Even a AMD 3800x2 is faster than your 2800+ using just one core. The increased memory bandwidth secures that the cpu is getting data to process. By the way I can´t think about using a quad core cpu nowadays without wasting money. What you´re up to ? Watching HDTV + Downloading + Playing LFS + Converting Videos... at the same time?
Go for a dualcore, Coreduo 6550-6750, it will be sufficient. By the way the quad will need more power.
2 inches are 2 inches... the advantage of a 22 " is the vertical space you get compared to a 20 " TFT.
Besides, running at 1680x1050 deserves 22"!
Changing colors on TN panels isn´t such a big deal. Mine (Acer2216W) doesn´t change the colors much. Why should you shift your head from left to right all the time?
If you can race in single player, why should it be the gc in multiplayer? The card doesn´t do anything else. Check your network connection, ports, firewalls etc.
1 GB cache? I won´t overclock my notebook, because of the risk of overheating. In case you insist doing so, you should really know what you are doing, so read through multiple technichal manuals.
What about selling your notebook and getting a desktop pc, which will be much faster?
The problem with pentium 4s is its inefficiency. Don´t let yourself fool by the 2,6 Ghz. Even my Athlon 3200+ running at 2,4 Ghz is a lot faster and that´s an old cpu. At least it gives framerates 50-60 in full grid.
Just an idea: What refresh rate are you running? May be 70 or 75 Hz? Set it to 60 Hz. And check if you don´t override the rate via the control panel or river tuner.
I abandonded my 5.1 set from my desk, because I started to think I´m getting deaf! The surround speakers were to near to my ears, so it would almost hurt after a while. Problem is, I just got one set of ears...
Good PC Sound Speakers are expensive. I changed my audio equipment to a cheap amp + 2 Magnat 100w + passive Subwoofer and it´s fine for gaming and hearing music.
Best racing game ever using surround sound was Burnout 3 on PS2. The sound of passing cars was very realistic and you could hear cars behind you coming.
I guess milliseconds aren´t possible, because of the 100 FPS limit. The place a car is on track can be only measured a 100 times a second. Milliseconds would mean measuring the car position a 1000 times per second.
Other games giving milliseconds often give the same times again and again, I think that´s because, the measured times are not real, but simulated.
I have a knoppix live cd, but though I installed the nvida driver, Beryl doesn´t work.
When I go back to XP, I have to reboot 5 times until windows loads.
I know it´s a fake, but unitl now I am not convinced of linux. I don´t need it for internet and games. And installing the drivers via command line is really out of date, even if you get more control. I can remember the old DOS days and I am glad these times are over.
Why doesn´t it work? I have now 4 desktops which I can change very fast, there haven´t been any crashes yet. For me it works perfectly. I don´t need 3D Windows, because this is mere eye candy.
