Quote from Albieg :I quit when my brother realised he had been an idiot who couldn't make it.

Ouch.

Brings to mind that back when it was first catching on I had noticed that the biggest percentage of "Go <Diamond>!!!" stickers were on the back of Alfa Romeo cars around here. I guess some sort of psychological profile called for its existence in that combination.

By the way:

Go <Diamond>!!!
Dunno really, but it could be true since Alfa Romeo drivers are sometimes known in Italy as perfect idiots who think they own the road.

I loved the self-serving motivational questions and answers, though.

- How many people really make some money in Amway?
- 100% of people who don't quit.

Man, I can crack some bad joke too, but not this bad...
Quote from xaotik :Some fun I had was working with a jehovah witness. Every once in a while we'd find a leaflet or one of those newspapers/magazines they got just "casually" lying on a desk. She even gave me a boxed set of cassettes with devotional music which I remixed sometime later with the material off of a boxed set of promotional Amway cassettes some other associate had given to me - quite the group now that I think of it. If you want a scary cult I'd say look at Amway - top of the chart on consumer cults/religions/whatever.

Did you include other species like pig or monkeys in you statistics
Quote from Maelstrom :Did you include other species like pig or monkeys in you statistics

Sorry, Amway is only for primates. No literal pigs.

It is okay to bash scientology because it is not a religion, it is a business. Its sole purpose is to make money and power like any other business.
Quote from Stregone :It is okay to bash scientology because it is not a religion, it is a business. Its sole purpose is to make money and power like any other business.

Indeed, quite unlike an organized religion.
If people want an "unbiased" view on scientology then South Park ( best & most intelligent programme ever ( again, only my opinion ) ) have done 3.
Trapped in the closet includes a totally honest ( You need to pay alot of money to the "church" to learn this ) description of the views of Scientology.

Seriously guy's, the best way to beat people is through free speech and allowing open discussion.
Let people make their own decision's with all the information, after all, what is " right " ?

South Park Scientology Episodes

The are all the episodes of South Park that had something to do with the Church of Scientology.

South Park Scientology Episode, "Trapped in the closet"

About this South Park episode:
"Trapped in the Closet", the twelfth episode of the ninth season of the Comedy Central series South Park, originally aired on November 16, 2005. The plot of the episode centers on the South Park character Stan Marsh, as he joins Scientology in an attempt to find something "fun and free". After the discovery of his surprisingly high "thetan levels", he is recognized as the reincarnation of the founder of the church, L. Ron Hubbard. Episode makes almost 100 references to Tom Cruise being "In the closet".

South Park Scientology Episode, "Chef returns to South Park"

About this South Park episode:
"The Return of Chef", or referred to as "Life Without Chef Part 2", is episode 140 of Comedy Central's animated series South Park and aired on March 22, 2006. It was advertised as the tenth season premiere. It was also #1 on the "10 South Parks That Changed The World" list.
The episode parodies so-called "very special episodes", heavily satirizes Scientology, and is notable for its timing after the sudden departure of Isaac Hayes, who had voiced Chef on the series since its inception. His leaving South Park was because of the highly controversial Scientology episode, "Trapped in the Closet".

South Park Scientology episode, "The Church of Blainetology"

About this South Park episode:
A street magician named David Blaine comes to South Park. The boys are tricked into becoming "Blaintologists". Stan is creeped out and soon leaves; Kyle refuses to join him. Stan looks for help from South Park's own resident messiah, Jesus. The comparisons to Scientology are really interesting. It shows everything from disconnection to brainwashing.
Environmentalism's a religion, Becky? I'm certainly all for looking after our one & only planet and trying not to fill it up with shit, but I'm buggered if I can remember seeing anyone I know worshipping a tree in the last 20 or so years. I presume you were being hyperbolically Clarksonesque As always, with any group, it's the extremists who ruin it for the "normals" among us - don't listen to the dreadlocked, taupe-clad stinky hippies who chain themselves to walruses to protest Robbie Williams' continuing musical career. Listen to the calm, collected ones who try and accomplish realistically green goals in a reasonable, logical manner

As for the Scio cult, it's as much a church as my local pub is. Both are out to make as much profit as possible by clouding as many minds as possible. One crucial difference is that the barman doesn't try and make your life miserable if you switch to another pub, or if you tell everyone else his secrets - like if he waters down the scotch, for example. Oh, and the pub doesn't get tax exemptions just because a lot of people worship the place on the weekend
Quote from Hankstar :I presume you were being hyperbolically Clarksonesque.

I didn't know Becky was into Clarksonianism. Isn't that a cult, too? I mean, worshiping a guy named J.C. who is part of a Trinity. A bit of Buddhism thrown in, always talking about a "Great Vehicle"... Got to be a cult.
Quote :don't listen to the dreadlocked, taupe-clad stinky hippies who chain themselves to walruses to protest Robbie Williams' continuing musical career.

Hey man, stopping Williams' music is vitally important for saving our planet.
Clarksonianismness is the official religion of United Kingdom car lovers. There are some a-Clarksonists and apostates but their cars are persecuted ruthlessly - honour-dentings are quite common in some parts of Britain.

That's true about Robbie Williams, but those grubby little bastards should leave the poor walruses out of it. They have enough to worry about, what with being confused with Bucket Seal all the time.
I reckon its just a joke i mean come on whos stupid enough to believe half the crap thats being said DC9's Volcanos if you can think for yourself you could possibly tell that its a bunch of crap.
Quote from Stregone :It is okay to bash scientology because it is not a religion, it is a business. Its sole purpose is to make money and power like any other business.

Same as Christianity really

Anyway, South Park rules, they are all knowing and all powerful, thats why I send them money for their propaganda DVD's and worship their writing skills.
Quote from ATC Quicksilver :Same as Christianity really

.

its very different dude, what he said its that scientology you need to give money to the church .. and in the other hand you may give, but youre not forced to do it

There are people who take things too far, like encouraging insects and small creatures to thrive in their dreadlocks, because hair is part of the eco-system too, or maybe they're taking the power back from the all-mighty soap companies or something. There are people who feel that they can communicate with trees or tree spirits, or think that they only need air to survive (no food- breatharians, I've met one, it was pretty scary). These are extremes, but I agree that mainstream environmentalism is really more about giving a damn. Of course, the extreme viewpoints would probably say that the mainstream ideals don't go far enough, or are too apathetic or low intentioned in their goals, and sometimes I agree- but there's plenty of wackiness in the extremes too, and I don't venture there.

You could maybe call Environmentalism a religion if you lived completely within a pure environmentalist ideology, but most people just take bits and pieces from here and there and get on with their lives in other ways. A bit like having a buddah statue in your garden or loungeroom, you wouldn't call that person a buddhist unless they had a shaved head and only ate bland foods and didn't have a girlfriend/boyfriend.

Ignore that collection plate, and the hundreds of religious channels telling you if you want the devil out of your life you must send a blank check to them. Both the same, they brainwash people into believing something, then scare them into paying, or make them feel guilty then make them pay to get rid of the guilt. Perhaps Scientology is seen as a threat, and its the Vatican trying to get rid of them. I mean their story is cooler than the Bible, so it might take off, they don't even molest children and the only people they con out of lots of money are stupid celebs nobody likes. I am sure if a video of a Priest touching a little boy got onto youtube it would be removed pretty damn quickly...there must be thousands of videos like that out there.

Basically I think this Anon group are attention seeking geeks, and their reasons for doing this are greed and fame...like Tom Cruise really.
oh environmentalism is a religion because it is a new form of control, we Westerners are starting not to believe in the old gods so we need a new faith and they came up with global warming.

Nay saying and fear mongering are two vital ingredients of a religion, so be a good environmentalist and don't buy a 4x4 incase you break the planet.

I could go on, but basically I think environmentalism is growing on us in a 'reasonable' way just like Christianity did centuries ago.

As for Scientology being different to a religion because it is wealth focused, brainwashes people, and is prepared to go to extreme of lengths to protect itself...

Church of England is the largest landowner in Britain, practices the baptism of infants, and don't get me started on religious wars...

I could go on...
I was a big fan of LRH. Well his Sci-Fi, not none of that self-help nonsense or the goofy "religion". Anyways, about 15 years ago, I seen an ad for this personality test that the scientologists do. Stupid me, I took the damn "test". THose nut cases still send me crap in the mail to this day... What is really scary about this is, I didn't give them my address and I damn sure didn't when we moved. The VERY FIRST day we moved into our house, a letter arrived. it was from them.

yeah, I liked Battlefield Earth and I think the Mission Earth series was my favorite Sci-fi series period, but that religion and the stupid dianetics book, I can do without.

And actually L.Ron Hubbard was quite a character. but you won't here about any of his exploits from the Scientologists.
To be honest, for me people can say what they like and believe what they like as long

1. They don't try and make me believe what they believe. I have a mind of my own and will believe what I want.

2. Sue your ass off for saying one bad thing against them.

Scientology to me seems crazy and stupid but if anyone wants to believe in it then fine, as long as reasons 1 and 2 don't come in to it.
Quote from Becky Rose :oh environmentalism is a religion because it is a new form of control, we Westerners are starting not to believe in the old gods so we need a new faith and they came up with global warming.

Probably you don't understand the philosophical basis of environmentalism, which is perfectly scientific and devoid of axiomatic content requiring blind belief. Environmentalism, long before being a generic word describing the attitude of people concerned about the health of the environment, is an anthropic geography current inspired by positivism and particularly neo-positivism, stripping away the logic that originated national socialism through some manipulations.

Environmentalism, in its philosophical essence, tells us that man determines the environment and that the environment determines man. It's absurd to define such philosophical idea as a religion since its basis is scientific observation.

^^^^Hahaha

Something makes me think they are hiding something, the way they just talked over the top of the interviewer in one of the videos, the interviewer gave them some valid points and they just ignored him, so I think they are in denial.

I second that. Free will. I dont care as long as they keep it on their side.

But if you try to have a conversation about the topic (you know, not bashing it or anything, but a polite conversation) its really irritating when they say:"..but you have to look at the facts.." It just proves the point that they just want to be a part of something and blindly believe everything they are told to. sad really.
environmentalism is scientific fact based on observation? I think you need to use shorter words so you don't confuse yourself

It is believed the earth has five temperature states and were in the middle one, it is known we are heading for a warmer climate and it is believed that the earth has done this before.

What the jury is still out on is weather the reason for this is man made. There are scientists on both sides of that debate.
