Guess it comes to us having to continue renting a rackservice server just to use airio. Because then we get benefits of full airio, plus all FM servers on same airio.
We will however trim from 3 lfs servers to 2, to offset the cost.
So we can:
1.) Host full airio on other server and connect to lfs hosted server. That means more costs for hosting.
2.) Run free airio and lose some functionality
So after doing some racing with old GP car (massive fun car to drive) I've got a bugging feeling that something was off.
I cant say what, just a feeling that tyres didnt really connect to the road as I would expect them to, especially as the pressure they were. That high tyre on that kind of pressure, you'd expect it to sag a bit on bottom and move around a bit on corners, but it didnt.
I had 100 kpa front tyres.
Maybe im just talking bullshit, but its whats on my mind.
only that there are few problems with races you, me or anyone else organizes and that you can see in leagues section.
They are at a given time and date. You cant just hop into LFS when it suits you and have a fun race, you need to organize your day around LFS, so you can race.
And if you race for fun, with no experience, chances are you will be left for dust, or not even able to qualify.
What LFS needs is pickup racing with track rotations, something like AA is doing, but with single car class on track and like 10 minute races at max. Then anyone who hops online could have fun. But to make it happen you need racers...alot of them. Once LFS picks up enough interest to attract 2000 racers every day for more than 30 minutes, then the ball will start rolling and it will start to grow again.
At the moment, all you can do is exactly what you, mrc, b2r, at, tam, fm, ndr and the rest are doing - organize one race per day at the time slot where you can guarantee atleast 15 cars on grid and try to have some fun. And nothing wrong with that...we're just doing the best we can with what we got.
But its a really good argument when someone says "we need more stuff cause I'm bored with existing".
Brutal reality is, some people (most people) will get bored whatever you do, only if you feed them new content every week, maybe then they will be ok. Its not a personal dig at anyone, its just a human trait. I've got a friend who cant play one game more than 2 days, everything gets boring really fast to him, while on other side i could drive same combo every day and it'll be ok, as long as there is content within content to work with.
Content within content - racing other cars, developing setup, chasing time, perfecting racing line, making race setup.
Its that content within content where LFS excells for me, and why i think people ask for more basic content (track, cars). If you get a superb race, you could drive uf1..it will still be fun and not boring. And that's why iRacing is less boring. More racing.
Not being aero overhaul, but can you add a wing to mod car? Is there a property of lift and drag for the wing you make? Can you add a diffuser to modded car?
Or are mods for now limited only to cars without aero?
And i thought we are closer as i was under impression graphics and physics are being worked on fully in last year or so, but this update shows that is not the case.
To be fair its only me talking, we still didnt do any internal talk about it.
I need few days to wrap my head around the fact that we are not nearer, but further away from any meaningfull update to the racing side of the game than i thought.
If old version works... just stay on current one..
I see no reason why team like Fragmaster should ever think of a switch to new version.
No changes to FOX, no changes to GTI cars, no changes tracks or the way cars drive. Only change i see that will be seen in Fragmaster servers operation is more expensive hosting.
