Quote from =C.R= Boomshanka :well i dina wana spend out to much money but i just got me crimbo pay so its vvv tempting to go buy a whloe new pc

ok its gotta run crysis on x10

so id need sli or crossfire i prefer crossfire
at least 4gb of ram space on mobo
AM3 mabe
intel quad more likely 775lga
huge power supply
the mobo needs a onborad diog or D bracket
sata
usb 2.0 /2.5
nf 7 min
ati chipset prefer

you are probably going to want those new 7--i SLI Intel boards coming out, by the way, most boards i know over like, £20 support 8Gb of RAM.

Ask Jakg, he will point you to the right direction
thanks m8

ps.. hows the RAC-RESCUE goin ?

were all in the [NPC] Cruise servers now as they hold race events its a bit more fun

Quote from harjun :you are probably going to want those new 7--i SLI Intel boards coming out

Erm there's no point because there going to cost close to the £200 mark for a good one when you can have a P35 board for the same results and cost alot cheaper.
Erm. do you actually know what your on about?

Why do you NEED SLi? "onborad diog"? "d bracket"?

SATA will be on any mobo, as will USB2 (wtf is 2.5...?!)

nf 7...?!

ATi chipsets are crap, really really steer clear. I don't think you can get a decent mobo with one anyway.
If your after a new backbone system and have a spare £1600 on yourself go for this system then.

EDIT: the ram was meant to be 2 2x1GB

whoa, that machine is a beast, 8Gb of RAM 8800GT in SLI, but, i would rather get 2 8800 GTXs in SLI, instead of that CPU Cooler, a Thermalright Ultra 120

but, its alright.

Boomshank RAC is fine, also at NPC, i only got UF1 , also, no way i will leave LTC, i donated £20 to them
awww wow good man donations are good

Nothing like the good will of an anonymous donation.

nope, i asked Krammeh if i could donate to him
My turn to seek knowledge from the ones who know

After working a heck of a lot of overtime during the xmas period I feel I can afford to splash out a bit on building myself a new comp. My current one is starting to feel its age, stuck in the AMD socket A days and just can't quite keep a steady frame rate in LFS.

I attach/link to the items I've picked out but to be quite frank I'm totally out of touch these days. I'm on a budget but willing to spend a little extra if there is a decent performance gain to be had of it.

Doesn't have to be from eBuyer, just used them to make it easier.

The things I'm not sure about are the RAM and HDD. On the RAM I was a bit confused on the specs i.e 4200, 6400 (wasn't sure which was better). The HDD is more a case of wording, looking at the motherboard it doesn't say anything about SATA 2 which had me slightly concerned.

Any help/advice what so ever would be greatly appreciate

An 8600GT isn't powerful enough to be likely to ever run in DX10. For that reason a high end 7800+ for the same or less second hand would be a better buy, or for the same performance at a third of the price a 7600GT.

As for SATA2 I was a bit confused as well but what I now understand is that any modern motherboard will have SATA2 (which are physically the same) and a SATA2 drive is backwards compatable anyway so the only distiction to worry about is SATA and IDE.
Looks pretty good, but I *think that might be a bit high price for the 8600gt. The 8800gt 256mb would be worlds better if you could go that route. I mean litereally like 2-4 times as powerfull as that 8600.

RAM -> You should look for some DDR2-800 which is PC2-6400. Jakg might recommend some RAM for you, but that looks good.

Your Mobo should be fine for SATA 2/3.

Are you planning to OC? If so you should be able to hit 3.0+ GHz very easily and safely.
P5B's are INSANELY overpriced on eBuyer. Spend the extra £11 on an Asus P5K.

If you give me a budget, and say if you will or wont be overclocking, if you need RAID etc i'll see what i can russle up.

Not really planning on overclocking, don't know a huge amount about it. Don't want to do a Harjun

Around the £650 mark (inc. the monitor), can go a bit over if needed. I doubt I'll be overclocking it and I don't think I'll need RAID.

Cheers guys!

Spend as much cash as you can on the graphics card, I'd allocate around £150 to £200 for that alone.

Updated with suggested Mobo and graphics card. £91 more which I can probably stretch to (pay day today!!! ). Any other suggestions/advice? Have I got everything there that I need, will only be using my speakers, mouse & keyboard from current machine.

Also is the 64bit version of Vista okay? I remember reading a lot about driver problems a while back...

Cheers

Maybe a more powerful power supply? 500W seems to cut it a bit close.
What sort of power of a power supply should I be looking at? Also what brands should I trust/avoid.

Keiran
A Corsair 500w or OCZ StealthXStream 600w would run that system fine, i'd go for the OCZ as they're about the same price.
Thanks Jakg. Updated attachement with 600w power supply and different memory as for some reason the memory shot up £10 in price...

Anyone got any other suggestions or is that probably the best I'm going to get for my money?

Cheers

Looks like a good system to me, are you planning to overclock the CPU at all? Thats the only thing that holds it back at the moment. An E6XXX series CPU would improve your performance in games quite a lot I think, unless your going to overclock that one.

If you are going to overclock that one, i strongly suggest getting an aftermarket CPU cooler. The Intel standard one's are a load of pap.
Looking at prices the cheapest E6xxx seems to be about £115, which is a bit too much over what I want to spend at the moment.

No plans to overclock but I might read up on the ins and outs of overclocking and experiment later down the lines
£115 gets you a 2.66 GHz 4 MB Cache E6750.

£75 gets you a 2.2 GHz 2 MB Cache with the E4500.

£50 gets you 2 GHz 1 MB Cache with the E2180.

I'd go for the E2180 and with the £25 you save get some other different parts...

http://www.scan.co.uk/Products ... o.asp?WebProductID=661326 - Gigabte P35-DS3L, wont overclock as well as the P5K, but it has the same features. If you don't plan on doing overclocking just yet, and if you do not by that much (ie not wanting to go for 2.8 GHz or over) then that will be fine, and at £58 you've saved another £10.

I'd spend an extra fiver on this GFX card, too - http://www.scan.co.uk/Products ... o.asp?WebProductID=692062.

That means overall you've saved £30. So why not get a better monitor? http://www.ebuyer.com/product/130842

Puts your PC £20 above the one you've got but imo it's worth it.

Sorry i can't link to eBuyer, they don't seem to sell this stuff.
