Is XP3200+ as good as you need with LFS?

So a simple question: will LFS benefit at all from having a better processor? If I had a Radeon X1950Pro AGP, Matrox TripleHead2GO using 3840x1024 and a full grid in online play with my system would I get a smooth play? My current system: MSI KT600 motherboard XP3200+ Barton (11x200fsb) 3x512mb ram Radeon 9700 Pro AGP Dell 20" wide screen TFT So I am just day dreaming. Should I be happy with my current rig, or would the graphics and display upgrade do good?

Quote from shane-0-matic :the only car that i race in is the mrt
i love it

yep, almost the same here. i dont really have time to race online now, but i'm practicing mostly with mrt. most of my friends who try lfs at my place also find it very enjoyable, so it seems to suit beginners very well. cruising around kyoto long recently was surprisingly lot of fun.

OK, thanks for the answers. Currently I'm pretty obsessed with the MRT, feels like I could drive this season with it, so I'll skip testing other cars for now.

But, as long as I get my tire temperatures to green area I guess I'm driving hard enough, no matter what the slip angle is accoding to stats.
Slip Angle and F1PerfView

I have been reading the Speed Secrets by Ross Bentley and learned about Slip Angle. I had never heard of it before, which tells that I'm pretty new to racing. I've been turning the PC wheel controller for about 6 years now, but only about 1,5 years ago I started with simulations GTR and now with LFS. So I downloaded the F1PerfView and saw that I'm mostly having slip angles from 0% to 3% with MRT in Fern Bay Gold. According to what Bentley writes I'm not using my tires and I am slow. OK, accepting that, I downloaded one WR lap and opended it, and saw only slightly bigger slip angles. So what should I think now? Was the WR not so good after all? Or is the slip angle statistics not so accurate with LFS/F1PerfView?

top three favourites: LFS, CMR2, Slicks'n Slide And all that I've spend a lot of time with in chronological order: Stunt car racer (Atari ST) Stunts Grand Prix 2 Slicks'n Slide (I had a license!) CMR2 NFS Porsche Sports Car GT GTR LFS. I still miss a game with great physics, great AI and an offline championship mode. A combination of Flatout2 style driving and tracks with Richard Burns Rally physics would be a must buy.

yeah I would also say you need more support on the sides for the wheel. here is one design that has inspired me: http://www.southeastweb.com.au/racingsim/

Former F1 driver J.J. Lehto put it nice when he was commentating the Australian GP. He said that if you make even a slight mistake in a corner then you have to drive the corner twice, and driving it twice is not fast.

Well it was about 3 years ago. I did not like how menus looked and then the tire scream when you turned the wheel in low speed was so unrealistic that I couldn't take it seriously. After the S2 demo release I tried it again, and now it all felt better. I'm mostly racing offline, doing hotlap competitions with my friends, because of very little time for online racing right now. Out of all the modern racing titles the LFS has been most satisfying for me.

nice to read this thread. i'm somewhat inexperienced, and will hopefully soon find more time for online racing and find myself fighting in the midfield.

But I'd defenately pay 20-40€ for Nürburgring, Mosport, Mexico (the same track from GPL), Laguna Seca or Bathurst. Defenately

Yep, me too. And another 20€ for improved gravel physics with short full gravel tracks.

my vote goes for a low powered kart. would be great racing in a small track, taking corners after corners in a high tempo. that would definately improve my skills.

Quote from Tokartta :Using this is a bit easier than going to control panel > sounds and audio devices each time you need to change soundcard: http://www.quicksoundswitch.toflo.de/

Thanks, this looks to help a little. Still, it would be great to get this thing into the game, as I would assume that it would be one of the easiest improvement suggestions to implement.
Option to choose sound card

If I've not misunderstood now LFS can play sounds only to the Windows default audio output. I would like to choose in game which card to use, instead of changing my settings in Windows.

I have three cards now, one for stereos, one for my Zalman 5.1 headset that I use when racing, and one for Skype. As my computer is our all-purpose machine in the family, I would prefer to always keep the default audio for stereo speakers, and choose 5.1 headsets for LFS. For example in WinAmp and in Skype you can choose which card to use, so that it overrides what you have chosen in Windows.
