It's just that IF the wind is displayed onscreen, then MAYBE it could be displayed elsewhere. Instead of only being shown for 2 seconds or so.

If the wind being show on the start of the race is useless*, then get rid of it being displayed at all. Why not?

ONCE it's displayed, I *THINK* that it wouldn't be a stretch of realism to have it displayed elsewhere too. Just as laps are displayed on the F12 screen. Sometimes you just miss it on the start of a race (and lag from a big field make it even easier to miss it), am I asking too much or being stupid about it?

I really don't see why that's apparently such a bad idea.

* I STRONGLY disagree with that, a 3km/h wind differs a LOT from a 24km/h wind. Both being a "light wind" possibilities, for instance. With a 3km/h wind you pretty much can go as if there was no wind at all and slighty correct your lines and braking points as needed. On a 24km/h wind you should pay CLOSE attention to the speedometer (since we don't get that "feel" of speed so well from a 2D screen) cause it WILL demand some drastic changes in your driving. So, KNOWING THE WIND SPEED, I'm not talking about direction or anything, IS PRETTY IMPORTANT.
If it could be displayed better, cool! That's ALL I'm asking for.

By displaying it "better" I'm talking about the very same information that IS given out at the start of the race before the lights go up. Nothing else.

If even that's stupid, we should remove it then.
But I don't think it's stupid and am strongly against it.

Maybe I made my point a little bit easier to understand this time?
I sure hope so.
Wind Speed Information on F12 screen
Meanie
S3 licensed
Hello, I've never raced much with wind on so I never had any troubles with "it".
"It" being the fact than once you start the race, after that milisecond where the server puts the wind speed information on screen, you just don't know how strong the wind is.

It happens that lately I've running at races with some wind on a league.

Ok, of course you can "feel" the wind, and that's key if you're to adapt and race to the best of your capacity, but specially on crowded servers... something should done to deliver that information to the driver in a better fashion.

On a crowded server (say 30 people), there's usually some lag before the last car (or the admin gives the go anyway) clicks on ready and all cars are on grid and ready to race.
Then the laps (race length) show up and the wind speed beneath it, on a smaller font.

Problems is, it last for only 2 seconds or so and you could (as I did) EASILY miss it if you're focused on something else.

If we had the wind speed information on the F12 screen it would be really useful. We have the race length information there already...
Need help cleaning the pots on a G25!
Meanie

Hey guys, hello there!

I’m having some problems with my G25 pedals.
They’re “spiking” like hell.

I’ve heard that cleaning the pots could help me out a bit with that.
So, I’ve bought an electrical contact cleaner, ok.

Now, I would like to have a little help about finding the said pots and how to properly clean them…

First of all, is this the “pot”?

I mean, it’s enclosed inside that golden casing, right?
If that’s not it… where is it located?

I’ve heard that I could clean it without opening the pot casing. Is that true?
I really would rather do it without opening it.

If that’s not the case. How I go about opening it and closing it afterwards?
If indeed I can clean it without opening it… How do I do that?
Is there any “opening” that could be properly used for that?
Is there any special “caution” that should I take during the process?

Well, any hints about any of these doubts of mine would be appreciated.
Specially if very detailed, better yet if on “graphical/drawing/video” form.
I’m a very “visual” kind of stupid person. But please, don’t be shy, a few grunted misspelled words would help me too if you can’t/don’t want to offer more!

Thanks a lot for your help.

Tristan laid out some settings for the head movements for the "FOX" if I'm not mistaken. Quite some time ago...
He drives an old-ass () F3 so he probably knows what he's doing...

Use the search feature. I'm pretty sure there's a thread with some suggestions for that area.

The plan is to be able to heel and toe "more confortably", yeah.

Look, I've got this kindly sent to me on RSC forums.
Measurements from a professional racing pedal set.
Should help too.

But I'm still interested on hearing your opinions so, if anyone else can help... fire it away.
Pedal Positioning
Meanie
S3 licensed
Hello y'all, I'm going to "mod" my G25 pedal set and I"ll have freedom of placement for the pedals so... I would like to hear some ideas about the ideal* positioning of the pedals on a racing car.

Can anyone help me with that?

1.) From what I've gathered so far people do like to place the throttle pedal a little bit further "down" compared to the brake pedal. Some 2cm, or so?

2.) What would a good distance between the brake and throttle pedals?
I think that the standard placement on the G25 make them a little bit too distant from each other.

3.) Distance between the brake and clutch pedal? Probably a little bit more spaced out compared to the standard distance?

4.) I would like to place a "resting pedal" for the clutch pedal too.
Any ideas as to how far away from the clutch pedal? Make it level with the clutch pedal?

And don't worry, I"ll test it all before assembling it for good but having some "proven figures" as to the placement and relative distances/etc would help a lot to get the ball rolling. And even be a better idea on the long run than some setting I might like at the moment but get annoyed with later on (ergonomics and stuff). So please, don't be shy.

Also, anyone who has a "modded G25 pedal"/cockpit of sorts or something like that and feel inclined to take some measurements of their pedals for me... that would be lovely.

Ahhh If you guys can stick to the metric system, it would me help a ton.
But I think I can handle some measure conversions if needed be.

Thanks a lot, really!

* - yeah, I realize that shoe size, personal preference and other aspects do play a big role on this too, don't worry.
