Hey guys,

So I got NFS Shift and really enjoyed it. It's wasn't a sim like LFS or even Gran Turismo or Forza, but it was damn fun (except for the drift). And I just saw the debut teaser for the next game.

So, what do you guys think? Hopefully with how recently some of the EA people said that they want the Shift side of NFS to go more towards sim, this will be ever better. You guys think it has any chance of coming out strong and being close to the levels of Gran Turismo or Forza?

Huh? Well for one, its by another developer. Secondly, they have been working on it way before Hot Pursuit got released.

Anyway, my impression from the "teaser"; crashfest. I mean really... It just looks silly... Why just not have nice racing action, and not something you would see on banger ovals.

Never understood the appeal of crashing for racing trailers....

I see some education is in order.

Shift 2 is by Slightly Mad Studios, the guys responsible for original shift. This year's NFS is by Criterion, and the next years is promised to be by black box (get ready for crapfest) meaning Shift2 could be a year in development already and 2 years from release.
I'm pretty sure that 3 years is a sufficient time to make a good game, besides, not all "NFS suck" like you've put it.

I should have put a disclaimer that I haven't actually tried the new Hot Pursuit yet.

Anyways, the old NFS games were good. The last, what, 5-6 ones were awful.. That includes Shift, in my opinion. Actually, everything is my opinion so relax.

24 hours of Spa? Hmm. If there's night racing at Brands Hatch, I'll buy it (Britcar Into The Night was awesome last weekend!)

Really what would be good is that if you are racing your closest rival and you finish the race that you don't stop you get off the track and onto public roads.

Although in real life the moron engineers wouldn't have left the fuel tanks full when they were unsecured on display

but you get the idea. Instead of indy cars. 2 touring cars or something like them.

Well it is Sylvester Stallone He probably did actually. But I know it is a really bad movie. I meant the actual scene of racing through the streets anyway. But still. Would they really leave them fully fueled up like that.

TBH, one of the most original trailers i've ever seen, the camerawork\bullet time is just awesome.

In a nutshell. Trailer awesome. Game bad. I don't get why a epic crash scene has to be the highlight of racing game trailers these days. I thought the point was to finish the race

Well a product has to differentiate itself....I have no problem they are highlighting the suspense and danger of racing, it's just another angle.

I guess by the trailer that it's hinting 3D TV support. The crashing scenes with the huge amount of floating debris only make sense if it is meant to be viewed in 3D.

On the game itself, I remain open, but not hyped. I quite liked Shift (and ProStreet for that matter) and I think those two were the best NfS titles since Porsche anjd actually quite fun to play.
Still, they were by no means Sims, and this one isn't going to be one either.

Shift was a lot of fun, very visceral, and a nice change of pace, looks like Shift 2 will be more of the same, which is a good thing.

Really? You complained about the physics of Hot Pursuit, but enjoyed the physics of shift?!

Yup, the physics of HP are pants, at least Shift didn't have the terrible caned oversteer that HP has, and you actually had to brake for a corner in shift, rather than just slide round like you do in HP.

Shift was fun, certainly wasn't realistic, but if felt fine for an arcade racer.

The trailer really wasn't that much focused on crashing. Most of it just showed close racing. I'm definitely fine with that.
