Went into DC on Sunday. Didn't get many good pics. Pretty much everything has been photographed to hell and back. Here's a couple from the Lincoln Memorial. I think I also got some good ones at the Korean War Memorial, need to play with them a mull over which ones to keep. I have a 12gig card so I just snap pics like crazy

Quote from Toddshooter :Focusing on infinity will work. Most lenses have an infinity mark on them for this reason. Yes lenses go past infinity to compensate for cold and temp. changes and such. But you just don't go all the way to the end.

OOps sorry didn't see the non-SLR part of your post.

You have to be exact when doing astrophotography for it to look any good. Just putting it on the mark isn't good enough.

Focusing on infinity won't work. Pretty much all lenses focus PAST infinity whe you turn it all the way. If you have live view you can use that, and zoom in all the way, and fine tune the focus in real time. Thats one of the awesome things about live view. If not, then you just have to take a shot, adjust very slightly, take another, and so on.

Quote from samarius :One major consideration should be that Steam accounts are area specific AFAIK, ie. an Antipodean account logging in from any other Steam area will be classed as a hacked account and be banned immediately.

Sam

No thats not true. You can log in anywhere in the world. The weirdness is in what you can buy from where you are logged in. And also using a billing address from a different country than you are logged in from.

Very nice. What kind of camera and lens are you using? And what kind of dog is the brown one? It looks like some kind of setter.

This is against Steam rules, if the person buying gets caught they will lose the account, FYI.

It is okay to bash scientology because it is not a religion, it is a business. Its sole purpose is to make money and power like any other business.

Yes, you are right, vignetting is one of the issue I should concern. I don't use any filter at the moment but the lens I used for the "pigeon photos" is a little old one. Manufactured for 35 mm. formats. I think its made at 1980s or early 90s. My camera's crop factor is 1,5, maybe the reason of vignetting is this difference.

Actualy a crop sensor will reduce vignetting, since it only uses the sweet spot in the middle of the lens. Try closing down the aperture a stop or two. Should do the trick.

Quote from StewartFisher :It's quite heavily cropped. I cropped it to 800 x 600 from the original image (3888 x 2592), then shrank it to 80% (640 x 480) for posting. There was an awful lot of black space in the original!

Nice. Still alot of detail in that. Is that lens the 70-300mm USM IS canon lens? I really wanna telephoto, but am leaning more towards the 400mm L prime lens. But it doesn't have IS How do you like that lens? It would be a good halfway stop for me while I save up, hehe.

Interesting. I thought you might have to have a telescope designed to have a camera mounted on it.

Here's my first attempt at astrophotography Thats Mars. 30 sec exposure. 100mm

I took several more, and managed to get some airliners crossing the frame a few times!
