1280x1024 and a 8800 ultra...

That´s a total wast of money!

Save your money and get the DFP. It´s really worth the extra money. You can adjust it to the cars real wheel turn and it´s of better quality.

I just wanted to express my astonishment about people who don´t support the developers by buying the game constantly complain about the game!

Was I sarcastic? Yes, but after having read so many complaints and whining by demo racers (We can´t drift any more for free!!!) I think I have the right to act like that.

What would the devolopers of Crysis say, ig people who only want to play the demo kept demanding features they are not willed to pay for?

Since you are a demo racer, it doesn´t matter what you think. Even licensed racers are only supposed to suggest improvements or post constructive criticism.

Lower you AA to 4x, that´s more than enough depending on the resolution of course. Set the Z-Buffer to "24" in LFS. Make sure you haven´t enabled the optimizations in the driver panel.
Set the Negative LOD Bias settings in the driver panel to "clamp".

Try to enhance your mip bias to 0. Disable "dither".

Last thing you could try is change back to an old driver, because the new drivers don´t care about old card´s image quality. I still use 92.91 from xtreme G with my 7800 GT. Having tried new drivers don´t change the image quality, but won´t allow me to overclock without crappy ntune. The new control panel is a pain in the arse, too.

Strange list, examples:

The 7800 GT is mostly faster in games than a 8600 GTS, even if this card should win synthetic benchmarks.

The 6600 GT is a lot faster than a 7300 GT.

The 7900 GT is much faster than a 8600 GTS.

LFS supports TrackIR by default. All you have to do is set the "Look function" to "axis".

But a head tracking system can be build much cheaper. I build mine lately out of an eye-toy cam and a usb lamp, works perfectly. It takes a time to get used to it, but now I won´t drive without it, because it gives you a more natural race feeling. Sitting in a real car you turn your head at corners, too.

Take a look at this:

You can use 1 to 4 lamps. With 1 lamp you can only look left/right and up/down, which is enough for racing IMHO.

2 lamps give you the possibility to "roll" your head, so the view turns left/right, more for flight simulations.

3 lamps make you go forwards and backwards.

4 lamps is an old setup. Go to free-track.net, there´s a good description.

I use the eye toy cam for capturing the lamp signal.

The lamp I use is an USB flexible led light. Mine is a promotion article my mother gave me as a gift for xmas.
You can use any usb lamp like this one, I actually think it´s the same I have.

http://cgi.ebay.de/UK-USB-Flex ... ewItem?_trksid=p1638.m122

For the headtracking I use old headphones with cut of speakers and a stripe of foam for a better fit on my head.

On free-track.net is a list of suitable webcams, because you need as least 46 degrees of focus.

If your camera can do 1420 compression instead of RGB, tracking will work even better. Settings in freetrack - camera - stream.

Costs for my head tracking: 9,49 EUR for an USB extension.

First of all, there is no need to get 120 FPS with a screen refresh rate of 60 hz. Your LCD is able to show 60 pictures per second, so the ideal framerate is 60 FPS.

Thus turn vsync on, set framerate limit to 62-66, and spare the gained processing power for AA, AF and resolution.

The frame skipping sounds like vsync turned on, are you sure you haven´t forced it via driver?

Please test this setup and report back.
Forgert Wii remote, use eye toy and a usb lamp!

I didn´t think it would be that easy to build a TrackIR System on my own in a few minutes.

First you have to download FreeTrack, run the setup for your webcam (eye toy cam), put it on your monitor, set Look Function in LFS to axis, wind a flexible usb lamp round some old headphones and watch around in LFS by using the head. Works quite well, I just need a longer usb cable for the lamp.

Quote from keiran :I don't understand peoples problems at the start of races. 9 times out of 10 I can work my way through the field with minimal contact yet you'll always get the loud mouthed ones shouting off the in the server about getting `wrecked.` Then when I've spec'd to watch them 9 times out of 10 it's there fault they are getting caught up.

I'll start from back/mid-field/front and have very few problems.

Rules of race starts
1. Don't jam your brakes on for no reason... if your unsure where to brake then brake gently
2. Always know where the other cars are around you by using left/right and behind views
3. Don't hesitate, keep your line if you can and don't start diving for silly gaps
4. Cars spinning ahead = slow down NOT pile into them full throttle
5. Hold the inside line, that way you make people go the long way round and wont find yourself getting forced out wide at T1...

Those are the steps I take and I very rarely find myself involved in any contact at T1...

At the end of the day `shit happens` if you get knocked at the start of the race just continue driving. I hate the ones who spend the whole race doing `shift + r` when if they had just kept going they'd have only lost about 5secs.

I don´t break for no reason, but if there´s a corner to come and 3 cars in front of me, I have to. I can´t do nothing about the cars behind me trying to take the corner 30 km/h too fast and crashing into me.
I´m using my mirrors and the keys to look around very thoroughly. I can´t remember bumping into somone when coming out of the pit.
Even on straights people drive into my side, when they recognize they can´t overtake.

They game itself isn´t arcadish, but the people who play it define it.

There are many gentle people out there, but sometimes I don´t have the patience to jump from server to server to find them.

Having raced today on BL1 FOX I never read "Sorry".
IS this LFS being arcade? Huge grids.

I´ve been away from online LFS for quite a time and I´m no hardcore racer, but I´ve been playing much offline for training.

It´s a nice idea having huge grids, but I rarely do have fun with it.
Now, trying to race on public servers in 4 races out of 5 I´m pushed from behind in corners, chicanes and even on straights!

I mostly start at top of the field, S1 comes and 5 idiots rush into me, getting through the first corner is like a lottery.

So what´s the difference between LFS and NFS? Getting constantly wrecked makes LFS being almost an arcade game, it´s not the driving it´s avoiding the wreckage!

People are so dumb, in a field of 20 cars I easily drive to the 5th place when I was bumped out starting 17th, because people slide off the track all the time. But that isn´t racing anymore.

People should be banned for bumping into a car in front 2x in a row.

So the only way of racing clean is to join almost empty servers.

I´m really pissed.

Quote from Polyracer :Coming from games like GTR 2, GT Legends, and rFactor etc, I like the feel of LFS, but the sounds are well iffy and compare miserably with Simbin/blimey games.

Also there is no sound made when you run over kerbs etc, which is not very good for bass shakers.

But I like the feel of the cars and you have to drive properly to get good times, as a "sim" should do.

I miss the real cars and tracks - but the driving is good and online competition is great.

I doubt that you have to drive properly to get good times. Whenever I go with someone really fast from cockpit view there´s sliding and drifting through the corners. You just have to know where you can do it.
I have the impression my so called clean driving makes me slow most of the time.

B - or is shoving someone out of the way fair racing?

That happens to me very often, followed by silly comments like : "What a noob!" or "No Mirrors?".

To many drivers braking means losing. Sad but true.

Maybe it´s time to get rid of the "demo user racing community".

Just allow 30 Minutes LFS online per day, you can test the game and if you like it, buy it.

I think the devs are too generous to demo users which is shown by the massive abuse of the intention of a demo version.

Quote from Resound :Young enough? I'm 37 and if I didn't have the cash for an S2 license I'd probably ask my wifeto buy it for my birthday or Christmas. Smile You're never too old for presents or LFS

So next goal should be to ask your wife to buy you a DFP. Or even better, buy it by yourself! Don´t let your wife decide over your life! Your 37, stand up for your rights!

Merry Xmas! Tilt

I have driven about 800 km the last 2 days using the FBM and I never burned the clutch, so what are people doing?

When I take a look at my shelf I see many games I bought that I haven´t really played or haven´t played a long time.

But I always come back to LFS and I´m not a hardcore racer! Knowing LFS is simply there to pick it up some time is what I need!

Patch Y is a great step of development, I like to think about shifting!

Have you tried to set the resolution manually?

Open cfg.txt and scroll to

Screen Info 0 60 1680 1050 (Your resolution has to be entered here).

Try your desktop resolution first.

0 stands for the graphic adapter
60 stands for frequency, take one that works for sure.

Maybe it´s the FF-setting. Turning the wheel shouldn´t be hard, Force Feeedback should give you information about the track and the car. It shouldn´t force you to fight against the wheel.

Kart racing is different, a few rounds can be very hard!

I wonder how people reach 215-220 km/h running the SO Chicane straight. I have a setup able to run 1.05.xx and can´t go faster than 1.09.10 reaching a top speed of 204 km/h.

Why don´t the developers open LFS for new tracks created by users? Lately, I played GTR 2 racing on the user created track "Nordschleife" and it was amazing! What´s the point not to permit this? There are new tracks for almost every racing game available. Old discussion, I guess.
