The online racing simulator
well not allways smaller monitor is higher HZ but you can find alot of smaller monitors with higher HZ
LOL oops yes typo, i meant to say HZ not resolution LMAO sorry
erm, the larger the monitor (usually) the higher the resolution, and usually TFT's are between 60-70 Hz, irrespective of size.

i take it your monitor is a TV? why does that not suprise me...
CRT or LCD? An LCD doesn't actually use refresh rates per se, they use response times in ms, which is the amount of time the liquid crystal takes to change from one state to another. The 60Hz your computer reports is simply how many frames are being sent to the monitor. CRT's refresh rates are how often the electron guns can scan the screen per second, so that is in Hz
Still suprises me when I walk into a consumer electronics store, and they're peddling these big flatscreen t.vs, and the resolution is 1024 x 768, or even lower, and they honestly look terrible. And when I think of my humble 17inch monitor, running at 1280 X 1024, I realise you're just paying for the dubious luxury of having to sit further away from the screen... illepall

The future looks bright though- I've seen some really nice LCD stuff of late, with fantastic contrast ratio (5000:1) and really beautiful colours. There's a particular Samsung I have my eye on atm.
Just for the record, and to try and stop this turning into a complete "my cock is far larger than yours" thread, here`s a small high res test on my girlfriend`s PC.

The machine is an Athlon XP 2400+, 1G mem, 128M nvidia FX5200 AGP card with 91.47 drivers. 1024x768 monitor.

I installed a base LFS and turned up the options until it looked fairly decent.

I ran the intro replay all the way through and watched the frame rate stay pretty stable at 48fps.

I then swapped over my entire DDS folder which has all of Kar`s high res updates, all my own current and dev high res stuff, and various other things far larger than the default LFS textures.

Running the intro replay again showed the same stable 48fps, with absolutely no noticeable loss whatsoever.....
Quote from JohnUK89 :An LCD doesn't actually use refresh rates per se

actually they do but its more of a poll rate
Jimmy- I've had a look at the default sand textures at Kyoto and there aren't any grassy gaps like in the high-res ones. Thanks for that- I'll get around to fixing it sometime..
np.
The High-Res Skies are sticky'd. I think this thread should be sticky'd because many people do not know about them and they are, in my opinion...

ONE OF THE BEST ADDONS FOR LFS - w00t

Thanks again Electrik for making my hairs stand on end every time I glance down at the curbs at 200 kph Gorgeous. Much respect to you "Electrik Kar" and "unseen"

Off topic, but in Austrailia don't you use miles per hour?
nope, the use KM/h
I always thought they did, along with the UK and USA.

And while on the subject of textures, how do the UK and USA players not get totally confused in the pit lane in LFS? I set LFS to MPH and still see this....

Unseen has been plotting to do a metric/imperial pack, I think he's kindof obsessed with this.
Well, the metric system is way better than the imperial one, it has a much better usability for converting units. Only gets beaten by the SI-system
i have one that says "48 MPH"
iv got one that says " slow the F... down "
Nice work on the high-res textures Electrik Kar! Makes the tracks a lot better looking.
does the update share the same curb for WE, KY and BL?

EDIT: ohhh sorry i saw them
Yeah, each of the tracks have their own particular curb texture. I originally began Westhill with a colour modified Kyoto curb, but it annoyed me how it was basically the same curb- I had to change it. If you've checked out the SO WIP, you'll notice that the curbs for BL and SO are the same. I'll have to think of something there if I ever get serious about a proper SO update sometime..

Aston texture update is probably a couple days or so away from being ready. There are many changes here so I won't spell them out, but things are looking much better (I promise!).

Quick ingame sc (progress) below...

SimFIA would be proud to host these files. (I've got 1.5TB, and I'm only using a 1024th of that.) Shoot me a PM, and I'll give you a FTP username and password.
Dygear- sounds cool. I thought I'd just mention it here (also sending a PM), but when the new Aston update is finished I'll put all of the tracks I have so far into one big zip- which will make it easier to host. There will also be a seperate Aston zip of course.

Thanks for that
Nice offer, Dygear. I have been hassling Kar for ages to get the files available in one large download. Thanks.
Not an issue guys, I have tons of bandwidth. Just glad I could help the community in one small way.

Unseen, I love your High res FOX stuff. I would be more then happy to give you some space as well. Just shoot me a PM.
