messed up broadband?

for the last week or so, my internet has been reeeeeally slow - going between normal speed one minute to refusing to load a page the next - apparently for no reason. i thought it might be that i'd spend too long on the internet so it was payback time from BT, but surely at the start of the month it should reset itself or something.

so is there any way of checking if the engine will actually work (when all you have is the engine by itself)?

ok, so does 100-200 quid for a gsxr/fireblade engine sound reasonable then?

ok. how much would you say is a reasonable amount to spend on an engine given our budget? (found a few possible engines online, and want to know if they're too pricey (or suspiciously cheap)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v ... TL&videos=44ZBQ_Ltkp4 sorry to keep reposting this but its sorta what we're basing our design on. would a pickup have suspension/brakes etc like this?

thanks, we're gonna ask the guy now. not sure where we'd get a snowmobile engine in england though

anyone got an idea where/what we can get shocks, brakes etc. from?

ok, so what size/make/model of bike engine should i be looking for?

also, i don't think making 2 is going to be practical, as its just a summer project.

thanks for all the advice/tips/links. i've been looking around for parts and not having too much luck to be honest. does anyone know any good sites/people to go to to find what we're looking for? (decided on a more off roading type thing, like this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v ... TL&videos=DeT2opx3Lak)

also, does anyone know any good magazines (with classifieds) for this type of vehicle. i looked in smiths with no luck (although farm machinery enthusiasts were well catered for :irked

d'oh! oh well worth a try!

also, is anyone here doing A2 DT? was thinking we might be able to make this our coursework project, which would also solve the problem of WHERE to build it.

Quote from Intrepid :Where exactly do you want to run your creation? Mud or tarmac?

why did you delete the first bit of your comment? actually, its more a question of where CAN we run it. a bit of both preferably, like a buggy that can go reasonably fast on tarmac

i know it sounds stupid, but you can't say it wouldn't be cool! anyways, if/when we get going with this i'll make this the progress thread as well

as i say as big as possible, was thinking maybe 500 or 750cc, but want one that won't blow up my spine/wreck the handling. i want like a racing car/rally car in kart form rather than a dragster

Quote from bunder9999 :might want to look at motorcycle engines then, they should give a decent amount of output without resorting to a car engine.

Quote from bunder9999 :depending on weight, try looking around the 15-20 hp range... most go karts i've seen use >=5 hp engines.

we were thinking like a really powerful one thats a challenge to drive, like the biggest u could fit in the kart while still being quite nippy (does that make sense? :S)

thanks, thats the kind of thing we're looking for, but its a bit far away really, as i don't think we can afford a trailer.

Building a Kart/Buggy

Hi, me and my friend were thinking about building a kart in the holidays. Basically, we'd already planned to do it and then he met a guy at a party whose dad has a breakers yard for bikes, so we're gonna try and pick up a biggish engine for cheap down there and put it in a kart or buggy.

I have a few questions, firstly, if anyone has done this sort of thing before, have you got any advice? Also, as we want quite a big engine (enough to get a fair bit of wheelspin), would we be better off making it a buggy rather than a kart? Also, how easy would it be to have a clutch (semi-automatic - thats a centrifugal clutch right?), and finally, is there any way of racing it against others or would it be too much of a pain getting it up to rules and regulations?

Thanks in advance,

Oli.

p.s. How much would it cost? - rough estimate, we both have a bit of money and my grandad's agreed to put in some money for parts, crash helmet etc.
