As a current member of the GFC in a FOX and doing quite nicely in the league I'd encourage newbies who are after good, clean racing to apply.

I started the GFC with very little LFS experience and have hugely improved over the past few months learning new tracks and racing with very experienced guys.

Pure speed isn't that crucial if you race consistently and fairly.

I'm not the only slower runner who's doing well either - there's several of us.

Also, there seems to be a portion of drivers that are clearly either, not experianced enough to race in the CTRA system, or just plan bad, I remember there is a certain percentage of the laptime that needs to be adheared to or the driver is kicked, maybe this percentage needs to be looked at, or a percentage of races completed, yellow flags, blue flags or a compalation of all.

I wasn't aware of this but would suggest it should be no less than 106%

Well I can definitely recommend:

+1

but making sure it's an option in LFS.

I've been wanting this for ages.

It's a pain manually uploading laps!

Rick,

You're right, it's a pain but as you get faster you'll start further up the grid and the quality of racing is higher there although you still often get non-brakers into T1.

I wish the reporting system was simpler and/or there was a way for CTRA to auto ban (of course this is complex and I'd never expect it to happen).

nonetheless, it's a super system.

Personally I think "idiot" should be added to the banned list.

It is used often.

RE: Event Viewer - go :

All programs/Administrative Tools/Event Viewer and see if there are any error relating to the time of the last crash.

Sorry - should have suggested this when you first mentioned the problem.
Lap Display to show Laps complete by Leader

This would be incredibly simple to program (I guess) but would be hugely beneficial to those a few laps down in races.

The number of times I've seen people ask the question in a race.

+1 for animated pit crew + defined pit boxes for each racer.

would make the game much more realistic.

Quote from Hankstar :Some people around here are like the frickin' paparazzi. How are the devs' earnings anyone's business, or even relevant to the game? Sheesh. Get a hobby

he he.. And some are so damned tetchy!

anyway, I agree. Let's move on.

FWIW, I really like the points system.

It gives equal chance to beginners willing to put the commitment in, as faster drivers who mightn't turn up for every event.

I think GF should be praised for having the kudos to try something a bit different. It might not work but as he says it can be reviewed at the end of the season.

A league isn't just about pace but commitment and stamina!

Quote from AndroidXP :Yes, it has. And it's more like 40000-50000 licenses.
Anyhow, if there is someone who has to care about the finances then it's the devs themselves - all that is none of our business.

Clearly but it's still interesting to understand some of the background.

I'm sure everyone has some kind of interest in it even if they claim not to have ;-)

P.S. I'd be grateful if people could alert me to the specific threads as this is a classic instance where searching isn't terrible helpful.
LFS economics for devs

I was just thinking about the business side of LFS since the devs need to eat and look after home/family etc...

Just wondered where LFS generates revenue/profit?

Clearly the biggie is the S2 licenses.

I'd guess somewhere around 10,000 S2 licenses have been sold.

That being the case it translates to revenue of £240,000. Plenty for the time being but as it's a one-off payment it doesn't lend itself to the devs being able to live and develop LFS for ever.

Clearly, it is worthwhile for the devs but also interesting to ask the question.

If it has been covered before I apologise.

Do you reboot your PC before playing LFS?

If not, I'd recommend doing that.

I've never had this particular problem but Windows is pretty flaky at the best of times and doing a complete reboot will clear everything out.

IF you have less than 1.5Gb of RAM it could be the virtual memory churning away in the background.

Quote from tombarlin :nigle your were banned for constant crashing and getting in the way of the leaders. Also id likie to say yes we will kick slower drivers if another team member is wanting to join the server as kieren rightly put (thanks btw lol) its ours we can do what we want with it

I which case I suggest you ban pretty much everyone else in that race as I was barged off three of four times!

How long does the ban last?

I was actually enjoying my time there.

Kieran,

Yes, I was witness to all that nonsense!

Another example of poor admin.

You clearly said sorry but they pushed and pushed to ban you until someone saw sense.

I however wasn't so lucky - they just booted me out!

Quote from keiran :You're ignoring the fact they pay for the server. They can do what they want. Condisering the server is almost always full I'd say that most people are happy enough.

Yes, it's a good server and I enjoyed racing there but the admin leaves a lot to be desired.

Quote from Gentlefoot :As I said, if those running the server choose to bann people who's names start with G for example, that's their perogative. Find another server.

And the excuse that it is the only one running that combo is ridiculous. Just go to an empty server with the cars that you want that also lets you choose tracks. and choose whatever track you like.

Not when it's the only competitive one racing.

Mauni,

You are right but there are some servers that are particularly unfair and deserve mentioning.

Note that last night this was the only server running the BLGP/FOX combo with anyone on as well so makes it awkward if you want to race a particular set.

All I'm asking for is that admins give a little bit.

Deliberate wreckers of course - ban them!

Others who might not intentionally cause harm - maybe just warn them.
Bad Servers

We have lists of bad drivers/wreckers but is there also a case for having bad servers listed i.e. where folk seem to be banned indiscriminately?

I'd say it might be a worthy thing to include somewhere on site.

At least to discuss/debate the problems.

see :

http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=10750
http://www.lfsforum.net/showth ... ight=%22redline+racing%22

for examples of one such particular team that seems to ban without genuine reason of late.

Redline Racing definitely have a problem IMHO.

I also got banned last night for trying to get back on the track after being punted off by another driver! But was given no explanation!

Accidents happen for christsakes!

Did the other driver get banned? Nope.

I'm assuming they have a little cliche going on and decide who they want on and off. interesting that the server was full at the time so I reckon one of their pals wanted to get on.

Not sporting behaviour IMHO but if you don't like it don't race there is I guess what they will say.
