Do the pedals work in the "Systemsteuerung/Gamecontroller" menu?
If yes, start LFS, go to controls and select FF/Axes. Now, when you press a pedal you should see the slider for the pressed axis on the right side.
Select throttle on the left and assign the pedal on the right to it (it´s the one with the moving slider). Maybe you have to invert the input with the "invert" button. Do the same with the brake control.
By the way, the pedals seem to have a problem, because there is no analog input. So you probably won´t be able to have much fun playing LFS. If you are seriously into racing and you can afford it, get the DFP. It´s worth it!
I changed my wheel settings to 100/0/0/0/540 in the CP and to 20 % in LFS and I have to admit that I seem to have more car control because of more feedback. But I have to use the soft FF (Select-R3-L1). So I learned something and this thread wasn´t useless!
It seems almost everyone uses more FF than me.
But shouldn´t be the wheel rotation very light, so that I don´t have to push against the motors? I can remember playing GT3 where I used to play with much more FF, but the FF was different. It felt right, but that amount of FF in LFS doesn´t feel right.
I´ve read several times that people have set there FF-settings to maximum.
My setting using the DFP Pro is: intensity: 40/20/20/20 % 360° in Logitech Gaming Software and 75 % in LFS.
Some people seem to have set there intensity setting to 150 or even 200 and 100 % in LFS. Ok, you´ll feel every stone driving over, but is that realistic?
Normally, you can drive a car with two fingers, you don´t need much strength due to servo drive.
Using my settings, I can feel the curbs, the sand and the FF tells me when my back is coming around well.
What the hell nvidia thinks bringing the 8600 GT/GTS with a 128 bit bus?
That´s a huge bottleneck.
My suggestion: Giving them the 256 bit bus would lead to a FPS nearly the high end cards, because the current games doensn´t take whole advantage of the GC´s new architecture.
I for myself will never buy a x600 nvidia again. My 6600 GT was fast enough for most games, then I got Half Life 2, Splinter Cell 3 and Far Cry and couldn´t play the games with high settings.
Save some more money a few months and go for the second high level cards. Having bought the 7800 GT instead of the 7600 GT was the best decision I could think of.
AI is constantly crashing on purpose! Blackwood T1, for instance, 5-6 cars crash into each other. Cars keep bumping me off track out of the racing line!
I am convinced the 400 Mhz make a notable difference bearing in mind that our beloved 3200+ isn´t the fastest nowadays.
I´ve tested the FPS with complete AI grid at Blackwood being last. The lowest
framerate I got was 48-49, but mostly 57-60 with cars before and behind.
Have you tried to turn vsync off? Could be interesting to find out if your GC will go beyond 100 FPS. As you said, I also don´t believe you GC is the bottleneck.
I will do some testing online.
2,4 Ghz are nice, because you can run you RAM at 400 Mhz, too.
I also have a A64 3200+ and only a 7800 GT and have never experienced 30 FPS in or behind full grid, I have at least 45 FPS, 1280x1024, 4x AA, 16x AF. What is more I have hires skies, reflection mod, elektric kar´s hires textures mod installed which uses 80 MB graphic´s card memory.
Maybe you could overclock your CPU and GC, on your own risk.
My 3200+ is running at 2,4 Ghz instead of 2 Ghz and my GC 470/1150 instead of 400/1000 Mhz.
Since LFS needs a lot of CPU power overclocking will give you more FPS.
If you need any help just ask. By the way, your GC is faster than your CPU! After overclocking mine I got 15 FPS more playing Far Cry for instance, because before the CPU was to slow for my GC.
I don´t recognize any frame drops using your awesome hires textures. Keep it going! I´m already looking forward to the south city pack! Thanks for the effort!
Athlon 3200+ 2,4 GHZ, Point of View 7800 GT 470/1150, 1 GB PC3200 400 Mhz RAM.
Maybe another driver could be the solution, the newest one´s aren´t always the best! What about a tweaked driver from this site (works fine for my nvidia):
With you gc you should always use 16xAF, maybe this could reduce some flickering and will give you much more sharper textures. Check the gc´s temperature. If you have overclocked reset.
I cant´t understand why people are constantly discussing about the graphics!
Using 1280x1024, 4xAA, 16xAF, Trancparency-AA: Multisampling + Hires skies and hires skin and packs, my LFS look far better and more realistic than GTR 2.
GTR 2 looks arcade like, it´s to colorful, for my taste.
Pimping LFS makes a huge difference!
Why LFS is the best simulation? GT4 plays like an arcade racer compared to LFS.
It´s like Colin McRae compared to Richard Burns Rallye. First one totally arcade, second one almost too realistic and very challenging.
I´ve never had such pop ups in LFS running 1280x1024, 4xAA, 16xAF, maximum detail + hires skies and hires texture pack except one pop up that always appears: Crossing the finishing line at Blackwood the tribune beside the first chicane is always drawn visibly, no matter what level of detail.
The hires mirrors add is a tiny but great innovation!
Since is use vsync because of my tft, I usually have 60 FPS. At the start it doesn´t go below 50. Having turned vsync off I get 140 FPS, with full grid about 90 FPS.
But playing with vsync turned on is much more fun, because even if there is no tearing without vsync the perception of speed is less fluid caused by the leaps of FPS.
The question is: What the hell do I need 140 FPS, when my tft only shows 60 FPS? In addition to that games are more fluid at constant 60 FPS.
The nvidia 91.31 stereo driver works fine with my xtreme-G 92.91 nivida graphic card driver, offering very good image qualitity and performance.
So you don´t have to use the buggy 91.31 nvida driver to get the stereo effects! The colors are slightly washed out, because red and blue are filtered, but it´s far away from being monochrome.
Does it support 75 Hz at 1440x900? If it does try another driver. If this won´t work, well, this is windows. But keep in mind (I promise I will do it in the future):
Don´t mess around with your system settings, if everything´s working fine.
Never change a running system!
I had to do several Windows re-installations just because of trying out so many useless things like beta drivers or system tuning.
Sounds strange, but anyway, since you are using a TFT there is no need to run it at 70 or 75 Hz. Use 60 Hz, because most TFTs are built do be used that way and the image won´t be better with higher frequencies.
Moreover, most TFTs have an internal pixelclock running at 60 Hz, so forcing them to 70 or 75 Hz doesn´t make sense at all.
