For me it was Sports Car GT. I had played many games before, but after I had bought a Guillemot FF Wheel to play CMR2 I bought SCGT as well, and since that I've loved simulations.
I quite recently built me a new gaming PC around E6400 and 4coredual-sata2, using my old DDR400 memory and Radeon 9700 Pro. I'm not overclocking it at all, since it's fast enough for LFS.
But what I wanted to say was that it works ok now after I learned a few things about this mobo. Before I could have everything at default /auto settings in bios and graphics drivers, but with this new mobo I have set memory timings manually in the bios and I had to disable write combining for the Radeon. Otherwise there were some serious instability. Well that's what I wanted to say, I'm pleased with how it works now, it serves well as an simulator PC.
I had the same problem when I got my G25. I was just not properly assigning controls to axes. First click the Throttle and then pick the axis that relates to the pedal. It should be simple. But, your problem might not be the same, so...
New one:
Core2Duo E6400 (not overclocked)
Asrock 4CoreDual-SATA2
2x DDR400 (DDR1 dual channel)
Radeon 9700 Pro
FPS with about 10 AI cars is now >45 from the start whereas with the old PC it dropped below 20 at worst. I never did any accurate benchmarks, but still I can say that it was a good upgrade. I would have wanted to go for an Intel G33/P35 chipset but then I would have had to get also new memory and graphics card and also the motherboard would have been more expensive.
So this was a good upgrade especially for LFS, as 9700pro is still good for that. I use 1024x768 with 4xAA and 16xAF.
well I could not make such a big upgrade yet. bought an E6400 and Asrock 4CoreDual-SATA2 and kept my ddr memory and radeon 9700. still a huge upgrade from barton 3200+.
back to original topic: constant flow of cash as a business model is good, now licenses are sold perhaps once in two years per player. I would happily accept paying subscription fees like 5€ per month, and that would already in 8 months be more that what I've paid this far in two years owning the license. I know some businesses who increased their stability by moving from selling hardware to renting services instead, and thus getting more predictable flow of cash (and more of cash).
well, for me it does not really matter much how lfs is run, just that it stays alive for the next 50 years. (i would be 83 then =)
I have checked the Gigabyte G33 DS2R user manual, and it seems that the onboard graphics and PCI-e can be used simultaneously, so that SoftTH should work ok. That's it then..
I assume that SoftTH works fine with PCI-e card + integrated graphics, using the integrated to output to the 3rd monitor, but would just like to get it confirmed before I go and buy me a motherboard. so would it work?
I am building a new system just for LFS, so this is not an upgrade. Instead of getting an SLI system I think that I could save a little to get a mobo with integrated graphics instead.
Motherboard could be with the G33 chipset, as I've read that they overclock well. For the processor I've planned the E2140 and for the graphics card something like 7600GT.
Unfortunately it seems to be quite a common practise that companies do not provide Windows installation CDs with computers with preinstalled Windows. Don't you even have system recovery discs? It can be that there is an image file of the preinstalled Windows somewhere in your hard disk, propably in a hidden partition that you can access by pressing some function key after you have turned on the PC. Normally you will have an option to burn that image on the CD or DVD, so that in the future you can initialize the system recovery by using that disc.
Check your manual for instructions for reinstallation, or it could be called system recovery or something else in the manual. If the manual does not help then call your laptop manufacturers technical support line.
I just configured LFSLapper to work in my server. I mainly want it to show your split times and personal best times, and make statistics of your performance. Most of the other features, like drifting scores, have been disabled.
Would you want to have UF1 enabled here as well? It is slower isn't it? Or should the class balancing make it competitive with the XRG?
I've understood that race ends when the winner passes the line, so in the worst case some humble racers would still be doing their second last lap when the race restart countdown would appear on the screen, if those fastest racers would want to vote for restart. I don't want my server to have a hectic feeling and I want to respect every racers effort to try to finish the race.
Do you have a strong desire to race LFS but almost never have time for it? Or when you go online, find a combo that you like, and start racing, then the track is soon changed so that you don't even have time to learn it properly? Would you still rather race online than doing hotlaps? Or when you feel you are doing well then others crash and decide to restart the race?
I was frustrated with these things so I opened my own server at 500servers.com.
Romus Racing is:
- about racing, but I accept newcomers who want to practise online. just drive with respect to others and have fun.
- no race restarts during the race
- more than 5 laps (I'm targeting to have races that last about 15 minutes)
- track and allowed cars do not change very often (not until I'm happy with my speed at that combo, so perhaps it changes 0-2 times a month)
- less popular combos (like slower cars and Westhill)
I'll be there instead of hotlapping or playing with AIs. If you like the style of my server, you are welcome.
EDIT: After reconsidering race restarts, I changed it to no restarts 60 seconds after the start and 30 seconds after the race. I still hope that there were no restarts when somebody is racing.
Westhill and UF1+XFG+XGR will most propably be the combo for all the summer. Weather is low wind and cloudy sunset.
I have these lines in my system.cfg, but I can restart the race right after the green lights appear. I have not logged in as an admin to the host, so I should be treated as a guest. I have also restarted the server after making changes to the config. Other settings work ok for me in the config file.
//no restart within X seconds of race start
/rstmin=239
//no restart within X seconds of race finish
/rstend=239
EDIT: my server is Romus Racing and it runs on 500servers.com. host version is X2
I am a member of a rather small food ring, we order locally produced food directly from several producers. We would need a web page with a form for each member to fill in their orders. I have no prior experience in web programming, nor anyone in our ring, so we would need an easy way to manage our orders. I can however program something, so if we got a good components I might be able to customize it to our needs. Can you recommend something to us?
In practise all the users would log in with either their own account or using a common user account. They would choose how many units of each product they want to order, like 5 units of potatoes (1kg/unit), and in the end submit their orders. An administrator, a person who's responsible for ordering products from produceders, would login using his/her own account. Admin would then see totals for each product to help making the order plus some other statistics about the order. This would be all the functionality required by the site.
I've found http://www.webformfactory.com in my quest, but perhaps there is something that we could start using almost right away. I am really trying to minimize the work needed to customize or program anything. If there would be an open source project targeting to our need it would be great.
How about having an option to use internet weather services to pick a local weather into LFS? (local meaning the host) I don't know if it is technically possible, but I would be surprised if it was not.
I have not studied InSim enough to know, but perhaps there is an option to change the weather settings, so that an external application could do this on the server side.
I just wanted to come back and tell that I found the CMR2 CD, and...
...I've been spoiled by the level of accuracy in LFS.
I remember having good races with friends in CMR2. We did several 3-4 player rally championships, meaning we drove through all the rally events. It took the whole weekend, but it was times when that was possible.
But now it just did not feel like driving a car anymore, perhaps more like a rubber boat on a river. I hope we see full graver circuits on LFS some day.
A dad here as well, for a son of 1,5 years. I wonder how you others seem to find time for racing. But I've got a renovation project in my apartment, and a dog that needs to be walked every day. When the renovation is done and our son can take the dog out then perhaps
I just realised that I'm using the power supply from the Momo, it might not have enough power for the two FFB engines in the G25. I'll post once I've found the original PSU. So, at least I learned to post a video to Youtube
