I can't play RBR no matter what i do i crash all the time... it is so frustrating!!! I can play LFS and be within 1-2 sec of the WR, but RBR... dammit and i liked it initialy
Drive slower. And listen to the pacenotes. My "basic system" works quite nicely for the first few seasons:
Flat left: 6th gear
Light left: 5th gear
Fast left: 4th gear
Medium left: 3rd gear
90° left: 2nd gear
Hairpin: 1st gear

Later you will have to adjust this. A "Fast left - 100" can often be driven in 5th gear, while a "Fast left - medium right" should be approached in 3rd gear.
Basic guideline for bad weather: Reduce gears by one.

If you crash you're too fast. Crashing is no fun, so drive slow enough to be able to listen to the pacenotes and imagin the track as the copilot says the notes.

See, that's exactly the error in your mindset. RBR is not about PB's and WR times at first. Before you can attempt to get good times on a stage, you have to learn risk control. Your main goal should be to actually reliably finish a stage, not to be fast on it. A good way to do this is to start in championship mode, not doing quick races. If you total your car there, then it's over for that rally, so being cautious is rule #1.

Don't measure your performance on the WR times posted online. These are quite ridicolous and involve knowing every centimetre of the track by heart. If you actually compare yourself to "medium" difficulty AI drivers, then you'll see that even at cautious driving you'll often have HUGE gaps and should generally have no problem beating them.

Once you can pretty much drive an unknown stage without crashing, then, and only then, you can start dropping times. But actually at that phase you'll be much faster anyways, because you know how the car will react and what it is capable of so much better. It will also be much less frustrating to play, trust me. Trying to go through a stage full power with suicidal speeds and restarting it like 20 times before you luckily get through once is not fun.

my problem with RBR is that it doesn't support 16:9 widescreen :\
We used RBRTournament to play against each other.

Wait a couple of days, getting a new PC soon so i'l be reinstalling RBR.
Should we start the season again?

I could make the whole damn season schedule in one sitting and France could be the 1st rally to get it out of our systems fast.

Maybe with a bit less strict rules conserning DNFs so more people could finish the rally.
I think we should finish the season (France and Australia are left to go), proclaim me the best RBR driver ever ( ) and additionally start a Super 2000 season parallelly.

I'd be up for some more races :-)
RBR is certainly one of top 3 rally games there is. Unfortunately, I don't play it because I feel its a bit hard on my 5 year old MSFFB wheel but I plan to seriously get into it when I get my new wheel soon. RBR has a really good realistic feel. The graphics are quite good as well. The time I played it, I never had a proper go of any of the other cars (except the 22b STi, LOVED THAT 1! and WRX). Like Vain said, its a pain in the ass when you drive at a stage as if you're racing a track because you know all the corners coming up but that kind of thing is inevitable in all rally games these days. There was one game though, Rally Championship 2000 which had 20 minute stages and I wish I could get it again but I don't know where to find it . Everyone knows the CMR series and I suppose RBR has become the benchmark for modern day rallying sims. Rally Trophy is also a really good rally game. Thing I love about RT is that some people think they have good control over the car and are doing really well because they're smashing the Expert AI but trust me, in RT, there is a limit waay beyond that . I was always quite good in RT, I even had a WR for Finland Stage 1 in the Stratos but never posted it . When you really get to the limit in RT, you then start doing some super funky slides . A shame though about RT is that most of the cars in the game aren't that hard to drive, its only really the Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Renault Alpine and the Escort, the other cars are quite easy to get round to. I've always loved rally games (for an obvious reason... I'M IRISH!!! ) and I look forward to see what new rally games have to offer compared to RT and RBR. I wonder if Codemasters will change their ways with CMR: Dirt
