to get people off their asses and buy the damn s2 license. demo drivers aren't treating it as a demo, they're treating it as a free game.

edit: hi mr. heeley, haven't talked to you in a while

Quote from Spinjack :That's an easy one to solve. Just have a server setting that either admits day pass drivers or rejects day pass drivers. Then, if you don't want to be on an "open" server, you have that option.

that's a great idea.

dawes, that's not bad either... demo isn't a special file now anyways, everyone has the full program... you just need the unlock.

i drift... and i say it's a stupid idea.

there are no 'drift-specific' tires in real life, the tires drifters use are actually very very fast around a race track... the tires they use to drift one day are the same they use to time attack the next. IRL vs. LFS it's like drifting supers and racing supers... same tire, just using it differently.

nah i'm seriously thinking that s2 online would be good

there'd be a measure of discipline because the host accoutn would be held accountable for everything.

i was thinking keeping multiplayer open... having a FULL day-pass. why?

it's very simple. the reason why most of us play lfs is because of the community. blackhole motorsports awarded LFS the best multiplayer award. LFS multiplayer is more than just physics... to be honest, if a game had great physics, wouldn't give a doggy shitpile about it if it had a crappy community. same reason why i've never liked gran turismo. it used to have the best physics, but (obviously) doesn't have a community. and nothing sells a game better than playing with other real, living people.

with regards to abuse, as previously noted, each day pass would be directly linked to the host account. if the day pass-ee acts up, the host account will be directly affected. this will ensure discipline within the system.

this daypass system would be exclusive, with only 2 (or 1, however many) per month per account, ensuring that s2 will remain for s2 license holders, this is just a way for more exposure.

yes but they won't have the ability to PLAY the game, which is what would sell it. watching movies isn't nearly as fun as being able to feel the BF1 bite you in the ass
one that's actually constructive to the business model.

now i've been telling friends to grabs s2, but they don't want to, even after trying the demo. why is this? because they don't know if the other cars and tracks are worth it. to be honest, even the XRT isn't up to standards to attract people to the game, and they also don't want to deal with the hassle of wreckers which they believe are rampant in s2 as they are in demo.

i have a solution.

every month, you could offer each s2 account 2 day passes for other computers. for example, if i had a friend that wanted to try the game, i could give him a day pass where he could have full s2 content for the day. each pass would be held accountable to the host account, so that would prevent wrecking from said parties. if i lend out a day pass to my friend, and he wrecks and gets banned, then i would be held accountable. this would help improve exposure of s2, and i believe would do wonders to getting those licenses 'off the shelves.' we would both be able to play online for the day without hacks, violating the EULA, all while buildling up a base for new customers.

good man scawen

i think the GTR's should get sequential boxes, while the UFR and XFR get standard boxes... that would bee seeeeeeeick.

after having a particularly sh!tty day (as in REALLY sh!tty), i came home to check my email and saw a message from the LFS devs.

"Hello RevMonkey,

We at Live for Speed would like to wish you a happy birthday today!"

that brought a smile to my face... its the little things that make LFS much more than a game... it's a way of life.

GT5 was shown at the Sony booth in 1080p (not 1080i, but p!). It was basically photo realistic. Gorgeous.. Nordschleife even had all the grafitti on the road that you see in videos. But without a wheel, i can't pass judgement on it. It was also marked as 20% into development.

you sure about that? after all... http://gearlog.com/blogs/gearl ... ive/2006/05/16/11622.aspx

Quote :The drop off at the second stint seems more strategic to me. The dirty air effect would make Schumacher use his tyres more and the team probaly knew he was staying out longer. They probaly dropped the revs and maintain the car, not much point blitzing away and working your car harder than you need to. A wins a win if it's by 1 lap or 1 second. Thats one thing I don't understand with Kimi, although I admire his fighting spirit is why he pushes the car so hard. Examples of this were last year when he would finish miles up the road and still be lapping hotlaps right to the end of the race when he really didn't need to push the car that hard.

Keiran

you make a good point, but i really rather that they drive the balls of their cars even if they don't need to, simply just so that they can one-up the other man.

one thing that i hate (love to hate) about f1 is that everything is so gentlemanly. instead of actually duking it out, they'll subtley stub the other driver in the back with strategy. it's almost like they're apologetic to make a passing move, and all the f1 drivers are pussies about it too when they do get passed. deal with it. it's racing. i do understand that it is difficult with the aero turbulance and whatnot, but you just don't see the kind of balls racing of dijon 1979 anymore. F1 seems to be quite the intellectual's motorsport. it's like A Beautiful Mind as opposed to the Gladiator.

i was only able to watch about half of it... michael is really something, falling off the pace a bit in the middle, but then catching up again... What's wrong with michael's car, why does his second stint always suck so much?

anyways, discuss!

well if you look, the s1 licenses aren't even sold anymore... just striaght to s2 for the 24lbs. so bascially, you've already paid half the price for the full licesne, it's like an investment. just pay the other 12 lbs. and you're back in the game. s3 won't be coming out for ages anyways...

Quote from Scawen :No, that's no easier to use than a zip file, because you still need to put it in the right place. And most people don't want to run an exe, they would prefer to just extract a zip manually.

So it would cause more problems than it would solve. For me it's just zip files or self updater. I'm not interested in self extracting files, installers, etc.

scawen, the only reason why i started playing LFS was because for the longest time i accidentally locked myself out of being able to install stuff, so i couldn't install games, etc. (don't ask me how, it just happened...) and i couldn't reformat because i didn't have an XP CD. so basically lfs was the only game i played because it was the only game i could play, because of the zip... yay scawen!

i dont make sense because im a little tipsy off some green stuff.

another step to realism... THEY GOT RID OF THE DOWNSHIFT LIGHT! (yay!)

under options now it's "manual shift indicator" and "yes" or "no"

no "shift up only" "shift up and down" and "off"

yay

Quote from Scawen :What's this?

You hang out of your car looking at the tyres, while cornering at the limit of grip, at around 1g? You are very brave! But that may be a bit dangerous.

lmao at the second part ^_^

hehe that was funny

....

the tach are the green yelow orange and red lights at the top. when it hits red, shift before the two red lights underneeth start flashing. if there are no lights on, that's pretty much a signal to downshift until you see green or yellow.

the TSN race feed is one of the best in the world... after all, it is ITV. speed has more humour, but the ITV feed has some great insight...

Basically... WOW. that was an amazing race. i couldn't watch it on speed because they didn't have the contract, but luckily us canadians can watch it on TSN which uses the ITV feed, which provides some great insight though less humour. i thought it was a GREAT race. the fight between alonso and MS was AMAZING. jenson button's little pit incident provided some great drama, as did albers' flip. overall, this season's been going GREAT!

Quote from tristancliffe :Turn off TC and do some laps. Then add 700bhp (for qualifying) and tell me if 10 people in LFS could cope. The standard of driving (today) is abysmal in the BF1, and it's one of the easiest cars in LFS (though you tend to need one, perhaps two, nooby laps to find out where the grip/speed is). I can't understand how everyone is spinning at every corner all the time...

and I haven't even seen the oval recently, but I guess that's even worse cos the nooby noobs hang out there.

i find the trick to going FASTER especially on a mouse is to use some relativly heavy TC in the corners (speed ~6m/s @ ~5%), and when you exit the corner, turn off TC. that will allow you to accelerate like a MADMAN, without TC eating up your power even when you won't spin under full throttle.
