Quote from al heeley :Isn't this why there are individual sliders for the volume level of these separate items?
Why not just turn up wind noise and skid vol boost, turn down engine vol a little. Simple but effective.

Even if you do it it's wayyyyy too low.

You can bring the engine sound to its minimum and skid & wind to it's max (which really isn't much, just .5 on a 2.0 slide bar where 1.5 is the standard option) and still you won't be hearing any wind or skid sounds, even on open wheelers at high speed corners and "drifting" and so on.

Sorry for not commenting about the other issues but what i really, really, REALLY *NEED* is to be able of hearing my tyres.

Even with everything on "max" (skid on max, engine on min) i really can't hear it.

It annoyed me so much that i even went back to U30.

ps: i had unlocked my S2 just once, when i bought it, then today i unlocked it for U32 and then unlocked back to U30 again, now i'm left with no way of further testing U32 but really, i don't want to, unless i have some tyres' sound *pretty please*?

And if it won't get any better (tyres issue) maybe there could be an option to use the "current" sounds (pre-u32) on the next incompatible versions?
I would settle for that on a dime.

Else (without an option to keep the "old sound" and this issue not gettin' worked out) it would really drive me away from lfs.

Thanks for the attention...

He is my friend.
Trust me, he didn't accomplish all that. illepall

Yesterday he was racing and then our server crashed.
After that he took a look on lfs world and his stats were all like that.

ps: on further analysis... some of the other top positions are kinda "way too extreme" too, eh?

Probably it was noted already but if it ain't... just a reminder.
Cheers.

Edit: All the others who were on the server already got that bugged status.
I cant point who they are if needed.

Damn, that's really bizarre.

Quote from Nard :Or like me, in a week of knowing what the next track will be in our little league race events, I've clocked in over 350 laps on FE Gold, shaving more and more time, and working on the perfect tire setup, trying to figure out what was wrong with my gearbox, etc. Race is thursday, and only today I must have done over 60 laps.

That's what sim racing makes of you.

Heh, i'm new to LFS as you can see and just after i bought S2 my country league started a lil championship which ended on november.
I must've clocked around 1000 laps (yes, 1k, that's right) at the bare minimum, each rac,e preparing for a 50 laps race...

Hey, i've got a second place at least.

Not really.
One of them said he was the race leader and the other said he was at up to 2nd or 3rd place.

Quote from sinbad :95% or racers are excellent when it comes to obeying the blue flags, and 95% of racers know you can't really expect to not be impeded at all every single time. The problem is that 9 out of 10 times a blue flag is shown on a public server it is to someone who has left the pits long after the race has started. That's what annoys people as much as anything else (imo). Because they're not just lapped traffic that for some reason doesn't make it easy for you, they're random cars that have no place on the circuit in the first place.

If you join the race after it has started then you must make 10times the effort to not interrupt the race in progress.

Yep, that's pretty much what i'm talking about.
When it comes to pub races it is the case 95% of the time, or even more.

The races are pretty short and cause of that even if there's some great disparity in times the slower ones are pretty much never in a position of being lapped by the faster ones.

BUT there's always (as i said) the great guys who either crashes or join the server when a race is underway (nothing "against" it, we all do it) AND then SCREW with peoples' race.

That really makes me deeply angry.

If you crash or didn't start the race with the others you're NO PART OF IT and therefore if you are going to use the track while others are racing (even when the race will be over in just a few minutes) PLEASE DO NOT screw my or others' race. Please.

By getting out of the pit (doesn't using the map is no excuse, if you don't use it then you don't join a race unerway and risk ruining others' race) just in front of the people racing or crashing/spinning outta the track and then returning to the track when there's people coming and so on.

Just don't. Please.
The race will be over in a few minutes and then you can join and race with us. But please don't act like that.

The sad part is that 99% of the people who do this kind of thing either do not read these forums or even if they do they probably won't enter in a thread like this or even, if they do, take it seriously.

It's just a utter lack of respect that makes me very sad/angry.
Well, i'm having kind of a bay day too so excuse me if i were a lil too harsh.

Cheers..

Now to the point of my thread... What is the general rules for avoiding contact in a race? Who has the right of way, i guess is what i'm asking. Who has the obligation to avoid who? I'd just like to clarify things because i'd like to race clean.

It would be really great if all newcomers had that attitude of yours.

Another really golden (just golden) thing that happens time from time is someone crashing into the race or joining a server while there's a race on and exiting the pits and entering the track just IN FRONT of the cars racing.

No, the guy can't wait goddamn 5 seconds to let them pass and then join, he has to join RIGHT BEFORE the guys racing pass by and then screw everybody 's Turn 1.

I really, really hate when that happens.
And that happens a lot.

Quote from PLAYLIFE :It's always a good idea not to make the reader not have to read through all your text to find the point. What you are saying is on the 9th paragraph or smth.

I'm really sorry about that.
Made my best to sound as clear as possible.
It's just the lack of vocabulary or something, i don't know

You have no idea how exasperating it is to be able to convey and idea in words perfectly on one language (maybe you do) and not being able to do it in another one. :/

I'm sorry again.

Quote from (SaM) :
I for one think technically it would be very possible. The only important thing is how would the person updating get the information. The necessary information for the leagues is findably on the internet in the LFSForums and the respective league sites.
It's all about finding someone willing to go through all that and finding someone to make a template website/page to be updated everytime there's a new league race underway.

I'd love to see this as I still don't have a clue wich leagues are going on right now and wich I should join next. There are probably alot out there wich I'd love to join but have never heard about yet.

Opinions?

You got exactly my feelings.
I hope there's more people who can see that and maybe feel our way?

As you said, the technical part should be simple enough.
AND the tricky part, i think, would be tricky only in the beginning.
You know, as the "listing" gets more and more popular it would pretty much "update itself". Or maybe i'm being too naive.

But yes, we would need some people "validating" things anyway.
And i'm a volunteer for that chore.

Cheers.
Just an idea for the community.

Hello fellow pilots.
I would like to propose an idea.
(If there already is something like that please ignore my whole post - and point me towards it please)

Here is the thing, my english isn't stellar or anything like that but i"ll try my best to explain what i mean, right?
Bear with me for a minute while i explain it.

I for one like to race in leagues (even only having LFS for such a short ammount of time now), everything is a lot more organized, people tend to be more on par with each others' times, peaple race a lot more "seriously" and prudently and so on. My kind of racing.

I'm sure a lot of you guys too like to race in some leagues, right?
For the same reasons i think and others more.

Here at the forums we've got a section for leagues and stuff. That's cool.
There are a lot of leagues listed here and there's plenty more which aren't listed and have it's own subforum (here). That's cool too. There ain't enough room for "all" of them, of course.

I'm from Brazil and we just wrapped up our events (brazilian league - www.lfsbr.com) for the year and will be coming back only around march next year.

Now, i'm looking for a league to spend some quality racing time on.
I've looked through some of the subforums (i'm mostly interested on open wheelers, pretty much only the fox and fo8), followed some signature links too, that kind of stuff.

Well, a lot of leagues are already running. Some, it looks like, aren't "active" and others while apparently "active" haven't a date for their next "season".

What i would like to propose is a pretty simple "LFS Leagues' Global Calendar".

I know nothing of "coding" and the like but i guess it would be really easy to do it, on the technical level.

What it would be is a website where "all leagues" (thats the tricky part i guess) announce their seasons, that's all.
Maybe some "stand alone events" too.

What i would like to know is when events (be it full seasons or just "events") of such level ("leagues", as i explained before) are going to take part.

If we had such a website on which the leagues could announce their events my LFS experieance (and i guess a lot others too, right?) would be much better.

What do you guys think? Dumb idea?
Please share your opinions about it and again i'm sorry about my poor english.

Ps: Then if and when we get this website running we could add some filter options (to see what is going to take place on any given month, for cars, kind of event, if it's open to "anyone" or no, etc etc), maybe a subscribe option for updates via e-mail os something. the main idea is to have a place of easy reference to go and find out "everything" which is going to be happening on the lfs leagues' scenario.

The main idea is that. If the event isn't "open to anyone" (a only nationals' pilots league, a "higher class" inside a league cup, anything really) it doesn't matter, it will be listed and then whoever is interested on that league (cars, combos) go to the league's website listed for specific info about that "event" and to see if they can apply or not.

The only "tricky" part would be to get in touch with "all" those leagues' "owners" and get the info from them, but even that shouldn't be a problem, a mere "pilot" could give us the info regarding the event's date, someone else validate the info and bam, there we got another entry on the website.

Ps2: what a bloody large "Ps", eh? hehehe
Just to be clear, again, what i would like to see is just a very simple "listing" about all the upcoming "events", comprising "all" leagues, really. That's all.

One thing that would be nice is some sort of visible differentiation for the S2 racers hanging around on a demo server. I wondered if perhaps letting the auto-skin download for only S2 licensed racers on demo servers would be a big incentive - you'd have all these anonymous white cars plus a few guys with the full car skin treatment:

Demo: "yo Rakhsh - ur car looks rly cool m8 wtf??!?!?!omg!!!!111one" etc.
Me: "Well that's because I'm an S2 licensed racer. Cool, huh? "

Quote from Bob Smith :Two ways you can go as I see it.

Either stick with R1s and attempt to reduce temps by hiking up pressure (looks like they're at max already), soften suspension, reduce negative camber, lower diff locking.

Or switch to R2s and try and get some heat into them, drop the tyre pressures, increase camber, stiffen suspension, increase diff locking.

On a track like Blackwood with mostly one-way turns, the outside tyres will always be cooler than the inside.

Btw we have a setups forum for all things setup related, I'll move your thread over there now.

Yeah man, exactly how i see it too.
So.. with "numbers" what exactly i should do on the "R1 attempt"?
As you said, yeah, its already on max pressure.

What other values i can change to make it a lil less "heat prone"?

I just did a 22 lapper with a softer foot and managed to finish it..
Just not too great times, you know?
Mainly cause i'm keeping it "slow"...

If i have the confidence that they wont "melt" on me i can be a lil faster and then i'm set

Quote from andy_bonjon :Pressures where max and live camber would have been about 2.6 front and 2.2 rear.... however those are just guesses! Unfortunately Im not at home and i wont be back until about 23.30 gmt tonight

my set was fairly soft as i was still learning back then both how to drive and how to do setups... however i know the top guys didnt change tyres either and they were using only slightly modified hl setups

if you want the replay check out www.vixenchallenge.co.uk and if you look in the forums section you should be able to find a link to the replay there

2.6 and 2.2?
positive, negative?
help me out here

Yeah, i've got someone else to go to the market for me so i can test things out.

Quote from andy_bonjon :
For the FOX you will almost never have to use anything other than R1s in any race provided you adjust pressures and camber accordingly

Could you share with me yor camber and pressures for that setup, sir?

If you guys can do it, MAYBE i can too.
I just need the info to tweak my setup.

Btw if you have a .mpr (replay) from that race you mentioned i would be very interested.

Thanks man.

Quote from AndroidXP :I have no idea about what the FOX on BL1 is like, but I'm pretty sure R1 tyres can last through that distance. This, however, is mostly down to the driver and his driving style. Usually the drivers coming close to WR pace have much longer lasting tyres because of how smooth and error-less they drive.

Anyhow, some time ago I was driving 15 lappers on SO Long with the FOX, and while it seemed crazy at first, as soon as I got better and more importantly consistent, I started noticing the heatcycles of the tyre. After a few laps the tyres are slightly overheated (greenish orange on F9 view), but then they stabilize and slowly start cooling down again. At the 15th lap, there was still plenty of tread left and the tyres weren't even nearly finished cooling down, so they could've lasted quite a bunch more laps.

On sprint races you usually don't drive long enough to see that cool down phase, so you think that the R1 tyres would just heat up even more and that they are at their limit after 5-6 laps, which is obviously far from the truth. Again, I don't know how stressful BL1 is for the R1 tyres (compared to SO4), but in my opinion 22 laps should be quite doable.

Yeah, i know what you mean.
But with my current setup and "driving style" (the way i learned to work this track) i've tested it already and can't do 22 laps. Thus that's why i need help, R2s or even maybe a improved R1 situation.. i dunno.

Thanks for the insight, anyway.

Quote from flyby3d :Yep, I agree...

Unfortunately now I'm not able to run a test on BL, but yesterday I was practicing my next race on FOX@SOLong and I run 22laps with R1

EDIT: Have you tried using R1 with lower camber (around 2.4front 2.0rear)? Sometimes also lowering (slightly) tire pressure will have better grip, thus less sliding and less heat buildup...

When you say lower you mean negative? Or positive?
Gimme some numbers and i sure will try those.

Also, you see that i work with full (max) pressure on my hotlap set, right?
What pressure would you suggest?

Thanks.

Now i'm heading for the market and won't be able to test anything for about one and a half hour or so, but i will get cracking on it, guaranteed.

Quote from Blackout :Ok, Im crap with the combo. Sorry

Ohh.. but crappier than me you couldn't possibly be..
Anyway i'm not looking for faster times, or a setup that"ll make me faster or something.

I just need my tyres working properly.
With a good temperature and lasting 22 laps...

Do you have any idea of how i can manage that?

Thanks for your time already, tho.

Quote from flyby3d :From my experience with the FOX, i'm rather surprised that you are looking to use R2.
I managed (like all the others in the race we deed last week) to complete 18 laps at AS Hist with R1, without problems.

You should be able to do it on BL easily.

Maybe it's my driving style but no, "you" can't.
I drove 36 laps ar SO Classic on R1s.
30 laps on KY Nat, on R1s.
32 laps on WE Rev, on R1s again.

All of those with no problems whatsoever and still going "fast".

It's just this damn blackwood tha really doesn't seem to go well with R1s at that lenght.

IF you have the time man, do some laps there, say 15, going fast, you"ll see what i mean.

Quote from Blackout :You might want to attach the setup itself instead of the values of your tires, I'm no setup guru but I'm sure the suspension setup also has a word to say in this tire matter
Like said I'm no setup guru, but I just usually have higher setup and less camper and it, most of the time, works. It might not be optimum , one point to note is that the fresh tires will heat up first and when they get thinner the temps will drop, not sure if that 22 laps distance is enough to show that thou, atleast Blackwood has long straight to cool down the tires. Your style also has a great effect how your tires will heat up, remember that.

There goes the setup, chief.
http://maxupload.com/B50731699

As i said, i'm really ignorant when it comes to setups, heh.
I know i"ll be slower on R2s (even heated ones) but if possible i don't want to change a whole lot on the setup apart from the tyres or else since i won't be used to the setup i won't be able to do consistent lap times...

If you can, take a look at it and tell me what i should try.
Edit: I'm interested in tyres lasting longer, and not faster times.

Thanks.
