I want to make a romanian language pack, but i can't use some characters.
I had the same problem with movie subtitles, but I found that if I change the script from Western to Central European, like in my attachment, these characters work.
Is there a way to do this for a LFS language pack?

I think the code page you want is 1250 (Central Europe).

So what you have to do is, in the file Romanian.txt, see the first line tx_codepage - you set that to 1250.

Then when LFS loads the file, it knows that those characters are from that code page.

One more question. There are some words that can't be translated, if this words remain in english would you include the romanian language pack in your next update?

There are several words untranslated in many languages, like "hotlapping", some tire names and such things.

See this page, the public version of it... Romanian was started a few years ago but they never got very far. I could give you access to the system and you can then edit the file online.

I've found a slight problem in the Romanian translation, but there is a solution and I've emailed Victor about it.

It seems to be a sort of deficiency in code page 1250 - it doesn't properly support the S-comma / s-comma / T-comma / t-comma Romanian letters. But what it does have are S-cedilla / s-cedilla / T-cedilla / t-cedilla, which look similar, and although they are technically wrong they are used in many Romanian texts as a replacement.

So I think with LFS that's what we have to do. But please don't go through changing them yet - I think Victor can make that conversion automatic so that you'll automatically see ş in LFS instead of ș (and similarly for the other three).

EDIT : OK, Victor has done that now. The S/s/T/t "with comma" are now converted to S/s/T/t "with cedilla" in the translation system, so they should appear OK in LFS.

I wonder how i can help, i would download the whole file and modify but it would be a pain to review all the lines for just a few changes.

It would be nice to have multiple versions side by side in the online translation system with a vote button next to each variation.

So, what should i do? Download, edit and post back here or post here only the modifications with the line id and the translation?

I guess that at this point, while kitu_gudu is still working on finishing the translation, the best thing would be to post here the line id and your suggested improvement for the line. Then kitu_gudi can accept your suggestions or discuss them with you.

I think most translators are happy to have some input, as they gradually work through those 1688 lines, not every line will be translated the best way!

A long time ago ... I've translated to Romanian by directly editing the language files but never got the time to complete all the translations and i haven't uploaded it anywhere.

I don't know if it's appropriate to write in the translation's language but i will. If there is any reason to write in english please advise.

Vad ca proiectul cam stagneaza, sugerez abordarea sistematica a traducerii. Sa o luam pe capitole, eventual sa votam pe fiecare varianta pana terminam tot capitolul, il "batem in cuie" si sa trecem la urmatorul.

Daca o luam asa cu totul o data piere repede entuziasmul.

Trebuie doar sa gasim platforma pentru voturi si variante, un instrument online tip wiki sau ceva similar.

I'm writing in English this time because I want to ask Scawen a qustion: does the public translations viewer allow more users, or does it only allow one translator per language?

After reading the Bulgarian topic it looks as if there can be more translators on the same language, but I thought I should ask.

If only one person can use the editor, maybe a simple method would be the use of an .ods file (excel or open office) to manage suggestions.
Also going slowly, chapter by chapter, and discussing translations in the forum could also work quite nice, and hopefully it will not be an issue to use the forum...
Anyway, I can help with probably any method, if needed.

One more thing I want to point out, I've noticed some words start with uppercase, some don't, so it would be a good idea to use the same rule everywhere.

Eu sunt "IN" oricum doriti sa procedam.

Nu ma pricep in a folosi o platforma precum propui (gen wiki) dar invat repede, daca cineva stie sa arate punctul de plecare.
As putea propune ca alternativa "low cost" sa zicem, forumul ligii romanesti de LFS, unde sunt admin. E un forum, pot crea chiar si o sectiune separata daca e nevoie, avem posibilitatea de a vota, si suntem deja o mana de raceri (a se intelege utilizatori maniaci ), care am putea oferi un feedback in cunostinta de cauza (LE: ba chiar ii putem implica pe o parte din ei, sunt convins).

Daca va suna interesant, forumul nostru e aici. Daca nu, promit oricum sa particip la traducere pana o finalizam, indiferent de platforma folosita. Imi pare bine sa vad activitate aici, credeam ca a murit "proiectul" .
