Quote from tristancliffe :(e.g. realistic repair times in the paddock)

That! I hate it how you can crash up your car, manage just barely to drive it back to the pits and get it repaired in few minutes or even less.
If you we're wathing 24h Le Mans 2010, where Fisichella I belive just "slightly" crashed his Ferrari with "only" frontal damage, suspension and anything drive related relatively ok, and it took the team a few LAPS! to repair that damage.

Quote from scipy :The car wouldn't even leave the pitlane, it'd just cross the line. You're argument being invalid as soon as you mentioned "real race" :P Many things that happen in LFS would end your race in real life.

I've seen many races where blown tyres have been simply just changed. Except if a blown tyre damaged a vital part of the body in the process(like M.Schumacher in Suzuka 1998)

I didn't take it personal if that's what you're implying.
Our opinions are just different.
Best leave it at that, and let the admins decide what's the best option.

Quote from JPeace :The layout is there for a reason - to stop drivers from attempting to go too fast through the corner and give themselves damage. If the drivers can then not drive through the layout without giving themselves damage, well that just shows the idiocy of them all. In fairness though, there should have been more announcement of the layout.

Sigh...is it really so hard to understand what I'm trying to say?
Driving mistakes happen. We're not all robots. We're not all school boys/girls who can spend their entire afternoon on LFS to practice, nor are we all veteran players to know every trick in the book. So why make more dangerous sections on the track than needed?

Use a larger template. The larger, the better it will look.
And keep in mind the stretching of everything on the car. FZ5/R is one of the biggest "strechers" or skins I think.

It's really hard to explain how the path tool works, first you click of a rectangle shape, and then you start pulling those lines so long until you like the shape of it. It's just trial and error. To practice maybe forget about the skin, try just making an S i.e. with the path tool. And maybe start with just one line, so you wont be able to fill it, but just stroke the path with the brush tool, to get the idea on how it works.

Quote from Inouva :The fuel consuption that display on the pit for the new track combos, gona be calculated by lfs?

Don't think so. It doesn't get re-calculated if you add restrictions to the car, it could change now tho, but it hasn't been mentioned in the OP. But driving ~3-4 laps to get the average fuel usage shouldn't be too hard.

Quote from bunder9999 :only the corporate morons who think paying for support is actually needed.

With RHEL you don't buy only the support. It's their trademark logo etc.
Bunch of BS if you ask me anyway, specially when you have the free version of it in Fedora or CentOS.
But I have a couple of friends who bought it for personal use not even remotely connected to "corporate morons".

But the main point of my post was that the common practice for windoze users is stealing software, while some/many(not willing to argue around that) Linux or OSS users get their software for free and still provide donations to the project that is providing their software.

Just take LFS for example, how many more cracked copies of LFS would we have if you would be able to play a cracked copy online.

Quote from Eclipsed :now we can have "KY4" - endurance track!

Exactly what I had in mind.
Where you come to the oval on the KY3, a hard right turn, and on to the KY2 part of the track and after the oval again onto KY3 part.
Can't wait to try that out.

Quote from MonkeyHead :Actually I have opposite feeling about that layout, it was clear and by taking it easy you wont get ever damage. And well it's actually against the sporting code to cut more there so I think tires were placed very well. Anyway I hate that chicane too because it's quite hard to survive whole race without hitting walls but this is part of racing, sometimes some turns are crazy.

I agree that it's against the sporting code, but I wasn't talking about this kind of cutting. I had more like cutting a track after a driver error, if someone was to lose his tail i.e. and run wide into the chicane. If there are no tyres there you'll just run through sideways and maybe crash, if you have tyres there you have very little chance of making it through without crashing.

Why would you need XRT skin?

Layouts are dumb anyway IMHO.
It makes things just worse, if you make a mistake and crash into those tyres they fly around in all directions(and easier for the one who crashed into tyres to roll) and there's a possibility that those flying tyres are going to ruin another ones race, where as if there are no tyre walls on the chicanes the car that made a mistake will just fly through the chicane and hit the wall, and ruin only it's own race. Yeah ok, a follower might get taken out too, but it's easier to predict where the car is going to fly off and so easier to avoid, whereas with those tyres you don't know where they're going to fly when one hits them.
If it's for preventing cutting of the track, I'm sure at least one admin has time to "shift+u" to the area and watch for any possible cuts and punish the racer accordingly. You need to watch it anyway, in case of pile-ups.

Also, take a look here:
http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=64975

You've got some logo stretching all over the car.
And when you're pasting on logos/sponsors, remove their background, so you only put on the image without the white background.(dunno if it can be done with paint.net tho), but you could try GIMP or PhotoShop if you got the money for it.(GIMP is totally free tho)

Quote from NotAnIllusion :Clearly "source code" refers to the malicious application, and the point was that since the method is freely available, the fix should be easy to figure out. Also, API =/= implementation in OS.

Yeah. I re-read it now when I'm home and I must apologize to the OP.
And I never mention "API" :P

Quote from dj_hitas :I don't even understand how hard it could be to fix that. FFS, even souce code of that application is lying on the Internet open for everyone. When you know how stuff works, you know what you can do to prevent it from working.
It's good when the server is in Ubuntu and it is possible to prevent it from working through the OS itself, but for win users.. I don't know. We are working on that at the moment, but developers should think of other people who are not as experienced in such things as we are.
Cheers.

What the hell are you talking about? Where do you see the source code of the LFS server? If the source code for LFS server would have been available we wouldn't be running LFS servers on Linux hosts through wine, because I'm sure someone would port it natively to *nix already.

And bringing down the LFS server in a way described above is not affected by the OS running it. It's a bug in the LFS server, not the OS.
TCP/IP related attacks are a problem with TCP/IP stack, not with a particular OS, because TCP/IP stack is a standard used on all devices connected to the interwebz, no matter the hardware or the OS that it is running(ok, there are some variations), and TCP/IP stack is known for this vulnerability, so we won't even go there. But like said, the above bug is caused by nothing else than the LFS dedicated server it self.

My first attempt at rendering.
P.S: I used the "blender tutorial".
Wish I had the knowledge and time to do it all by my self instead of just using someone elses hard work on the models.

The skin is a somewhat recreation/conversion of MasterCard Lola F1 car to a LFS GTR car. Also made by me.

Plz comment.

Nice driving. Epic understeer after you took that left side hit on the wall.
I just don't get it how is this a FZ5 with slicks. It's more like FZR with ABS.

You select Path tool.
Position the edges on the skin. Then you start clicking on the lines and pulling them so they start to bend.
Once you're happy with the way the curves look, you click on "Path to Selection" button in the toolbar.
Once you have it selected and are on a proper layer, fill the selection, either with bucket fill or Ctrl+,
If you want a 2 tone curve, you have to deselect some areas that you do not want to change, create a new layer(or do it on the same, although, better to create a new one) and fill that new selection with another color. Deselection can be done by pressing down Ctrl key and using one of the selection tools(don't know if it works with path tho). If you want a line(curved or not) that has a white border all around, you first fill white and then can use Selection shrink from the menus to shring the selection by X pixels and once shrunk just fill the new selection with another color.
It's basically just practice and patience.

Quote from bunder9999 :i don't know who those people are, but one of the primary reasons people use linux is so they don't have to pay for software...

Oh you are so wrong. RHEL is not free as in free beer. And people still use it.
I could get my distro for free, but I order every release on CDs/DVD instead of downloading it. So do many others. Is it so hard to accept the fact that many Linux users use it because it is better than anything else out there for us?

Quote from Kova. :Cancel the race would be a big mess... Some racers like me did everything to race, and seeing finally that it's served to nothing (bcz my mate could drive until the rad flag without need to swap drivers) :gnasher:

Tell me about it. I've spent 2 weeks practicing on this track and making a set, which ended up pretty well actually, specially for me when I have very little knowledge on how to make sets. Then I finally get a chance to ride it on full racing pace, 6-7 laps later I was almost pushed into a sandpit because of lag and one lap later, the race ended. It would be a shame, at least for me, to cancel this race.
But then on the other hand, it would leave me only with 1 week to practice for kyoto.
