Sorry Jak I think if you hadn't have got an advantage from it would just have been a warning. You have two cautions and the most appropriate penalty I feel is a 1 position drop, so you'll likely be classified 3rd. I think (from recollection) that promotes Thommm Arends to 2nd place.

The classified results will be released when all the inquiries are closed and you'll have confirmation of the penalty then.

well ive gone from being 1st, to 2nd, and now to 3rd!
It's the first race of 12. Don't get frustrated just yet. There's still 11 months to climb back to first.

I'm dreading the next race, a 30 second lap with much of it on dirt...

this is where the Rb4's leave everyone for dust (although LFSW says theres only a .2 sec gap between RB4 and FXO "drives like a pig covered in lard on dirt")
Life in the big (South) city! The STCC is as close to real-life competitive race stewarding as you can get in a sim.. and I celebrate that.

Jak, you have my sympathy. You fought a hard race and drove really well. You're fast and enthusiastic, and that can't be beaten. I hear so often, the mantra "LFS is not a contact sport".. it's a hard reminder, but it's fair.

Now you have more to fight for in the coming races and I'm sure you'll do [MG] proud
Quote from SamH :Now you have more to fight for in the coming races and I'm sure you'll do [MG] proud

ill try! i think hotlapping doesnt help, you get so used to setting fast times, yet have virtually no experience on where to overtake, and when i got behind someone almost as fast, i had to get past whereever i could (especially as i turned down the brakes by 15 Nm before the race and forgot to change it back so i was so worried of having someone slip past me)

anyway, im waiting to see how many times i roll it at the rallyX tracks, at least the other two are longer, and i can muscle the FXO round most of them

This goes deeper too though. The way people react to decisions, the way they appeal and how they accept their lot has parallels with real life steward/driver relations. This is great stuff to watch and the competitors will need to employ patience and understanding along with the hunger and determination to win. Some great racing ahead, I predict. (damn that last sentence almost sounded like Yoda. "Mmmmh, win you must.. young Jedi.)
True to say, it is. :wise nod: [/yoda]

@Becky, are you doing coverage-style overlay graphics too? If so, are you going to want mugshots?
It'll have graphics although for productivity reasons i'll be keeping them quite light until i've got the process more streamlined. I decided to use national flags for now for a few reasons and have done some nice renders for the graphics, although the actual graphics style of the 'interface' I think I might redraw from my first draft.

The thing about mug shots is I was worried before the series is established it may not be taken seriously by the drivers, and also some would not want to send photo's in, When I considered the prospect of having 8 Keanu Reeves, 8 drivers without photo's, 4 scantily clad women from a google search and your genuine picture* and I figured it would perhaps be something left for a few races down the road.

Broadcast Progress
I converted the first set of rushes into a sensible filesize today and found time to add one more static camera, that's 6 recorded now, I think tomorrow I will probably have finished getting all but replay angles (which i'll do as I go along).

So the weekend (less a BBQ and a GP to watch) will be clear for the major task of editing them, I need to find out how to chop out sections of a stream and keep the timeline intact using Adobe Premier which I guess involves chopping the stream up so if anyone can give me a heads up on that before I get to it that may save some time .

I reckon it'll be with the commentators by early next week.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by that, but if what I'm thinking is right then try the following.

Import all the clips you want to use into the library and put them all onto the timeline in seperate layers one above the other. chop out the bits that you don't want and drag the resulting little bits towards the left of the timeline [keeping them on seperate layers] so that you don't have any gaps. render the result. Keep the audio and visual blocks for the clips linked [you have to manually unlink them] and they'll stay in sync. Use the cross fade audio transition to iron out "skips" in the audio.
if that's nowhere near and I'm not clever enough to have understood what you meant then just drop me an e-mail or a p.m I'm sure we can figure it out.

I'm off to the 1000km of Donington race on Sunday, then I have a reasonably busy week after that. I know Tristan can't find 5 minutes to sit down atm so whilst we'll obviously try to get our end of the bargain done as fast as possible, I wouldn't worry about busting a gut to get the footage to us.
Your clever, it's me who doesn't understand because tis is the first time i've used Adobe Premier as I got it especially for this series . I may well figure this out easily when I try at the weekend, but basically the plan is to put all 10 or so cameras into the timeline and synced, then 'choose' which one to show at each point in time.

I'm still adapting to the Premier interface as it's very different to my old Media Studio Pro. There's lots of stuff i've got to figure out this weekend.

Which compression format did you finaly choose ?
I did get DivX working, but the conversion process would have been 48 hours for all 10 streams, so I decided on DV PAL.
Steward Inquiry - Panel Results
Feature Race, Turn 1, Car 6 APPEAL DENIED
Poor driving resulted in a chain reaction of minor taps. Car 6 WARNED.
Addendum: The clerk feels that this is best observed from above, car 6 clearly changes line with other cars around him and causes a chain reaction of minor taps, however she accepts the term 'poor driving' is probably best replaced with 'difficult circumstances'. The other stewards agree.

Feature Race, Lap 1, The Junction, 35 APPEAL DENIED
Car 35 braked helplessly late and contacted other cars. Upon rejoining he tapped the rear of car 6 such that it caused car 6 to spin and loose a considerable number of places. Car 35 PENALTY
Addendum: The clerk feels that the decision is correct. The other stewards agree.

Feature Race, Lap 12, Kenton Bend, 6+4 APPEAL DENIED
Whilst overtaking car 4, number 6 drifted wide. Car 6 had sufficient overlap and car 4 left room, the incident being caused by 6 car over-extending himself and sliding at the rear. Car 4 was thrown into a spin and struck the wall. Car 6 CAUTIONED.
Addendum: The clerk does not agree that car 4 did not leave sufficient room. The other stewards agree car 6 over extended himself.
The website and my email are now working again.

If you have sent me any email over the last 2 weeks and I have not replied please resend it. Sorry and thanks .
Good to hear all is back to normal with the site.

Do my 1 Caution and 1 Warning lead to any penalty ?
No you're safe Beano, by a wisker...
Can you make an estimate on when the results will make it to the website?
No need to hurry. There's no one who needs the results on the page other than the drivers at the moment (as the first coverage is still to come) and they already know their own positions.

On a different note, is there already a press release on the way or will such a thing be released when the coverage is ready?

Also I'd like to propose a training for either today or tomorrow evening. Let's say 19 BST, 20 MEST. I'd like to try the TBO class on some other tracks. As Club, Bl Gp Rev - rallying is getting cumbersome. (Turn in, countersteer, turn in, countersteer, turn in... you get the idea)
So all drivers who read this: Try to make it to the STCC server today or/and tomorrow around 19 BST.

There's some steward inquiries who's appeal windows will not end until Sunday midnight UTC and I cannot publish the classified results until then. Because of the forum disruptions i've allowed much longer to appeal than normal - but in future I think there will be a small tweek on the timing of the appeal system anyway to reduce my workload (basically atm I have to watch the race as a steward then start the coverage - but why not combine the two by giving myself a larger window to report events in?

Quote :On a different note, is there already a press release on the way or will such a thing be released when the coverage is ready?

Virtual Motorsports has folded so at the moment we have no actual press to release too, I have been in talks with some other media firms but currently nothing has come of it. Instead we might have a race report on the website.

Quote :Also I'd like to propose a training for either today or tomorrow evening

I can't be there myself as i've too much STCC stuff to do, but the server is there for you 24/7 .

That's a shame, but the first issue was probably too similar to ASS. Speaking of ASS, would they publish the race report? They were asking for LFS submissions a while back.
Doing a Google search for ASS cetainly gets some results, but not the one i'd need. Does anyone have a link for ASS?
