Quote from Bob Smith :It's true, I so want a properly motorway modelled in LFS. Oh yeah. Grr.

Although preferably without the toll booths in the middle of a high speed section. But starting from somewhere like that would be great. Makes a reverse track awkward though. Point to point! Oh randomness.

Autobahn was also my favorite in that game.

The LFS tracks are in between that ultra smooth surface and a very poor, nordschleiffe?, surface.

Now they are all much alike.

There could be much more difference between the different tracks just by making the tracks have their own track smoothness.

False starts are very nice...

Clutch preload is great!

It really does make the cars handle more like real cars. Transfers like throttle to brake or even throttle off/on don't upset the cars balance so much anymore!

After optimizing the cars setup the handling of LFS's cars should be even better.

(Never would have dreamt all this would come so quick! Great work!)

How do you project that on the wall, without getting your shadow on the image?

It's very nice. Would be sweet with at least widescreen or two projectors for more view at the sides.

Thanks for your response EK.

Lowering the mip bias, making it more negative, does seem to reduce the lines. The white patch however stays, and wasn't there with the standard textures.

I've been noticing some popups of cones and bollards. Not sure if it was the same before patch W.

Quote from Davo :I can see how using virtual dials and not seeing your mirrors is realistic lol

Hmm you're sort of looking out of the windscreen as usual in a car

I also have widescreen, 24"CRT, and used to play with that sort of FOV.

Now however I've switched to 50-55 degrees FOV. Only downside is now I have to use virtual dials and I can't see the side mirrors. But, it's so much more realistic, and easier to drive optimal lines for me!

Ps. My monitor has just started giving some problems since last week, flashes and thin diagonal line, so I'll be looking for a replacement.

Hi Electrik

I'm using all your High-res track texture packs.

Only with aston I have some issues. However on your screenshots it is OK

I've attached some screens;

Screen 1; strange white patch ahead
Screen 2 and 3; strange lines on road surface.

Thanks for all your work

Yes, I mean vsync on doesn't help the situation. Still the same stutters.

Hmm..
This is rather funny because I haven't seen anyone mentioning stuttering of frames and sound with V6.
However I have this problem on two different pc's since the upgrade from V5 -> V6.

System1; AMD athlon 64 3400+ and ATI 9800PRO
System2; AMD athlon 64 3200+ and ATI 9600XT

System2 is effected the most and you can spot some short delays in just a few seconds. The FPS however stay in the 75-85 range.

With system1 it's not so obvious, so maybe 1 min. it runs as it should but there are some definate, short delays in both sound and frames once in a while. The FPS however is in the 95-110 range. Vsync on, 93Hz, doesn't help.

I have used all the testpatches from V1 up to V6 with no problems. Before V6 LFS ran a smooth as possible on both pc's as you would expect from such FPS.

I know this won't be able to help you with something concrete. But I just thought I should let you know.

(All these observations have been made in single player mode)

Hmm.. going over 100% won't actually increase the strength.
When your running 60% the forces become unrealistic. Try 110-120%.

The lag your talking about has more to do with the speed of your pc I guess.

Absolutely have overal force in windows set at ca. 112%!

Others at 0% and centering deselected.

Just change the force level in LFS with the < and > buttons.

This should bring out the curbs and a lot of other details.

Quote from Bob Smith :MillerM - weird, I've got B&Ws too (never tested on anything else) and the new sounds seem much less muffled and more like an engine to me. Must just be a personal preference thing.

It's really strange because on the pc speakers DaveWS's sounds make the engines sound like engines. But on my hifi they give them a more synthesized sound.

So actually the complete opposite. I totally don't understand it.

I've tried your sounds DaveWS, version 2.

First I tried them on my dads PC with some ordinary PC-speakers. And I must say it sounds great and very realistic also what is a great achievement. A huge improvement.

However when I tried them on my own PC, connected to a hifi with B&W speakers, they sound odd. The resulting sound is somehow completely different. This is without using any EQ what so ever.

After comparing them A->B with the original LFS sounds I must honestly say that, on my hifi, the originals are better/more realistic.

It seems that with good hardware you can allready hear more detail in the original sounds.

They do sound great however on average PC speakers.

Rtsbasic made the adapter for me.

The DFP handles the 35cm wheel easily.

Quote from Kegetys :Do you have a souce for that? Here it says:

It would seem quite dumb to have support for such large render targets but not being able to render to them.

No

Yeah it seems its different for different generations.

This should clear things up

People,

Ati videocards have a maximum horizontal rendering limit of 2400 pixels.

So in practice this means 2400x600.. 3 times 800x600.

Maybe this can explain some of your problems. Although It should only effect you if the primary/rendering card is an ATI.

-SoftTH is an increadible peace of work and I cannot wait to play with it.
I first need to upgrade to PCI-Express and NVIDIA cards. However i'll wait a while for LCD's to get cheaper. I'm not in that much of a hurry with a 24" CRT at 1920x1200.

I would like to try eDimensional shutter glasses but unfortunately they are, also, not fully functional with ATI cards.-

Great stuff.

I've allways been using 100% 0% 0% and centering selected at 0%.

Now I use 112% 0% 0% and centering deselected, MUCH more real!!

I'm not talking about any shifts. Just when braking in gear or even when releasing throttle the rear wheels become way to loose in general.
MillerM

Quote from DaveWS :Could this be a setup issue, perhaps if you try moving to brake bias more to the front wheels?

I understand that. But I mean in general, so with all cars and all different setups. I think the issue is maybe the tyres having to much grip with more weight on them or either (more likely to me) too little grip when having less weight on them.

I definately feel this is a huge difference between driving in real life and in LFS. But I have never seen anyone mention it before.

Is it just me that under weight transfer to the front when braking or lifting throttle, the rear wheels get too little grip?

Indeed.. FOX is great!

Overal there is a massive improvement in sound every testpatch since U32! U36 is the best ever! Only I did prefer the slightly more dampened sound on the FZ5, it seemed more like a road-going porsche.

Anyway great work. Happy holidays!

There is indeed a very loud midbass with some cars. Even with volume down, so I can hardly hear anything, it's still loud. (This is with no equalisation whatsoever on a very neutral soundsystem.)
MillerM

I must say the sounds are very promising. I feel many people are unrealisticly difficult about them.

Overal my opinion is, listening on a high end soundsystem;
The sound now consists of so many more details and it feels much more like real life. Which is the ultimate goal of this SIM. Skid soundlevel is perfect as standard, you really can tell the skids are coming from outside the car.

Allready I like it a lot more. I see how much is possible by just equalizing/mixing what we have now. Yes some cars sound a bit off. But overal it is increadible for what is a new sound system. And the system is great. The sounds delivered in this testpatch are more than good enough in showing the potential.

(And I never drive the BF1 anyway)

I'd start at 540 degrees.

Use Select+R3+Left paddle to select 60% FFB mode on the DFP.

In control panel have everything deselected and at 0% except; Degrees of rotation "540", check enable overal FFB and overal FFB strength at 100%.

Choose your force strength within LFS with the "<" and ">" buttons.

Too much oversteer when exiting is either to little lock or to much throttle.

Now just practice
