I have one theory for the people who get hostile whenever they hear the 'd' word around here.
They get ticked when, trying to find a server to race on, find that 90% of the populated ones have one or more variety of "dRiFt" madness going on about it .
At least that's what I see for demo servers. If this is an incentive to go S2, well I won't wait too much longer.

Don't get me wrong, I love the drift. In fact, there is no such thing as "grip" driving. As long as a tire assumes a nonzero slip angle (by turning the steering wheel, among other things) , it is drifting ever so slightly. To be less of a smartass about it, there's something beautiful about those GPL drivers and their (slightly exaggerated) pre-downforce 4 wheel drifts.

Is there any way to ban by user id instead of typing in the user's name? I had to try and get rid of a wrecker but he cleverly typed in some character that prevented me from getting a valid response to the ban command. In fact, he cloned the name of another player beforehand, which was "I have" and I tried the obvious alternative "l have" but that did not work. I'm not even going to try typing in colors or alternative character sets...

Ok, so the car's covered. Although I don't like the idea of realistic injuries to the driver (or passengers) it would also be interesting to add the effects of a hard jarring to the driver like blurred vision when the head is forced to move really fast or even a momentary blackout if the car goes shiny side down (maybe because the virtual driver is trying to close his eyes and pretend it is a bad dream).

Aye, some of the best parts of GPL were the fantastic crashes. Well, they looked bloody exciting, and usually ended up with you watching your tyres passing you by .
Sadly, it was a sight I have gotten very familiar with.

If crash damage deters people from driving GT3 style (read=wallriding) thinking it would give them some sort of competitive advantage, I'm all for it. People will eventually learn to appreciate the demand put on them to keep it shiny side up. If not-they can always go back to GT3.

Relaxed and smooth, like going to the grocery to get some milk.

Actually, going to the grocery and getting milk is anything but relaxed and smooth. But I will get there.

I don't know if this has been suggested in another form already (read through the existing suggestions but couldn't really find what I was exactly thinking):
A garage with *discrete* cars, sort of like the way gran turismo 4 manages the garage (yes I mentioned GT). Meaning that each car you define would have its own setup/skin and persistent stats such as:
-total miles+laps driven (should have visible odometer in gauge cluster as well)
-perhaps $ in crash damage repaired
-date purchased
-# of tires used
-etc.
Of course it would not cost you anything to add another identical car to the garage like GT, it would just help organization-wise if you wanted a specific setup linked to a specific skin. It would not be unlike the players system used in LFS already, which defines player specific settings like controls/view and such per account. Other persistent info like millage and $spent on repairs/gas so far etc. would be entirely novelty (although I suppose they could be made to affect the car over time if desired).
I understand at least the persistent stats tracking is done, to some extent, in LFSW (miles driver and fuel burnt), although that requires an online presence (not that I think that is bad) and the stats are across the entire account and not distinguished between individual cars used. Heck, maybe the "garage" could be hosted on LFSW so that it can move with you should you reformat your computer or play at a friend's house. My suggestion was intended to make the LFS somewhat more "personal" rather than simply a staid driving sim "application".
I understand that this type of addition would be more "post-S3" but I thought of it now so I'm throwing it out .
Sorry I couldn't be more concise - still working on my writing skills.

PIR, now that's a place I've been to a few times! Never got to drive on the track yet sadly (not even for the holiday light shows), but it sure would be neat to have the track in the game. As far as I know the track has not been very well represented in sim racing. But it is one of the USA NW's crown jewels

Turn LFS into Live For Managing - just run a field of AI drivers all custom named by you through all the tracks with your choice of cars, and try to support one AI racer through the season with better setups etc. to increase the chances of his\her success from the competition. Granted, it will be more luck than skill (and you have to keep track of progress yourself), but some people might get a hoot out of it.

Or maybe you can manage a group of real racers in a league. You can pay them in Jaffa cakes or something...

Is there any way to turn off ALL HUD items on screen when using an external view? (say if you wanted to get a clean screenshot) I managed to turn off everything except for the lap# and time info on the top right corner. Searched forums but I couldn't really find the right keywords...

Starion itself is the original model; the Dodge Conquest (released in the States) is the rebadged Starion that started the great(?) DSM legacy.
