Great thing that you got it to work, cars are indeed not easy and it takes lot of practise to finish stages, but it is really fun, say farewell to your freetime
That Lada mod any good? I guess it includes no breaktrough regarding RWD physics... I've tested few other RWD car mods and they're funny at first, you can make cool slides but it's just weird because the RWD simply does not really work in RBR
Well, it is bit hard to say as in general I feel that RBR physics leave lot to improve, there seem to be loads of inertia in tires/driveshafts etc. something like 100 times too much, that is however probelm with other cars too. It spins rear tires, it kicks tail out and you can somehow control slide with throttle, but there are times car does things like I wish and times when car does something really odd.
It feels like corner entry and exit would have different physics and yet again straigth would have own physics again. Also it seems to be that after wheel is turned above certain amount slide mode activates.
It is not easy to maintain slides, it is not any silly drift car, it spins out very easily if you are not careful with throttle, also it cab bog down and soon one finds a tree if that happens.
But then again, there is similar things with default cars too.
It sure is fun and you sure have to know what you are doing, but is it realistic, no, it is not, but also I think default cars are not most realistic either, sure fun, challenging and giving you very good illusion of rallying, but not realistic or should I say simulated.
However I do recommend you to try that car, I believe that you can get one from BH motorsports site, it replaces MG car and there is good instructions for installing it.
This thread inspired me to reinstall the game, which I love, but God damn if it's not crashing like a bastard every five seconds. Very strange as it's almost the exact same PC I was running it on before and it ran like a dream. Well, I guess some PC sleuthing is in order.
I finally got around to trying out the demo... I wish I had tried it a long long time ago, this is great. Now I just need to find myself a copy of this somewhere so I can get goin on some sweet tarmac stages
Staying on the road in RBR can be a challenge, my two tips are:
1) Be in control of the car, complete the rally school, and use both your feet all the time, ideally you'll never not be pressing a pedal once you understand how to control the car you'll end up being able to make it adopt any stance you fancy and understeer should never be an issue, although if you don't know how to control the car you'll just sit there understeering into everything. To full control the car you have to let it slide and do what it wants to an extent don't try and fight it all the time.
2) Be relaxed about driving, don't tense up but always concentrate and never relax too much. Pay attention, especially in the straights they're the easiest place to have a biggie IMO as you tend to treat it like a race track straight, but most race tracks aren't barely a car wide and covered in ruts and potholes that can easily flip the car or jumps or are tree lined...
I would imagine steering lock is very low, they are undrivable if the power steering packs up and they have to use lots of lock very often my guess is not much more than your typical single seater, maybe 540 tops.
I'm afraid the tarmac is pretty bad, the guy who developed RBR and is now working on Drivers Republic said the tarmac physics were the weakest part of RBR.
